ah, no. Never used commodores. Have used Sinclair QLs.

yeah. It was quite popular in its time. You can plug it to the TV so no need for a monitor. Had 2 Tape Cartridge drives! and it supported colors! not just green on black! It had a word processor, spreadsheet and database program and also had BASIC! (Quantum Leaps ahead of its time! )

well, I was like 10 or 11 years old when I played around with the QL. Didnt know a damn thing about CPUs, HDDs (heck, the QL didnt have HDD!!). It was when I was using the 286 that I started having some form of formal education on IT and learned about the components like CPU, memory, HDD, Floppy drive, etc.
Even then the 386 was the hottest thing in town and 10GB HDD entered the market (and was damn expensive!).
Acer was CD ROM drives at the time and Acer Monitors just made it in to the market and the CHEAPEST keyboards and mice around were the Genius brand ones and nobody wanted those (they bought Microsoft keyboards and mice instead). Yamaha was the poor man's sound blaster card.
The CD roms that were at 1x was suddenly at 12x and then at 32x and went to 56x and there were some Creative CD ROMs at 62 or 64x (didnt last long as they literally shattered the CDs to pieces! )
The onboard VGA was split out and a separate VGA cards started coming so that we can upgrade the VGA and those cards actually had memory chip holders to add more memory chips to increase VGA memory!
As for the question, Yes, I did think that IT could develop this far. The signs were already there.
