LankaNewsWeb reliably learns that President Mahinda Rajapaksha’s second son, Sri Lanka Navy officer Yoshitha Rajapaksha has attempted to shoot his uncle Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksha at the second floor of Temple Trees as the minister arrived there to meet the President after a foreign trip. At that moment, the President and Madam Shiranthi Rajapaksha have intervened to prevent a murder at the President’s official residence.
Accusing Minister Basil Rajapaksha of having secret deals with India and keeping quite at a time serious war crimes charges are levelled against his father, President Rajapaksha, and Defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksha,
Yoshitha Rajapaksha has tried to shoot the Minister using Yoshitha’s private pistol. The President has quickly intervened to take Yoshitha’s pistol and has accompanied the minister to another room. Madam Shiranthi Rajapaksha has at that point strongly criticised the Minister Basil’s recent behaviour. Yoshitha has also threatened that he would reveal about billions of rupees earned by Minister Basil exploiting President Rajapaksha’s political goodwill. The President has also joined the debate saying that even Gotabhaya Rajapaksha’s family is not impressed with Minister Basil’s behaviour.
President Rajapaksha has warned the minister that he will have to take strong action if the minister keeps quite while the Rajapaksha family is being targeted on war crimes charges. Responding, the minister has promised to make public statement denying war crimes accusations.
