The funny thing about English in Sri Lanka is that people never want to speak it in real life.They wait until they master the language, and, meanwhile they would denounce anyone who would speak in English as a traitor, show-off, trying-to-be-English etc. And that same false attitude of being SINHALESE widen the difference between Colombo elite and rural villager.

But the truth is, that same false pride of being Sinhalese every inch, is the doom of the nation. Sinhalese can speak Sinhala only whereas Muslims and Tamils speak 3 languages. And they can go anywhere in the world and market their ideas. We've seen that in diaspora. Then where are the Sinhalese? Blowing their own trumpet here in Sri Lanka while others win the world. And one day they will wake up to see that we are alone and the world has rallied round the others. (That has already happened)
