well im already into opensource. i use ubuntu. but i hav one problem there that makes me come onto windows.

my ADSL router/modem. its a prolink h9000. it doesnt have linux drivers for it. i can use Ethernet but i need it for da other machine so i have to use da USB. da scene is i cant get it to work. can i tell me how i can get this to work so that i can completely shift over to linux. dats da only headache i have fr nw!

if there is no industrial drivers.. we can make our own or configure.. linux ..Give me some tym couz i don't have the exact hardware but i can find... If I could find that modem I'll tell you the exact thnig

easiest method is config a wvdial.conf file and make a rule at etc/udev/rules.d...

But I can't exactly say it.. with out checking ,,, I'll let you know

    There is no 2.5 kernel. There's the old kernel which is 2.4 and the new kernel 2.6.

    Lenny is on 2.6. My kernel version is : 2.6.26-1-amd64

    If your modem is recognized now the thing is simple. Now you have to do is set the wvdail dial up script.

    I do not know exactly, that this would be work with your modem, but this is the way for set the dialer...

    you have to edit the /etc/wvdial.conf

    following is a sample .. But I don't know exactly. First have a back up of the file. and then edit....k

    first type Cd /etc
    then sudu vi wvdial.conf

    and type this
    [Dailer ptcl]
    Modem = /dev/ttyUSB0
    Baud = 230400
    Phone = #777
    lnit1 = ATZ
    Stupid Mode = 1
    Dial Command = ATDT
    Username =
    (your user name)
    Password =
    (your PAssword)
    PPPD Options = crtcts multilink usepeerdns lock defaultroute

    Now its ok.. then when you wanna connect, just type wvdial ptcl

    This is the way for a Dial up.. I don't know exactly this would be work with ADSL, or with your modem..But Its worth trying neda??

    If you do it successfully but if its disconnecting..You have to set the nameservers also. You can see the name server IPs when wvdail trying to connect to ISP.

    Put those name servers in
    /ect/reslov.conf....

    SO try it... and any one knows about this plaese share your knowladge with us. Most of us got these kind of trubles every day, It would be grate if you can..
