    this is the course

    http://www.gre.ac.uk/courses/ug/mmd/games-technology

(many universities have updated their web sites)

    subjects

    Year 1

    • Computer Programming 1
    • Multimedia Games Design & Development 1
    • Communication Systems 1
    • Computer Systems Architectures 1
    • Discrete Mathematics & Combinatorics 1
    Year 2

    • Multimedia Games Design & Development 2
    • Advanced Programming 2
    • Computer Programming 2
    • Embedded Systems Programming
    • Operating Systems
    • Linear Algebra

    Year Three

    • A substantial individual project based around developing a new multimedia game
    • Multimedia Games Design & Development 3
    • 3D Computer Graphics
    • Options from a range including:
      • Artificial Intelligence
      • 3D Interactive Environments
      • Distributed Applications Development

It looks like a normal computing degree that is offered by many universities. I was first  because gaming has very limited career opportunities but looking at the degree they are doing other computer subjects. Greenwich became a university in 1992. It was polytechnic (higher education, further education institute) since the 1800's. In 1992 many polytechnics became universities. Because of this the number of universities in London has increased.

So the brother is living near the university ? thats good

£1000 discount is given to over 40 nationalities including Sri Lankans

    Greenwich is a average university

Guardian ranks Greenwich at 70 for computing

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/table/2010/jun/04/university-guide-computer-sciences-and-it

Its not Oxford but Oxford has no gaming degree

Oxford only offers a computer science degree

    some of the new rules

Government wants to cancel the 2 year PSW visa (post study worker)

Students should only be allowed to work on
campus during the week and for any external
employer at weekends and during vacation
    periods

Where a course includes a work placement,
raise the minimum ratio of study to work
placement from 50:50 to 66:33 so that these
types of courses become less attractive to people
using them as a way to gain access to the UK
    employment market.

Remove permission to work for all dependents of
    Tier 4 students.

Only those Tier 4 students studying for more
than 12 months to be allowed to bring their
    dependents to the UK.

its good degree if you want to do gaming

gaming has very limited career opportunities, because the degree has broader subjects its ok

in Sri Lanka most of the jobs available are software related

there is no gaming industry in SL as far as i know

the bottom line is if you really want to do gaming go for it but you need to prepare yourself to work in a non gaming environment
