On ITN there was an interview with Gothabaya.....
It was like the days of old..when the war was making blood hot and heart started thumping faster when they talk of the greatest war of all time..............
Today,..The same surroundings,..same clothes he was wearing...same words he was repeating and same topics.... but something was seriously lacking...............................
In those days there was confidence in his voice..
He was enthusiastic...
He didn't need to search for words... there was continuity and flow...
and convincing (even though I did not believe a word) .....................
But today he was faltering.... Waverly.....
No continuity and flow is broken... sounds tired... unconvincing...
I really felt sympathetic, reluctantly......
Though they still try to continue with the emotions that they aroused, those emotions are not eternal...
One's lust for power may be eternal...but people's emotions are not ...........................
War is over... at least for people..........
It may be too early for Govt....
People who were electrified with war celebrated the victories few times, and the electricity was spent.
Now it is a stale topic like New year and Wesak just ended..............
Look at the interest in war among Elakiri members...
Where are the half page signatures glorifying war...
and members who were ready to kill if one says a word against war.
Compare the lukewarm responses to war topics now with those days...
Fire is gone.. for some even without ashes.
Even to this thread... I am sure very few would reply if there would be any....
People accepted war because they were told that it is better than terrorism...
They followed blinded with faith in Mahinda and the clan and saw the end of the war with the same blind faith......
They are convinced that it was won....
No verbal arguments would convince that war is still there.....
The emotions which were based on suffering of 30 years are gone... forever.........
Ok... If LTTE comes back and blow few bombs..
What would happen...
The first thing Mahinda the hero will be crippled...
the image he cultivated would be cracked.....
and people would fall back to their old belief that 'LTTE is invincible'.....
If it can comes back once, it can comeback again and again...........
By trying to gain political victories continuously based on war efforts,
Govt lost the shine they had with war......
Even now it is too late to end war......
All the drama is gone...
and it looks so melodramatic like a poorly written and dragged Teledrama....
Now, trying to build up emotions is like an elephant's struggle to come out of mud....
more it struggles it sinks deeper...
Soon people would hate to hear the word war....
They would again start blaming the war for their difficulties....
I think people belong to opposition parties would start that trend if they don't do so already
.....................
The Gotabaya interview in the morning must have inspired many to change the channel or put the TV off....
The people who directly gain by the Govt' rule
would have continued listening to the interview planning their future....
I think they never really listened to them... Only expected others to listen.
Their interests are different...
They will remain faithful, but they too don't have the confidence they had.
Don't look out side for proof... Look inside Elakiri...
If I posted a thread like this in Elakiri I could have been ripped off into shreds.
I am sure that this thread will die without any problem like the topic WAR.....
Hope there is someone who can read this in full and reply.
