I like to have AMD processor since I have used them in the past and they have higher performance level compared to intel processors (my experience). Only problem is they are no longer available widely. So even in next upgrade I would have to stick to Intel.

If It's (AMD) That kind of Great why they ain't available man,:lol::lol::lol:

I'd definitely choose Intel But not because they say VGA's are not needed.
VGA's are essential. Only poor gamers say the on-board sucking thing is good.

(I'm still stuck with one of those on-board nightmares. Hope I'd wake up to the nVidia Reality soon)

That is bcoz, if you do no use a AMD processor you do not know about it. And also peole in those computer shops always talk negatively about AMD processors and some of them say they do not sell AMD processors, probably bcoz of the reduced profit they can earn from AMD processors.

So when you go first time to buy a processor usually most influencing is the talks issued by the computer shop. If they say that AMD is not good you do not buy it and you probably do not know about it. That is the reason for less demand of the AMD processors in SL.

You are wrong. Only Intel has 64bit. That's on their Itanium line of CPUs.

What AMD is got is not 64bit. It is just an extension to the "age old" x86 architecture. That's what Intel's desktop and lower end server class processors (Xeon) have too. They are not "true" 64bit architectures.

    AMD's AMD64 = Intel EM64T more or less.

They have some 64bit components like registers and ALU portions. But it is not completely 64bit like the Itanium CPU are.

Come on! Why can't people just read a review?

Don't look at the memory bandwidth tests. They are always higher on AMD because of their "superior" hypertransport bus. But what the end user needs is the end performance. Intel delivers better results at the end of the day.

IMHO sun sparks have 64 bit or more.

But AMD is energy efficient and cost efficient. And they have L3 with new ones.
    Actually not anymore.

Look at the power consumption of the new Phenom X4's?

Even when the PC is put into standby (S1 mode), they consume like 20W of power! AthonX2 used to only consume like 5W!

And performance per watt statistic is definitely not on AMD's hand.

AMD doesn't really do well with cache, because they have lowered most of the bottlenecks with the IMC. They just need raw performance from other aspects like clock speed, IPC, brand prediction, wider SSE execution etc. etc.
