Try the GQView image viewer package on Ubuntu.

it comes as a tgz archive.

The archive usually will have a README and a INSTALL file. READ both!

hey. i am new to ubuntu. so in terminal i have to type sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx-180 and enter? thats all?

correct.
It'll ask for you password. type it in (it wont display anything on the screen when you type the password) and press enter.
It'll download and install the nvidia drivers.

OK another problem
! Installed amarok on gnome but nothings playing!! the interface loads up other stuff is working but not the player and hey dont the new amarok have an eq??

you do have the MP3 codecs installed right ?
By default, MP3 codecs are not installed out of the box on Ubuntu due to licensing of the MP3 codecs.
hmm.. now that you mentioned it. there doesnt seem to be an EQ for amarok..

AFAIK, amarok doesnt use the gstreamer backend.
Amarok uses the kdemultimedia-kio-plugins and LAME mp3 codec.
Install the LAME mp3 codec :
apt-get install lame

now lets see all the wisecracks on the codec name.

i'll give a try, but i installed amarok because i thought it had an eq !!
gimme a player that has an eq not xmms, its old keepin it as a last resort.
