Gotta tell u all, what agents paint is not the real picture, they get their commission for the amount of ppl they can pick and they will do anything to collect it. All this drama sounds like a plot to cheat innocent students who just have high hopes of a bright future. Man don't ruin them, this would land u in hell. "underground stuff" my arse.
I'm currently living in china and to tell u the situation if anyone is gonna come here.
No 1: u can't do part time jobs legally, u'r student visa doesn't allow it and u'r toast if u get sniffed by the authorities.
No 2: get a grasp on the language. that is a must else u'r done for again. these ppl are very poor in english and unless u can talk in chinese u can't get a thing done.
No 3: research the facts u'r self, don't believe the agents. ask from ppl who actually lived in those places. the education standard of the uni is limited by the english skills of the teachers (it is quite poor, some fellows can't even express themselves). and that is true for all non english countries.
I've got contacts with a lots of ppl in china and other ppl who live abroad, ppl who got cheated too. I know stuff about what happen to ppl who goes to UK, not a heaven at all. And there was a friend who told me his experiences, said the "uni/college" he went in the uk was entirely run by the "agent"!! and had no relationship to the established educational institutes in the UK. Was a scam, accommodations substandard. "teachers" useless too. he said he quit out of that place and now is doing odd jobs just to survive. They went to study, but ended up in the roads. Remember this will be the real situation unless u have a clear path for u'rself. Research u'r stuff and don't believe the agents. Hell lot better if u can do all the applying process u'rself, that way u can save a lots of extra charges and have peace of mind when u finally reach there..
