:(Bayern would love to sign Rooney, admits Beckenbauer

The Bavarian giants' honorary president would welcome the signing of the Manchester United striker, whom he once described as "one of the world's greatest players" Franz Beckenbauer says that he would love for Bayern Munich to sign Wayne Rooney.

Speculation surrounding the Manchester United forward's future has been rife ever since he was left out of the starting lineup by Sir Alex Ferguson for the Red Devils' Champions League quarterfinal second leg against Real Madrid.

The Bundesliga outfit's honorary president has been a long-term admirer of Rooney, once describing him as "one of the world's greatest players".

"I would be very happy for Wayne Rooney to come to Bayern," the German World Cup-winning captain told reporters.

Pep Guardiola is set to take over the reins at the Allianz Arena at the beginning of next season and is likely to be given a substantial transfer budget to improve his alread formidable squad.

But United legend Bobby Charlton is confident that Sir Alex has absolutely no intention of letting Rooney, who has scored 15 goals in 30 games for the Red Devils this season, leave Old Trafford, while the manager himself has also denied that his star will be sold.

    Agent: Barcelona wants Jackson Martinez

    226291hp2.jpg

The Catalans are just one of a number of teams keeping tabs on the striker, including an "important" Madrid club, following his fine displays this season
Jackson Martinez's Italian representative, Giovanni Fiore, has claimed Barcelona is interested in signing the Porto striker.

The Colombia international has been in fine form since joining Porto from Jaguares at the start of the 2012-13 campaign, and his good performances have not gone unnoticed elsewhere.

"I can confirm that there's a strong interest from Barcelona. They are not the only Spanish team keeping tabs on him, though. There's an important team from Madrid as well," Fiore told Tuttomercatoweb."Additionally, there is serious interest from a big Italian team, and a few other clubs have inquired about his availability, too."

Fiore admitted that Porto won't sell Martinez on the cheap.

"Porto might study any offers they get, but we're talking about big bids here given the player's importance to the club."

The 26-year-old attacker's contract with Porto is due to expire in 2016.

Manchester United, Man City and Chelsea offered up to £175m EACH to play in new 24-team summer tournament... in Qatar :oo:

    Qatar plans Gulf 'dream league'
24 of the world's leading clubs offered mega money to sign up
Qatari Royal Family bankrolling ambitious new project to lure stars
First tournament planned for 2015 - in the soaring summer heat
Seen as huge threat to current FIFA and UEFA competitions

The biggest clubs in the world are to be offered massive financial packages to compete in a 24-team tournament in Qatar every two years.
The Times report that the Qatari royal family will release plans next month to set up a 'Dream Football League' (DFL) involving clubs such as Manchester United and Barcelona in a direct threat to Champions League

    article-2292509-18769ED2000005DC-404_634x407.jpg

Qatar, who will host the 2022 World Cup, are aiming to become a major power in world football and are reported to be willing to offer each club £175million just for taking part.
To put that in perspective, Chelsea were awarded £47.3m for winning last season's Champions League.
The total prize money given out by Europe's leading club competition is £595m - that figured would be dwarfed by the money given by the DFL to just four of its 24 proposed participants

    article-2292509-189C9272000005DC-873_634x449.jpg

The DFL would take place every two years starting from the summer of 2015. It would be played in Qatar and its neighbouring gulf states.
The aim is to have 16 permanent DFL members, with a further eight clubs from around the world invited to compete in each tournament.
Four of the proposed permanent members are thought to be English clubs, with United on the radar along with Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal.
The project is thought to already having backing from Europe in Paris, where Paris Saint-Germain are owned by Qatar Sports Investement (QSI).

    Who would take part?
The DFL would hope to entice 24 clubs, with 16 'permanent' members and eight others invited. Barcelona, Paris St Germain and Manchester City are obvious targets with their links to Gulf states, while the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea would also be asked to take part.
    When would it take place?
In the summer months, every two years, starting in 2015 to avoid a clash with the World Cup and European Championship finals. However it would clash with tournaments in other federations, such as Africa, Asia, North and South America.
How can a summer tournament be held in Qatar?
As with the 2022 World Cup, the plan is to combat the 40-degree heat with the use of air conditioning in the stadiums and public areas.
Why does Qatar want to host the event?
Firstly it would help them overcome concerns about players and fans safety at the 2022 World Cup finals. They also want the prestige of hosting a world sport event.
How would UEFA and FIFA react?
Clubs could face serious consequences if the tournament conflicted with existing FIFA, UEFA or domestic competitions.
    Could it happen?
The cash rewards was massive and bound to turn heads but could it just be a ruse to squeeze more money of the Champions League pot?

Pique: Barca was better than Milan from the start

The Catalan giants fought back from a two-goal first-leg deficit at Camp Nou, silencing their critics with an imperious victory that sees them progress to the UCL quarterfinals.

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique said his side was clearly the better side and that its quick start was crucial during its 4-0 UEFA Champions League win over AC Milan on Tuesday. The result sealed the club's place in the quarterfinals on a 4-2 aggregate, as Barca overturned a 2-0 deficit from the first leg.
