    10) Chiththee

I believe this series has ended now. Anyways, i watched few episodes of this drama (early days, before dubbing into Sinhala) and found it a bit realistic one compared to others in this list.

    09) Praveena (Sinhala Dubbed version of "Kasauti Zindagi Ki" Indian soap opera)

Nice cute lady Shwetha Tiwari is! But faces can't run a show alone. You got to have a good solid story. Not a stagnating family tragedy. This is my wife's personal favorite, so I don't have any choice on TV, every week day from 9.00 PM to 9.30 PM

    08) Maha Gedara

My elder sister's personal favorite. I never visit her during 8.30 to 9.00pm

I couldn't recall the original Indian name of this soap opera, but it's from the same producers of "Kasoti Zindagi Ki". This is said to be a hit series in India, and it's understandable. Because, it was produced in India, with the Indian audience in mind.

And some one once told me, this was originally intended to compete with Bold the Beautiful!!! It's funny that, Indians trying to fight with Hollywood, and we try to promote Indian productions here in Sri Lanka.

    07) Wasuda

A locally produced series, with an Indian flavor. From the surface, it's a similar kind of "Business saga" of Wasuda's family. Again, a failed attempt to copycat Bold and the beautiful.

    06) Nilanjana

OK, all above 7 to 10 were from Sirasa TV. Here we have one from Swarnawahini's attempt to create a "feminine character" with an attractive, remarkable name and break some market share from Sirasa TV.

    05) Night Learners

    Another local production by Swarnawahini.
A "supposed to be a comedy" tele drama, but couldn't find any reason to laugh. Looks like, the director have watched too much of "Mind Your Language" during his childhood like me.

    04) Gauthami

My mother in Law's personal favorite. Lucky we don't live with them.

This is actually Swarnawahini's first attempt to copycat Sirasa TV's success formula of "Feminine Character" teledrama saga, started with the hit "Shanthi". Oh! At least they should have selected a better actress to do the role of Gauthami. I hate Paboda.

    03) Shaka Laka Baby

Did I spelled that correct? Another "supposed to be funny" drama. Some Indian man (or woman??) named R.K. is the producer / director /writer of this nonsense.

    02) Friends

Oh no oh no oh no. I'm not talking about the "American Version". This is made in Sri Lanka, wrote in India!
Oh my god! I never thought Swarnawahini is this bad! Last 5 drama's listed above are from them. I thought Sirasa is the only black sheep. This is again another production by that R.K guy, and it's supposed to be a 700 episodes! Kopi Kade is better!!!!

Can some one cancel this R.K guy's visa in Sri Lanka, before he make another tele drama?

    01) Kavya

Ladies and gentlemen. The worst Sri Lankan tele drama being telecasted these days is, none other than Kavya, the latest "feminist" of Sirasa TV!!!

It's a total disgrace to this country. Why are all the men in this drama wearing Indian dress codes at home? And why do you want to take an Indian singer to sing the theme song? Don't we have enough female singers to sing in Sinhalese in Sri Lanka? What about Sirasa Super Star girls??? And why Oshadi is dressed and dancing like a South Indian girl in the theme song?

    I agree

Wrong, SL has a very good tele drama culture and India can't even think about getting there even with their massive cinema capabilities. Kadulla, Kadawara, Weda Hamine, Dandubasnamanaya, Theertha Yaathrikaya, Bogala Saundiris, Esala Kaluwara are few examples for it. Indians are too un-educated to grasp the themes of tele dramas like these. They opt for cheap themes as we see in"gon-depaya". Now there is a new tele, a very good one, by Jayantha Chandrasiri, "Sathara denek senpathiyo". It is on Saturdays at 8.30.

We don't watch good SL films. Have you watched "Uppalawanna" or "Nisala gira". These have very deep themes, reminiscent of Bengali cinema. Hindi themes are too monotonus and only emotional. Nothing to talk to the intellegence. So if you want to see very good themes, watch Bengali films. Ex. "Pather Panchaali" by Sathyajith Rai

Once again wrong. Music of Hindi songs are based on Pakistani music and Gazzle music. Tamil films have their own Karnatic and Kannada music. What we hear from FMs are blatant copies of copies. There are a lot of songs that are novelly created here. The "Kunu" FM culture do not support them. Insted they support guys who lack creativity.

    Totally agreed.

True machan. But still there are good things created by us. Micro is better than Maruti (if you have driven both, you know what I am talking about). That explains difference of quality between India and Sri Lanka.

    ela talk eka...

Yes machan! Whew! what dramas were they! I was counting fingers to see them. But current ones, shit, I am counting fingers for the day they are over.

Another good tele dramas I could remmber is "Rekha" which was a musicla drama (back in 1984-5 time) which announced the arrival of Chandralekha Perera and Lashman Wijesekara. Delwu Pahan, Hiru hinahena, Neela nuwan yuga, Kalindu ganga theere, Wana siwupaawun songs were introduced through this drama. See what songs they are ! (Click on the links to listen to them)

Seriously machang!! you know I still remember those days every time "Amba Yahaluwo" starts the theme song "Katu Akule Mal Ahare..." me and my cousins used to sing together we were kids he..he.. brings back very sweet memories!!

And would they ever feel the way we feel now in the future? .......singing "Shakalaka baby"?

And I also remember, when "Gamperaliya" was telecasting my mom used to say.. "Oh! look this is how Sri Lanka when we grew up"... used to teach us about life those days... actually we not only enjoyed also learned a lot of things!!!

In a way machang.. this is why today... even people who make false properganda against our country is actually quite successfully doing it.. because younger generation knows next to nothing and there's no way learn either!!!

    EXTREMELY SAD SITUATION!!!:sorry: :(

And we got to know the real situation about JVP insurgencies in late 1980s through them. "Awa Sanda" was a cracking tele drama. It started with a song that marks the pinnacle of the Sri lankan duets. Amaradeva and Nanda Malini sang together in Hiru dewi - sandhu gili song. Listen and see how much emotions it produces, and how it touches your heart.
