Villas-Boas: Dawson will come good at Tottenham

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has backed Michael Dawson to put forward a compelling case for his inclusion in Spurs' first team.

The former Leeds defender was handed the club captaincy this summer following Ledley King's retirement but was the subject of interest from QPR toward the end of the transfer window. However, that move failed to materialize and Villas-Boas has now expressed his belief that the 28-year-old can still fight for a starting berth, especially with Younes Kaboul out with a long-term injury.

"We have chatted. There is extreme competition for that central defense position," the Portuguese boss told reporters. "Younes' operation will take him out for three to four months and it is up to Michael to compete.

"I'm sure he will come good. He is an extremely good professional and a club captain. He is looking forward to getting back into the team."

Dawson joined the north London club from Nottingham Forest in 2005 and has made 242 appearances for the side in all competitions.

Iniesta: UEFA prize belongs to everyone in Barcelona

Barcelona's newly-crowned UEFA Best Player in Europe Andres Iniesta praised team mates and supporters after being honored in front of the Camp Nou before Sunday's victory over Valencia.

Turning to Sunday's triumph, Iniesta lamented the chances missed by his team and urged them to be more ruthless in front of goal.

"The key was to take the game. We could have won more comfortably, above all in the first half. We are pleased because we still have the advantage. When you have the chances you have to take them because if not, you will suffer," he pointed out.

Iniesta beat Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo and teammate Lionel Messi to the title, the two tied in joint second behind the Fuentealbilla native.

Vilanova unconcerned by Cristiano Ronaldo's problems

Barcelona boss Tito Vilanova refused to be drawn on the furore surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo's post match comments on Sunday evening.
