my advice, if you are not frequent flier ( i mean 4 - 5 times a year) buying a branded luggage will not work. Sri lankan Air port throws out our baggages. so regarless of branded high quality, low quality all get damaged very fast. Air hosters and Pilots are using high quality bags. those long last because they handle their bag on their own...

Exactly right. This is exactly what I do too for decades. One bag only containing clothes. Everything else packed in cardboard boxes. These boxes are carted and handled separately by the airline, labelled limited release. No damage ever happened to them. Return back with one bag only - quite convenient.

This is true. But still, it's always a good idea to buy a durable one. luggage getting messed up (handle coming off, wheels getting fucked up, etc) while you travel is something you don't want.

YES thats why my solution for such event also said in following post (USING Food Wrapping)
also it is much better to use bag belt. then handling people will grab it via belt. belt will damage but bag handles will be saved. and once it is tighten with belt, bag become whole cube. force will spread across the bag more evenly than throwing via handle. so it is safety plus durability increment.
