A few days ago, one of my Tamil friends met with an accident. She lives in wallawathe. Car crashed into her while she was crossing the road. It also happened in wallawathe area.
She was admitted to the kalubowila hospital. It was the best option available in that case as it is situated near to the place where accident happened.
We visit her as soon as we got the news. It was the accident ward and I found she was lying unconsciously in the bed with her parents standing nearby.
As I told you earlier she is a Tamil and her parents also Tamil. They are not good in Sinhala. Her mother can mange some Sinhala phrases but not to extend.
There was a nurse in that ward and she is a Sinhalese. She was busy at that time and as I understood she is doing her level best all that time with looking after every patient in that ward.
Heart breaker

My friend's parents couldn't speak Sinhala neither English. Our nurse also couldn't speak Tamil. Can you imagine the scenario there?
It was a total heart breaker. Her parents couldn't ask any single question about her loving daughter even though she was lying there with immense pain. No wonder they feeling left alone even though they are living in their motherland. I found myself guilty just by standing there. I did my best and became a mediator for the moment.
Just think we are trying to bring peace and harmony into our country, still we cannot give them who can speak Tamil in hospital which is located in an area where there are high population of Tamils. There were lot of Tamil patients in that ward, I found it difficult to believe that we not having Tamil nurses in those wards.
What I suggest is that we should concern more about these small things before looking into the big picture. We should worry about the real needs of our Tamil brothers and sisters rather than wasting time on debating about big political solutions.
Please send this message to anyone who can take immediate action to prevail these types of incidents happening in future. Otherwise it won’t be a surprise to a rising as we saw for last few decades.
