Ok guys. So now the war is over and yes obviously every one in the country is happy about it including me being a person personally affected by terrorism.
well the next big question is racism.
during the last fw years racism has grown very much in this country and if you take elakiri for an example you can see how many posts there are and people there are who scold other religions and communities. even the terrorism problem in this wonderful country of ours initiated due to racism(i dont want to go much deeper into it).
now as the war is over do you think racism will go down. will u tolerate and support a person who is being a racist?? will you consider all people in this country, people of all religions and communities as your brothers and sisters or will you be saying "No, he's a tamil. dont help him", or "he's a muslim, dont do business with him" or "no he's a sinhalese, dont associate with him". will you be saying or even think of stuff like that or rather say "common man. ur giving me a good deal than the other fellow. im doing business with you" or "oh feel sorry for you bro. hope your ok" or "hello there. my name is kannan. im ur new neighbour. let me know if you need n e help"??
or will u even watch other people doing things like that and also encourage them to continue or tell them that they better stop what they are doing??
in here i would like to tell u guys a story that i saw with ma own eyes on the road two days ago. well it was in wellawatta and i was like going to a frnds place and then on my way i met another frnd who was returning for a class and v stopped and had a small chat on the road. then there was this person who was selling national flags on the road. we were like next to his small table top shop and then a few mins later there was this fellow i think must b around 30 or 40 yrs old who was passing by and stopped at the shop. he then asked the shop fellow like this. "Malli bauddha kodi nathda?". then da shop fellow said no and this person replied saying "me api jayagrahane kale bauddha kodi wikunana one ne. ape jathiya dinalane". and then during the same time there was this another person who was purchasing a flag there and by the looks of him having a pottu in his forehead and wearing a sarong like dress looked at this fello and said this. what do you think he said ah?. well his sinhala was not so good but he was able to tell wat he wanted to tell. "mahattaya, me jayagrahane lankawata awa jayagrahane. api okkoma religion, race balanne nathuwa meka celebrate karanna one. oya mehema racists kenek wenna epa". and you know what this other person said? he said "oya oyage wadak balagena hitapan kotiya". now this is something unacceptable. im not saying this to insult any religion or what so ever but common man. this person is being simply racist. the other person says him that this is not a victory for any religion or community but for the whole country but he scolds back accusing him of being a terrorist.
i would like to relate another incident that actually happened. i also live in wellawatta and naturally wellawatta mean mainly tamils live there. but for me its lyk in our neighbourhood there is lyk a few muslims and this one sinhalese family and quite a lot of tamils. during wesak this sinhala family had like always put up a buddhist flag in front of their house. it was there untill last sunday when i saw this person removing the buddhist flag and putting up a national flag. i askd him y he was removing it and not putting both the flags but only one flag. the reply he gave me was something that you can rarely expect from someone. he said "putha, this is a victory of the whole country. you see in this neighbouhood even the tamils have put the national flag. if i put the national flag and the buddhist flag both, its like being a racist. this is a time of national unity. not for any religios festival or something". now here is a person who i consider is a real patriot.
now i think ive talked enough here. tell me you ideas also. and u guys can also vote in the poll above. be honest. by voting in the poll you swear upon your god that you have answered truthfully.
