Norwich City 2-1 Everton: Kamara & Holt complete dramatic late comeback

    257844hp2.jpg

Canaries' climb to the 12th after dramatic winner leaves Moyes' side six points off a top-four spo Kei Kamara and Grant Holt completed a late comeback for Norwich as the Canaries left it late against Everton to pick up an important three points at Carrow Road, despite Leon Osman’s 39th minute header giving the Toffees the lead at halftime.

Kamara's header and Holt's tap-in proved to be too much for Everton to handle, despite a resistant defense keeping the Canaries’ out until the late stages of the game.

A defeat for David Moyes’ side leaves it six points off of fourth spot, and even though Norwich has won only once in its last 10 fixtures, Chris Hughton’s side climbed to 12th place.

Hughton started both Luciano Becchio and Grant Holt for the first time in the Premier League, with Wes Hoolahan moving to the left of midfield to make room for the duo in attack. Jonathan Howson came into the starting lineup for Alexander Tettey, who was forced onto the sidelines with injury.

Kevin Mirallas however lost his place in the starting lineup as Steven Naismith reclaimed his position as right midfielder. Nikica Jelavic kept his place as lone striker with Victor Anichebe missing out completely due to injury. Seamus Coleman also returned after missing the last five games.

Robert Snodgrass was denied the first clear chance of the game, when his shot from six yards out was deflected over the bar by Sylvain Distin. Everton hit back immediately though, with Jelavic forcing Mark Bunn to parry the ball to safety early on.

A great piece of buildup play by Everton saw Jelavic chest down the ball to the feet of Marouane Fellaini, but Michael Turner brilliantly blocked the attacker’s shot right on the edge of the penalty area.

The 35th minute saw the game’s tempo increase as Bradley Johnson left Everton playmaker Fellaini with a nasty looking gash to his knee, but the referee deemed the Belgium international as making the initial foul resulting in Norwich being awarded a free kick, which Tim Howard easily saved.

Four minutes later Leon Osman broke the deadlock as he found space in the six yard-box to head in Baines’ cross from the left side of the field after some great buildup play from Pienaar and Fellaini, all resulting from a free kick near the halfway line.

Despite making no changes at halftime, Everton came out the stronger side with Baines and Fellaini testing the Norwich defense in the early moments of the second half, although a lack of precise passing in the final third of the pitch provided no clear chances for the away side.

Holt joined Baines in the book after the striker was deemed as fouling Coleman near the half-way line, although the Toffee’s did little with the resulting free-kick.

Kamara came onto the field just before the 60th minute for Becchio, and made an impact almost immediately after Holt’s pass fell to the feet of the January signing, who set himself up with a scissor-kick volley which Howard was forced to save.

Anthony Pilkington made his return in the 70th minute, coming on for Wes Hoolahan, who was kept isolated by the Everton defense. Some good deliveries by Pilkington and Snodgrass gave the home side some hope in the closing stages of the game, but Howard was repeatedly quick off his line to prevent any clear-cut chances for Norwich.

Norwich finally got an equalizer in the 84th minute when Kamara got his first Premier League goal for Norwich when he got his head onto Snodgrass’ corner, jumping above the Everton defense and heading past Howard.

The Canaries’ were close to grabbing a winner in the 91st minute, before a game-saving challenge from Distin ensured the visitor’s maintained their lead. But, with stoppage time almost over, Norwich captain Grant Holt tapped the ball into an empty with Howard off of his line following Martin’s cross into the Everton penalty box.

West Brom 2-1 Sunderland: Unstoppable Lukaku gives Baggies first win of 2013

    257842hp2.jpg

West Brom recorded its first home win of 2013 with a 2-1 victory over Sunderland, a win that moves the Baggies up to 7th in the Premier League table.

In a very scrappy game both sides created a number of opportunities but neither goalkeeper was much called upon to make a save from an on target shot. The opening goal of the game came in the first half from the impressive Romelu Lukaku, the Belgian converting a penalty after Craig Gardner had handled a Liam Ridgewell cross. The striker added a second in the second half as he chased down a poor Titus Bramble back pass and Simon Mignolet’s clearance struck him and rebounded into the net. The visitors did get a goal back with 11 minutes to play through Stephane Sessegnon but it was too little too late for the Black Cats.

The main talking point before kick off was the inclusion of Peter Odemwingie, who had been left out of the Albion squad since his transfer deadline day antics. Steve Clarke made one other change to his matchday squad that beat Liverpool, top scorer Lukaku returning to the side in place of Graham Dorrans. Injuries to Lee Cattermole and Danny Rose forced Martin O’Neill into two changes with Danny Graham given his first start for Sunderland since moving from Swansea and Seb Larsson returning to the midfield.

A very slow start to the game did not help lift the temperatures inside the Hawthorns but the game sprang into life in the 24th minute and chances began to appear at both ends of the game but somehow the deadlock was not broken. The post denied Steven Fletcher minutes after Lukaku’s miss, the striker was found by Graham and his measured low shot beat Ben Foster but struck the post and 24 – Graham to Fletcher, measured effort beat Foster but struck the post and bounced away, rebound came back to the striker but he volleyed over the crossbar.

Luckily for West Brom, its wastefulness in front of goal did not last long as Lukaku opened the scoring in the 34th minute from the penalty spot. Gardner, playing as a makeshift right back, handled a Ridgewell cross inside the area to gift the home side an opportunity to take the lead. Lukaku picked the ball up, placed it on the spot and blasted it past Mignolet for his 11th goal of the season.

The second half started slowly although there were potential openings neither side were able to test the opposition goalkeeper until the 75th minute. That was when Lukaku created and scored his second goal of the game. The striker stole the ball from John O’Shea on the halfway line and latched onto a weak Bramble back pass, Mignolet came out to clear the ball straight at the striker and the ball flew into the net

With 11 minutes to go, Sunderland grabbed itself a lifeline through an inch perfect Sessgnon strike from 12 yards. James McClean created space for himself inside the penalty area and fired a cross into six yard box; the ball struck Jonas Olsson and dropped to Sessegnon who curled the ball into the top corner.

Arsenal 2-1 Aston Villa: Cazorla leaves it late to ease pressure on Wenger

    257808hp2.jpg

Arsenal eased the pressure on Arsene Wenger as a Santi Cazorla double gave it a fourth win in five Premier League games against Aston Villa on Saturday.

The Spaniard had given the Gunners an early lead after five minutes, before Andreas Weimann equalized for the visitors midway through the second-half.

But Cazorla was at the ready to slot home with just minutes to go as the Gunners closed the gap on fourth-placed Tottenham to one point, extending Villa’s miserable run to just one win in 10 games.

Wenger made four changes from his side’s 3-1 humbling at the hands of Bayern Munich on Tuesday, with Nacho Monreal returning at left back and Carl Jenkinson replacing the injured Bacary Sagna. Giroud was also reinstalled to lead the line, while Abou Diaby came in for Aaron Ramsey.

The visitors, meanwhile, were still without skipper Ron Vlaar but welcomed Gabriel Agbonlahor back into the lineup as a left winger.

From the off, it was all Arsenal. The hosts controlled possession with palpable ease and created the first chance of the game after just two minutes, with Jack Wilshere forcing an early save from Brad Guzan.

And the Gunners didn’t have to wait long to open the scoring as Cazorla found possession minutes later, tucking away an easy finish at the second time of asking. Nathan Baker had blocked the Spaniard’s initial attempt at a cross but Cazorla showed no hesitation in reacting first to convert.

But Villa responded instantly, mustering its first chance of the game after 9 minutes as Charles N’Zogbia fed Agbonlahor on the edge of the box, only for the 26-year-old to fire his shot straight at Wojciech Szczesny.

After the Gunners’ emphatic start, a cricket score had looked a possibility but Villa was the side looking more and more likely to score. Close to the half-hour mark, the visitors enjoyed their best chance yet as N’Zogbia was first denied by Szczesny before Andreas Weimann then had his shot cleared by Per Mertesacker.

Theo Walcott curled a left-footed shot over the bar minutes later, before Giroud was then denied by Guzan once again as halftime approached.

But while the Gunners were playing like a side chasing Champions League qualification, the visitors were counterattacking with the hunger typical of a side fighting for vital points to keep them in the Premier League.

And on 68 minutes, Villa made its sharpness on the break tell as Weimann ended a fantastic move with a strike from range – all of which started from an Arsenal corner. Szczesny could have done better between the sticks but it was the speed at which the visitors broke that really caught the home side off guard.

With the equalizer came tension at the Emirates. The home crowd was anxious and Wenger knew it would settle for nothing less than a win.

The Frenchman responded by replacing Jenkinson with Lukas Podolski in an extremely attacking move. But it was Cazorla who again made the difference as the Spaniard found himself unmarked on the penalty spot late on to fire home the winner for his side.

    Congratulations Manchester United!!!

:love:QPR 0-2 Manchester United: Van Persie blow sours comfortable victory for runaway leaders

    257829hp2.jpg

A Brazilian blaster from Rafael set Manchester United on its way to a comfortable 2-0 victory over QPR to extend its lead at the top of the Premier League to 15 points.

United full back Rafael slammed a stunning half-volley in to the top corner from 25 yards to put United ahead in the 23rd minute on a cagey afternoon in west London.

Ryan Giggs sealed the points for the league leaders 10 minutes from time as he beat QPR’s offside trap to sweep the ball home.

The only concern for United will be the apparent back injury that forced top scorer Robin van Persie off five minutes before halftime after a collision on the touchline.

The result leaves United with a 15 point advantage over closest rival Manchester City before Roberto Mancini’s men take on Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

It was yet another efficient performance from the champions elect as they extended their unbeaten run to 15 league matches and marched one game closer to a 20th English title.

QPR, for their part, remain rock bottom in the Premier League and look increasingly doomed.

After a tepid start to the game, United took the lead in the 23rd minute with a goal from nowhere. Julio Cesar parried away van Persie’s initial cross and the ball fell for Rafael to crack an outstanding half-volley into the top corner from 25 yards. The Brazilian will never score a better goal in his life.

A swift United move ended with Cesar producing a fingertip save to keep out van Persie’s cushioned volley after the Dutchman latched on to a cross from Rafael.

It was van Persie’s last real involvement of the afternoon as he was substitute five minutes before the break with a back injury he appeared to pick up in an innocuous collision with a photographer in the build-up to United’s opener.

The action barely picked up in the early stages of the second half and Redknapp responded on the hour mark by bringing on January signing Loic Remy for the injured Zamora.

The Frenchman almost made an immediate impact when he cut in from the left and saw his powerful near-post shot saved by David De Gea in the United goal.

Yet as QPR attacked, the game opened up for United on the counter-attack and Ferguson’s side took advantage 10 minutes from time.

Nani played in Giggs and the 39-year-old used all of his experience to beat the offside trap and slot his finish past Cesar.

Bayern Munich 6-1 Werder Bremen: Rampant Roten celebrate Heynckes landmark

    257822hp2.jpg

Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes marked his 1000th game in the Bundesliga in the best possible fashion, as his charges responded with a dominant 6-1 victory over Werder Bremen to move 18 points clear at the summit.

Arjen Robben and Javier Martinez set their side in motion with first half goals, and Kevin de Bruyne's strike was little more than a consolation for the visitors as an own goals from Theodor Gebre Selassie, Franck Ribery's effort and two for Mario Gomez ensured a simple three points for Die Roten.

Enjoying a run of imperious form during 2013, Bayern Munich came out in front of their own fans hoping to further extend their dominance at the top of the Bundesliga standings. Die Roten, however, struggled in the early stages to break down a stubborn Bremen side, who pressed hard across the pitch and gave little to their opponents during a tense opening.

Arjen Robben was one of the first in red to force a save from Sebastian Mielitz, before Mario Gomez saw his effort blocked after being teed up by an intelligent dummy from Xherdan Shaqiri. The tide was turning though, and the Bavarians made the breakthrough 25 minutes into the first half. Phillippe Lahm stretched the Werder defense down the right before floating a cross into the area, and as Lukas Schmitz hesitated it was Robben who took advantage as he volleyed home to open the scoring.

It was a bitter blow for Bremen, who lost its shape in the middle of the half, and Bayern was merciless in punishing its inattention. Robben next turned provider just minutes later, swinging a free kick into the area. Javier Martinez reacted first, heading past Mielitz with a great finish to give his men a commanding lead.

The visitors tried to bounce back, Theodor Gebre Selassie going close with a decent header that flew just wide of the post, but things would only get worse before the interval. Mario Gomez broke through on goal and, just outside the area, went down rather theatrically under the pressure of Sebastian Prodl's clumsy tackle. Contact appeared minimal, but the defender had undoubtedly impeded a goalscoring opportunity and the referee had no hesitation in showing the red card, reducing Bremen to 10 men for what would be a tough second half.

Bayern wasted no time in making the most of its numerical advantage. Gomez got the best of substitute Mateo Pavlovic, and under pressure from Franck Ribery Gebre Selassie turned the ball past his own keeper as he failed to deal with the striker's cross. The floodgates were well and truly opened. Just five minutes into the half, Ribery did well in reading Robben's lofted pass, and delicately chipped the ball over the head of Mielitz. It appeared goalbound, but Gomez made certain by smashing home into the empty net to end the game as a contest.

There was to be one cheer for the beleaguered away fans. As Bayern pushed forward to further liquidate the match, gaps appeared in defence and, after Dante surrendered possession in his own area, Kevin de Bruyne stole in at the far post to convert past Manuel Neuer and hit a consolation.

In spite of losing the clean sheet, Bayern continued in control of proceedings and was given few problems as it cruised through what remained of Saturday's encounter at Allianz Arena, recording their 12th win in 12 during 2013. There was still more cheer for the hosts, as Riberyhit a deserved goal on the volley to further twist the knife in the closing minutes. Werder were counting down the minutes until the end, but Gomez continued the humiliation with his close-range finish after Robben had chipped over the top.

The Bavarians are next in action on February 27, when they face Borussia Dortmund in the DFB Pokal as they continue their hunt for the treble.

Fulham 1-0 Stoke City: Berbatov stunner spoils Brek Shea's debut

    257775hp2.jpg

An unstoppable volley from Dimitar Berbatov proved decisive in securing a 1-0 win for Fulham over Stoke City and spoiling a promising debut for Brek Shea on Saturday.

The Bulgarian rifled home in first-half stoppage time after the Potters failed to clear Sascha Riether's searching cross from the right to take his tally to nine goals for the season.

Martin Jol made three changes to the side that drew 0-0 with Norwich last time out, with Ashkan Dejagah, Giorgos Karagounis and Riether all starting, while Geoff Cameron and Marc Wilson came in for Stoke.

A lively start to the match saw presentable chances squandered by both sides as first Jonathan Walters wasted an opportunity to really test Mark Schwarzer before Berbatov volleyed over the top after good work on the right flank by Riether.

The hosts did have the ball in the net in the 11th minute although referee Lee Probert correctly ruled that Bryan Ruiz had used his hand to convert following Damien Duff's delicious in-swinging free kick from deep.

In the 24th minute, Stoke's starting left winger Matthew Etherington had to be pulled off due to an back injury. This gave United States international Brek Shea an opportunity to make his Stoke debut and he looked active after not playing a game since Oct. 28 with FC Dallas.

Steven N'Zonzi, who was visibly riled after taking a whack in the face from a flailing Berbatov arm just minutes earlier, was then perhaps fortunate to escape with only a yellow card after pushing Ruiz in the face.

And Karagounis nearly made the Potters pay from the resulting free kick, with his curling effort forcing Asmir Begovic to palm over the top of his crossbar.

Jol's men would go into the halftime break with a 1-0 lead, however, with Berbatov the man of the moment as, in first half stoppage time, he arrowed a sublime volley into the top corner after Robert Huth had only half-cleared Riether's cross.

A defensive error nearly cost the hosts almost immediately after the restart as Philippe Senderos attempted to block off Peter Crouch only for the former Tottenham striker to nip in front of his man, forcing Schwarzer to rush out and smother.

Shea forced a penalty after he was fouled in the box and Schwarzer was again called into action he denied Stoke from the penalty spot. Dejagah was penalized for handball in the box and Walters stepped up only to see his spot kick saved low to the Australian's right.

Fulham almost doubled its advantage shortly after as Berbatov produced a couple of nonchalant flicks to get away from Huth but his awkward low volley was gathered at the second attempt by Begovic.

Shea, then struck a fizzing low shot just wide before John Arne Riise had Begovic worried in the 64th minute with a bending effort that drifted just over the top.

Fulham looked the most likely to score the game's second goal as the game entered the latter stages with Karagounis blasting over the top after cutting inside from the left flank before Ruiz jinked past Ryan Shawcross and into the box but he ultimately failed to deliver the telling final pass.

Even with the introductions of Cameron Jerome and Kenwyne Jones, Stoke failed to find an equalizer, with the result moving the hosts up to 11th in the table, one point behind Tony Pulis' men in 10th.

Barcelona 2-1 Sevilla: Brittle Blaugrana bounce back against wasteful Rojiblancos

    257903hp2.jpg

Barcelona somewhat-fortuitously put its Champions League woe behind it with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Sevilla that allowed the Catalans to stretch their lead at the top of La Liga to 15 points.

Just as it did against AC Milan at San Siro on Wednesday night, the Blaugrana looked largely devoid of ideas for long periods and their defensive deficiencies were exposed once more when Rojiblancos defender Alberto Botia silenced Camp Nou just before the break.

David Villa and Lionel Messi turned the game back in Barca's favor by the hour mark but they would not have held on to all three points had it not been for some dreadfully wasteful finishing from both Ivan Rakitic and Alvaro Negredo.

While Real Madrid initially left star man Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench for their meeting with Deportivo La Coruna earlier in the evening, with Tuesday’s Copa del Rey Clasico at Camp Nou very much in mind, Barca opted to risk starting with Messi up top, which was just as well, really.

One imagines that the diminutive Argentine would have been dead against a rest, anyway, given that he had effectively taken a night off against Milan in midweek. Messi certainly looked a different player against Sevilla, creating an opening for Andres Iniesta inside the first five minutes, only to see his teammate ultimately crowded out after cutting inside on to his right foot.

The mercurial duo combined again midway through the first half when Iniesta nonchalantly picked out his teammate in a couple of yards of space on the right-hand side of the box. However, Messi’s low strike from an acute angle was easily dealt with by Beto.

Truth be told, the Sevilla players were coping quite comfortably with everything that Barca were throwing at them. Admittedly, their most effective tactic was taking it in terms to chop down Messi every time he attempted to build up a head of steam, but their defensive shape was excellent and they stunned their hosts with a classic sucker punch just before the break.

Rakitic floated a free kick from left to right and, after controlling it beautifully, Coke lofted the ball into the area for Botia to beat Victor Valdes with a downward header. Camp Nou was stunned - and yet it was wholly unsurprising given its side’s woeful defensive record of late.

It was clear that the Blaugrana needed a swift riposte to restore their fragile confidence - and they got one five minutes into the second period, Villa cushioning a sublime cross from Dani Alves past a helpless Beto.

The goal, coupled with the halftime introduction of Cristian Tello in place of the typically ineffective Alexis Sanchez, transformed Barcelona and it took the lead just before the hour mark. Messi started and finished the move, passing wide to Tello before losing his man, Botia, in the area and then coolly sidefooting the return-ball home.

Messi went close to netting a second goal in as many minutes but his long-range effort flew just over. However, Sevilla had not gone away and Rakitic really should have restored parity on 69 minutes but he dragged his shot wide after being the recipient of a terrific cut-back from the impressive Navas.

If that was profligate, what followed five minutes later was far worse, Negredo lifting the ball over the bar after being put straight through on goal by Rakitic's slide-rule pass. Sevilla would not get a better chance to salvage what, on the whole, would have been a deserved draw.

Deportivo La Coruna 1-2 Real Madrid: Blancos late show leaves Liga's basement boys brokenhearted

Real Madrid had to come from behind to secure a 2-1 win against a hard-working Deportivo La Coruna side at the Riazor.

Los Merengues took a while to get going in Galicia and their inability to create in the final third cost them as Riki put the hosts ahead in the first half. Jose Mourinho used all three subs shortly before the hour mark and it proved to be a masterstroke. Kaka got the equalizer in the 73rd minute before Gonzalo Higuain provided the crushing blow to the hosts with two minutes of normal time remaining.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Mesut Ozil were among the players rested for Madrid and Deportivo looked to take advantage by beginning the game positively. However, Madrid refused to sit back and a 15th-minute free kick offered it a chance to silence the hosts.

Angel di Maria was handed the responsibility of taking the set play and he arced a powerful effort to Daniel Aranzubia's left that the keeper was forced to turn behind the post.

Mourinho's men soon monopolized the ball but were lacking a cutting edge in order for them to forge clear-cut opportunities.

The longer that the Galicians kept the score level the more confident they became, however, two brilliant efforts from Pizzi in quick succession were hit narrowly off target.

But in the 35th minute Riki did not make the same error. Running in behind Pepe to latch onto Pizzi's through-ball, the veteran striker struck a low, powerful effort to Diego Lopez's near post and the keeper was unable to keep it out.

There could well have been a second for the hosts before the break as Paulo Assuncao released Pizzi moments before the break. The Portuguese skipped inside of two Madrid defenders and beat Lopez with a curling, cross-goal effort but Marcelo got back to clear it off the line.

Riki and Bruno Gama also could have added to the scoreline before the break, the latter seeing his shot saved after gliding in from the right.

Los Blancos began the second half with much more vigor but despite Jose Callejon's lively runs, he was unable to direct a pair of attempts on target before Marcelo's shot was blocked en route to goal by Abel Aguilar.

With 57 minutes on the clock Mourinho played all his cards at once, introducing Ronaldo, Ozil and Sami Khedira to the action.

The substitutions had a galvanizing effect and Madrid finally pulled level in the 73rd minute. Kaka received the ball in space at the top of the box and he placed his shot perfectly, curling an effort just inside of the post.

Deportivo were clinging to the draw from then on and it took a great save from Aranzubia to deny Ronaldo in the 78th minute after the forward had skipped past Alex Bergantinos.

The Portuguese saw a header shade the outside of the post moments later but he was instrumental in the winner that came with two minutes of normal time remaining. Kaka's through-ball was unselfishly laid across goal by Ronaldo, offering Higuain the simplest of finishes to steal all three points.

Di Maria was dismissed for picking up two bookings in quick succession after ignoring the referee's demands to retreat from the Deportivo free kick.

But Madrid still got the win which ensures that Barcelona will remain within 16 points at the top of La Liga while Deportivo remains rooted to the bottom of the table.

Newcastle boss Pardew: I want Sissoko to play like Lampard

    251960hp2.jpg

The manager said he wanted to sign a "traditional No. 10" in the mould of Wayne Rooney and Marouane Fellaini, and he hopes that his new arrival can fill in that role
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew says he wants new signing Moussa Sissoko to play in the style of Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard, as he praised the Frenchman's fine start at the club.

Sissoko, since signing from Toulouse in January, has impressed in all three of his Premier League appearances, particularly in a match-winning performance against Chelsea as his two goals led the Magpies to a memorable victory.

The French international's arrival has coincided with an upturn in form for Newcastle as it has won two of its last three league games, having gone five matches without a win prior to his debut against Aston Villa.

Pardew has certainly been pleased with his new signing's impact at the club stating that he is a perfect fit for the Newcastle side.

"I think he really fitted the bill for what I wanted in this team. I wanted a traditional No. 10 and today that is really more of a midfield player's role than a striker's, with the exception of [Wayne] Rooney and [Marouane] Fellaini. I'd put Sissoko in that bracket," he told reporters.

"He's got that strength and stability to get wide players in the game. Frank Lampard did it from midfield for Chelsea all those years and I'm hoping Sissoko plays that role."

Sissoko was joined in January by four other Frenchmen and, ahead of a club-imposed 'French Day' in its game against Southampton tomorrow, Pardew also waxed lyrical about the club's support and their attitude towards the new signings.

"The city has embraced this French revolution we've got going on," he added. "We're all having a little go to learn French.

"Berets have sold out, you can't find an onion in Newcastle, they're all around peoples necks tomorrow.”

Stramaccioni admits Milan is the favorite

The young trainer conceded Inter's derby opponent is riding high following its Barcelona win, but nevertheless laid down the gauntlet for his team to play without fear.Inter coach Andrea Stramaccioni has conceded that AC Milan is the team to beat going into the Derby della Madonnina on Sunday.

The Rossoneri's victory over Barcelona in midweek, together with Inter's stuttering league form of late, combine to ensure Massimiliano Allegri's men are popularly touted to win.

But Stramaccioni, who similarly prepared for the crunch tie with a 3-0 triumph away to Cluj in the Europa League, anticipates a reasonably even game to be played out over the course of 90 minutes.

"They've just beaten the best team in the world and we're coming off a period in which we've been inconsistent, so they could be considered favorites," the 37-year-old acknowledged to reporters. "As the Inter coach, that's of no great interest to me however. I could also say that last season we looked like lambs to the slaughter, and then we gave them a hard time.

"You can't deny that [playing in the Europa League] affects you, but I've never been one to look for excuses. Getting your approach right is crucial, and our fans will help us to do that."

Nerazzurri defender Andrea Ranocchia is likely to miss out due to a problem sustained midweek, as an injury crisis continues to ravage the squad.

"When you lose key players, you're forced to rethink a lot of things from a tactical point of view," Stramaccioni continued. "If Ranocchia isn't available, our options are rather limited. I don't even know if I'll have three first-team center backs available, even accounting for those on the bench.

"Every time we've found ourselves getting used to a certain playing system, something has happened to disrupt it. Regardless of how important this game is though, the season doesn't end tomorrow."

Beckham may start against Marseille, says Ancelotti

The Italian admitted that it would not be a risk to start the England veteran in the Classique on Sunday, and stressed the importance of getting a good result at Parc des Princes Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that David Beckham is ready to make his Paris Saint-Germain debut against Olympique de Marseille on Sunday.

The 37-year-old is yet to feature for the Ligue 1 leaders following his January deadline day move, but Ancelotti has confirmed that the former England captain is ready to pull on the PSG shirt for the first time.

"Beckham is available," he told BeIn Sport. "He has worked well. He wants to play. He's in good physical condition, that's what's important. If he starts, it will be in the midfield. Maybe he will start.

"Starting him would not be a risk because he's a player in good shape physically. If he starts, he can play 60 or 70 minutes. If he's on the bench, he will play for maybe 30 or 40 minutes.

"All of the tests are positive. He's a player in top shape. He's always focused. He's always professional. I won't be giving away my starting XI here."

The Italian added his belief that Beckham will work well with striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who he has backed to perform following a disappointing showing in the defeat to Sochaux.

"Ibrahimovic and Beckham have the same objective," he continued. "They fit well together and have a good relationship. They both want to win the title. They are stars, but they are also important players. I'm happy to have them, put simply.

"Zlatan was having difficulty against Sochaux but, after this week of work, we will see a quicker, more aggressive Ibra. I'm sure that he will have a great match tomorrow."

Victory for PSG on Sunday would open up an eight point gap on Marseille, and Ancelotti admits that such an advantage could prove crucial in deciding the destiny of the title.

"I have a lot of respect for Marseille. They're a team who win a lot away because they have experience," the former Chelsea coach went on.

"Marseille are a strong team physically with good attacking players like the Ayew brothers [Andre and Jordan] or [Mathieu] Valbuena. It will be an attacking, heated match - that's what a Classique is like. I hope that it will be a good match to watch, too.

"It's a very important match. To have Marseille eight points behind us would be very good for us. We will play to win tomorrow; we can win with a good defense or a good attack."

Wenger admits Bayern and Blackburn setbacks have disrupted Arsenal

The Gunners' boss says his side was on a good run in the league before successive cup defeats at the Emirates Stadium knocked the confidence out of his now nervous players Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits that the losses to Blackburn and Bayern Munich in the last week have disrupted his side's Premier League progress, after the Gunners left it late to earn a 2-1 win over Aston Villa.

The Frenchman says his side was on a good run in the league before it crashed out of the FA Cup to Rovers and surrendered three away goals to the Bavarians in the Champions League in the last seven days.

Arsenal got back to winning ways courtesy of a double from Santi Cazorla, but the victory was far from straightforward as the Gunners only just managed to claim the three points after a nervous afternoon against Paul Lambert's men.

"We are on a good run in the [Premier League] and we have been affected by the major disappointments we have had, you can see that in the nerves," he told Sky Sports News.

"We could have scored many many more goals today, but we got the three points and that’s what counts."

Cazorla's two clinical finishes, the second of which came in the last 10 minutes, were enough to see Arsenal to the three points. After the game Wenger found positives in the team's attitude and performance.

He added: "Yes, [Cazorla] got us two very important goals and I'm very happy with the team attitude and team performance."

The 63-year-old also urged Arsenal fans to get behind the players during this testing period.

"We need their support, no matter how disappointed they are, " he said.
