Well when i got my phone , i paid around Rs.750 for the tax
what i did was i asked the person who sent the phone to put the value as law as possible for me it was $35 so less tax charges
U will also need the certificate from the TRC its not difficult to take it as i got it in 30mins ...and if u are lucky may be u will get ur phone to ur home without any tax or custom clearance as once i did...( there were no charges from the TRC ...the custom duty i don't remember nw if u fallow the process as i told u it wont be much )

Last time Iv ordered mobile phone as $50 MP3 player and paid about 2500 Rs. But no issue came from TRC

Well i imported 5 mobile phones from US two of them directly came to home and other 3 i had to go to colombo to collect it one of my friend had a contact so it was easy but i had to take the TRC certificate ...it was not a big deal ....my phones real value was around $400 to $450 but i asked them to mention the value as $35 also i asked them to mention them as cellular phones ...
