Do not worry that much. Even if Ranil/CBK makes a speech in front of a group of native English speakers, none of them would understand clearly what he/she says...... This is because of the high accent south asian people have.... But there are/have been some good speakers in Sri Lanka also. For example, Late Laxman Kadirgarmer was one of them. His style of speaking was near native. So he did not have any problem in communicating his ideas exactly to the point.....

I think that MR's decision to make his speech at UN in sinhala also was a good thought. Why in the world, the President of a small island wants to speak in English, when BIG world leaders speak in their own languages..... The purpose is to communicate..:cool:

Also, even at this particular occasion (LA), had he got hold of a translator instead of making the speech by himself, it would have been more effective........................
