Well, you gotta love its stability. Great distro for servers. I run all my servers on Debian.dineitdark said:grate! haha performance loving ha? i like XFCE too... though i don't use it that much.. heard that a new debian leader is gonna be elected...
coooool... way to go machan! haha i not much into that stuff too.. but its intresting how these OS projects are managed...The_Ace said:Well, you gotta love its stability. Great distro for servers. I run all my servers on Debian.
XFCE...You learn to like it over time. Actually the main reason for XFCE was that KDE was just too big to DL (300+ mb). XFCE with most of the addons waas only 10 mb.
Since I did complete net install, XFCE was the best choice for me.
Dont know that much about the Debian management side as I'm really not that interested in who's leading what. I'm more interested in its usage and packages.

ah! so its an application for gnome..dineitdark said:no ubuntu is having compzi pre installed... and it is runing on top of gnome when u enable "Desktop features" or something like that... from the menu..
and yes u can just install beryl or compzi and get the effects but it is a bit risky... but anyways its fun!
dineitdark said:i wish i had some servers at home![]()
its like a window manager that runs on top of other window managers... im not clear on this. google compzi and beryl... they look so good man... damn amazing...The_Ace said:ah! so its an application for gnome..
One problem with Ubuntu is that you cannot easilyupgrade it's oses without breaking the system. That is to say if you run Edgy, Upgrading to Feisty by downloading the new kernel wont work. This was disscussed in the Debian user list reasently (Debian being the base system Ubuntu is built on).
mani i know... but i dont have enough cash to buy anything anymore... hehe.. i can't ask ma parent for everything cause i have asked so much!!!The_Ace said:Quite easy dude. Get a second hand PII machine and install Debian Sarge ( or any linux distro without X ).
Or use a Virtual PC for it . Vmware comes to mind.
hehe.. but after aprial im gonna do a little job and then i'll buy some P3s and setup a server farm in ma bed room!!! haha...

Well no need to buy a separate PC then. Just install VMware and create a virtual server.dineitdark said:mani i know... but i dont have enough cash to buy anything anymore... hehe.. i can't ask ma parent for everything cause i have asked so much!!!hehe.. but after aprial im gonna do a little job and then i'll buy some P3s and setup a server farm in ma bed room!!! haha...

There are some huge ammount of games there.
i added some of the screen shots too.
ill put you guys the link to download it. there are seperate files for Suse, and for ubuntu and for any other distro too, and you have the binary file too.

i can keep my lap on 24/7... but ma mom doesn't like that cause the electricity bill goes too high... hehe.. but i still keep it onThe_Ace said:Well no need to buy a separate PC then. Just install VMware and create a virtual server.
Or simply install the server software on your existing linux distro. Almost any linux distro can be used as a server.
im running apache(im having ma own forum and stuff here! hehe.. thanks to OS..), sshd.. on it... but the thing is the lap is always busy with torrents... and when some torrent download or upload is in progress my router is ultra busy.. and slow to respond... so http requests that comes to ma web server gets dropped and stuff... i feel that the router is not capable enough!
????thanks for this buddy!djmlog103 said:did you guys remember that i started this post by saying about how im using Wine to run games, Well guess what, ive got the new Cedega!! this is the improved version of WineX and its sooooooooooooooooooooo coooooooooooooooooool, i can run a lot of games here, and Install them too. running setup from the CD is not a problem in here, The game Database it has tells you what games does it supports, and to tell you what. A laptop doesnt take much power. Running one 24/7 will give you other problems as Laptops are not designed to run 24/7.dineitdark said:i can keep my lap on 24/7... but ma mom doesn't like that cause the electricity bill goes too high...
This is not because the router is incapable. Its because you dont have enough bandwith left for your web site!hehe.. but i still keep it onim running apache(im having ma own forum and stuff here! hehe.. thanks to OS..), sshd.. on it... but the thing is the lap is always busy with torrents... and when some torrent download or upload is in progress my router is ultra busy.. and slow to respond... so http requests that comes to ma web server gets dropped and stuff... i feel that the router is not capable enough!
????
Not if the guest os doesnt use much resources.hmmm... i wanna play with VMware yes... but if i emulate two machines.. it will drastically reduce my lap's performance ??? will it???
there is another desktop that i can 24 hours.. i don't run it cause it needs a lot of power, and the lap is the only thing that i can run 24 hors... and as you said its risky...The_Ace said:A laptop doesnt take much power. Not if the guest os doesnt use much resources.
IF you try to run windows 2k or higher, you WILL need lots of memory and HD space but if you install another linux ver without X as your guest os, you wont see any performance drop in the host.

Install linux on the desktop and run it without the monitor. That'll drop the power usage.dineitdark said:there is another desktop that i can 24 hours.. i don't run it cause it needs a lot of power, and the lap is the only thing that i can run 24 hors... and as you said its risky...![]()
Cant say aything without know what kind of setup you got there. From what you say, I suppose you have a Single public IP setup, maybe ADSL ? and your router is NATing your PC & Laptop to access the web and its also doing a port forwarding to allow the web to access your web server ?hehe... its not only the bandwidth, sometimes when i try to access the web server using the globle IP, the router replies with a bad URL message! this does not happen all the time... only sometimes... the router is confusing http requests to the web server as requests to it self(it have a web server as well...)...
so its not bandwidth is it?
The nagging mother doesnt actualy care about the power consumptionAnusha said:PC don't consume that much power as you think.
