a lot of wrong info here. only difference between the two CPUs are the number of cores. if the applications cannot use more than 2 core, the duo and quad both perform same if other specs are same (cache, clock speed, fsb)

i hope you are referring to the E8400 and the Q6600
ya as anusha said multi thread apps run faster on da quad........
the best option is u buy the quad and OC it to 3.0 or higher with good cooling.....
then you have a running system.......the L2 of course will be @Mb less but it dont matter

anyway im not aware of the processor prices lately.........

ya all depends on the app.not da algorithm.....if the app cant utilize all cores no use..........

i have the i7 920 processor and its running at 3.4Ghz, but there are hell of i7 processors now. special for the LGA1156 socket. its pretty confusing now!
