I was trying to copy some files from a DVD which I bought.
I get an error message "Cannot Copy File: Data Error (cycle redundancy check)"
I took it back to the store I bought it from, But it works fine on there DVD ROM.

(I have a Compaq DVD ROM)
Is some thing wrong with my system? (My DVD ROM plays other DVDs fine)

    CRC acts like a checksum....

may be the checksum z failing when u r copying from the DVD.....

This may b due to bad DVD or DVD rom . but since the DVD worked fine at the shop... u better check the DVD rom...

Cyclical Redundany Check uses 1,0 bits to identify wheter there is a data error, possibly a data loss or a corruption.

So machang, if you get this error, that means the data in the DVD is corrupted or something like that.

I am not sure about CRC in the perspective of DVDs. But this is what it means in Networking. (Something similar to the above explanation)

But I hope the concept has to be the same, that means there is a data error..

But the DVD worked on the DVD stores ROM. Does that mean there is a problem in my DVD ROM. I don't get the error reading other DVDs.

No this happens due to the written speed of the DVD. I think your rom must be old ryt??
That does not have the capability to read the disks written in a high speed may be...

My DVD ROM is about 1 year old. It's 16x. Is this speed enough for read new DVDs.
no i think this is because ur DVD was written in high speed which ur ROM cant read. and try cleaning ur DVD Rom and try to change the DVD as well.

Is there any way to disable Cycle Redundancy Check temporarily?.
I've looked about it in the net and some sites say it isn't reliable (Data may be OK even when CRC says bad)

I think the DVD that you bought is in bad shape. Maybe your DVD ROM can't read it correctly. The DVD ROM at the store could be a better reader. It doesn't mean your DVD ROM has a problem. Maybe it's just not a good reader or maybe yours is normal and the one at the stores is a good reader.

Usually this happens when the disc is of very low quality and they selected a burn speed that wasn't supposed to minimize the errors.
