Sept 02, Colombo: The World Bank has offered a financial aid package of 900 million US Dollars for the development process of Sri Lanka's Eastern Province for the next five years.
Vice President of the World Bank's South Asian Region Isabel Guerrero pledged this support at a special meeting with the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa this morning.
Following the liberation of the Northern Province World bank will be ready to grant financial aid to develop that area, Ms. Guerrero said.
If the Sri Lankan Government collaborates with the private sector in future the positive results could be expected, she added.
Rajapaksa government liberated the Eastern region in July 2007 and held provincial council elections in May 2008. The government allocated Rs. 2 billion for the development of infrastructure and de-mining operations in the Eastern Province in April 2008.
