As I know, SM 5 will be backward compatible to DX10, means you can still use SM 4

Whether you can convert from a SM 4 VGA to SM 5 VGA.. the answer is NO!

shader model isn't depend on only software isn't it ? so converting thing is not possible.
but SM 5 games would work on SM 4 cards AFAIK. Its upto the game. If they restrict SM 4 cards, sorry.org

You can play SM5 compatible games on SM4 VGAs using SM4.. its backward compatible AFAIK!

If you want to play using SM 5.. buy SM5 VGA!

Pixel Shades are in the VGA it self and u cant update it.
So if ur current Card has SM5 u can play SM4 games no problem, but if ur Card has SM4 I don't think that u will be able to play the games which require SM5

Try to wait 4 nvidia dx 11 cards.

if not I will go 4 powercolor 5770 or 5870.because powercolor is the best ATI brand 4 me.
