In an attempt to understand Sri Lankan people's thoughts and maybe to learn from each other....please post your replies with:

EXACT Model:
Stock Speeds (Core/Memory):
Currently running speed (Core/Memory and any other applicable): (unless you have overclocked, it's the same speed as stock)
Time of purchase:
Price you paid for it:
And reasons behind your choice:

I'll go first.

Model: Sapphire "powered by ATI" X800GTO 256MB 12 pipelines
Stock Speed (core/mem): 400MHz/980MHz
Current speed: 520MHz/1060MHz (with 16 pipelines enabled)
Time of purchase: 2006 Q4
Price: Rs.9,500
Why: Deal of a life time. I think they got the price wrong  They are selling it for Rs.22,000 now.

For the people who are lazy to type these, copy and paste this list:

Model:
Stock Speed (Core/Memory):
Current Speed (Core/Memory):

    Old(original) VGA;

    Model:ASUS(nVidia) GeForce FX5800 128MB V9900TD, 8pixelpipes
    Stock Speed (Core/Memory):400Mhz/800Mhz
    Current Speed (Core/Memory): -/-
Time of purchase:about 2 years ago
    Price: Rs 25 000.00
    Why:
    + for the performance
( those days most of shop owners in SL didnt know about high end VGAs. so only EPSI had some "Cards" so went for it,there also all other lower price versions were low graded (like LE vers.) As always ASUS cards are high priced.
    +3 years warranty(which made a good return;) )

    My current VGA;

    Model:ASUS(Ati) Radeon A9800 PRO/TVD 256MB @ 256Bit, 8pixel pipes
    Stock Speed (Core/Memory):380Mhz/680Mhz
    Current Speed (Core/Memory): 378Mhz/676Mhz
    Time of purchase:about 6 months
    Price: retailed @ ~$400. (~Rs 40 000. !)
but i got free/RMA (got as a replacement for above card(5800), as it stopped working)
    Why:
well i had option to take GF6200 256MB immediately OR wait for 3 months for a card ASUS sends. i agreed to latter, i had spent 3 months without a vga and i got A98000pro. there werent any options, so had to take.

well theres some plus points of A9800PRO; (comparing Fx5800)
    much better than FX5800 128MB @ 128bit.
    +256MB @ 256bit.
    Video Input (v. capture capability)
    two cool cooling fans, ;)
    Making Casing HOT, literally. ;)

BUt sadly i dont play any games these days as the EXAMS

But this was almost 2.5 years ago ;) And as far as I know, you can't use pirated DVDs on the XboX360. So a video card isn't too bad. And, usually PC version of a game has better graphics wise than teh version that comes for a console. But the performance will always be very good on a console.

And bigger the monitor, you need a more powerful graphics card, unless it doesn't give a high resolution.

    sorry for the late reply.

BTW ANUSHA if you get a any offer like that (like a X800GTO @ under 10k) again you shopuld really post here man. i would think about buying an extra one at that price hehe ;) J/K

well there are few others guys who got better cards in Srilanka, as EPSI had brought some Rs.80 000 cards and they had few ATI cards retailed here about Rs.50 000. feww months ago.
So There must be buyers who purchase at that price !!

After having these cards i think normally good gamer in SL should go for a card under Rs20k ( 15k~) as there is no second hand market for vgas in SL, and new cards comes out in short intervals.

ANYWAY any other nice cards ???

BTW who are other dealers got good deals in VGAs (apart form ASUS)

The highest end card that can be found in Sri Lanka has a very good bang for the buck. It's Rs.75,000, but it's the Geforce 7950GX2 which is two 7800GTXs together. Considering the price of 7900GTX which is Rs.70,000 or Radeon X1900XTX at Rs.68,000, this is a marvellous price for the hardcore gamer who has enough money to burn.
