I see more and more people posting threads about how to use IMEI to find your phones manufacturing factory. But truth is you cant find it !

No company like to degrade their name by releasing low quality products under same name, from another factory. Especially not a well established company like Nokia.

IMEI system changed in 2004, after that there is no indication of where the phone was made.

Also all Nokia manufacturing factories, may it be Finland or China have there standards. So there wont be difference in quality.

Most of the time accessory package and box design are the only change.

Usually for other electronic equipment, they apply special coatings on circuits to withstand humidy in countries like sri lanka. So getting a unit made for our market (usually coming from asian countries) can be better. But as phones used while travelling to countries, all phones might have these coatings.

But anyway main reason that phones are made in different parts of the globe is to reduce shipping cost.

I can also remember some minor fault in Nokia N95's of some batch of Finland plant. So chinese and other plants didnt have this problem. In that case it was good if you didnt have Finland made one.

So anyway its better if you can post information that you are sure to be TRUE.

Im glad that u try to help others by putting info that you think helpful. But putting wrong info will not help anyone, and might actually harm others in someways.

So what it actually says in IMEI is :

To get IMEI Number type *#06# In your mobile

    Full IMEI Presentation 35xxxx-xx-7xxxxx-0
    Reporting Body Identifier 35
    Type Allocation Code 35xxxxxx
    Serial Number 7xxxxx
    Check Digit 0

if you want to get some info from your IMEI try :

    Hope it helps :)
