Ubuntu 9 didnt go well on my one stucked up because of my ATI video card
mann was so hard to configure it but never worked!! m gona dl fedora 11
is that good? i mean good for a ubuntu user?

fedora follows the RedHat architecture so there are some differences from the Debian based architecture (Ubuntu is based on Debian). The changes are in the CLI as both have a set of commands unique to that Distro. Also some file structures are different so some files are that are in one folder in Redhat, are in another folder in Debian ( Ubuntu).
Also the package management is completely different. Debian (Ubuntu) uses apt package manger and .deb files while Fedora uses yum package manager and .rpm files

On the GUI side, the differences are only the cosmetic stuff like colors and themes since both uses the same desktop managers (Gnome, KDE, XFCE4,etc)

Oh, the ATI problems you had with Ubuntu are likely to be there with Fedora as well. So I doubt there'll much difference there.

RAID on Linux installed SCSI

Im planing to setup Mirror/RAID1 with per-installed Linux hard drive.

I have two same type same capacity SCSI driver. In 1st HDD i have installed Linux in LVG . Now I want to mirrored this volume with 2nd HDD with formatting or changing anything in 1st HDD.


Can any one tell me is this possible ?

If it is please explain how to do that.

possible. After adding the new HDD, from the lvm manager, you can select the new drive and go for RAID1. It'll format and mirror the new drive.

BTW 9.1 is available in beta form. If you got 9.04, you can do a distro upgrade to 9.1

hmm gotta look at the release notes if they say that the xserver problem with video cards is fixed then i'll do that..
I hate to use ubuntu with out emerald and compiz !!

well since this is an ATI card, are you using the restricted drivers for ATI ? or only VESA or FBDEV ?

I tried with LVM. But it's require 3 physical volume. But I have one HDD. So how to do mirroring by LVM? Please explain with step by step if you can.

3 volumes is for RAID 5.

net works perfectly
i have a router i just tryied to install the drivers that are recommended by ubuntu u know that things that pops out sayin u have new driver releases from ATi and can be downloaded
it worked for 8.04LTS not for 9

Get the Driver from here :
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownlo...spx?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.2&lang=English

Before running that, install kernel headers. From a Terminal run :
sudo apt-ger install linux-headers-generic

then run the downloaded ATI driver file :
sudo sh fullname_of_ATI_driver.run

That'll install the ATI drivers.
