Bayern Munich took a massive step toward returning to the Champions League final with an incredible 4-0 thrashing of Barcelona in the first leg of their last four clash at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday.
On the same day that they stunned the football world by capturing Mario Gotze from Bundesliga rival Borussia Dortmund, the Bavarian giants again reminded everyone that they are a force to be reckoned with by playing the Blaugrana off the pitch.
Thomas Muller opened the scoring with a close-range header, and put the second on a plate for Mario Gomez minutes into the second half.
Muller would controversially play a role in Arjen Robben's goal after appearing to foul Jordi Alba off the ball, before tapping in the fourth himself with eight minutes remaining to round off the biggest ever margin of victory in a Champions League semifinal.
Mario Gomez replaced the suspended Mario Mandzukic up front for the hosts, while for the visitors, Marc Bartra partnered Gerard Pique in defense with Carles Puyol and Javier Mascherano injured.

QPR goalkeeper Julio Cesar insists he meant no offence after being pictured wearing a Chelsea shirt.
The 33-year-old, who arrived at Loftus Road from Inter last summer, was pictured wearing a full Chelsea kit while attending David Luiz's birthday party in London.
QPR has confirmed the matter will be dealt with internally, and the Brazilian goalkeeper has reiterated that the stunt was a joke and was not meant to upset his side's supporters.
“I would like to clarify that last night I attended David Luiz’s fancy dress birthday party and as a joke for my friend, my family and I dressed as him," Cesar said in a statement on QPR's official website.
“I want to assure everyone that absolutely no offense was intended."

De Sciglio: I'm not angry with Allegri
The 20-year-old has stressed he is not overly concerned at being restricted to the bench following his poor performance in the crucial clash with Fiorentina earlier this month.
Mattia De Sciglio insists that he has not been at all beset by his recent demotion to the AC Milan bench by coach Massimiliano Allegri.
The 20-year-old defender has been one of the revelations of the Rossoneri's season, but he has not been afforded a start since his error-strewn display against Fiorentina on April 7. Even so, De Sciglio claims that there is no problem with Allegri and says that he remains as committed to the Milan cause as ever before.

"I'm confident, though, as this team has always shown it knows how to pick itself back up after a negative period."

Fergie in £120million lift
ALEX FERGUSON could boost his title winners with a £120million overhaul this summer.
The Manchester United boss would be able to generate £70m of that through sales, with another £50m coming from the Old Trafford coffers. United know Manchester City are eyeing a big summer spree, having missed out on Robin van Persie last year.
Chelsea will also undoubtedly strengthen under a new boss. Now Ferguson is ready to do the same to stay ahead domestically, whilst making another concerted bid to win his third Champions League.
The club are set to listen to offers for both Nani at £15m and Anderson at £10m.
And while Fergie does not want to lose Javier Hernandez, he appreciates the Mexican striker may want more regular first-team football elsewhere. Hernandez has started only seven of United’s league games this season and there is plenty of interest in him from Spain, not least from Real Madrid.
The man they call ‘Little Pea’ would cost £22m but the big question mark hangs over Wayne Rooney, who Paris Saint-Germain want in a £25m deal. And United are considering cashing in on the England star, 27, who has two years left on his current contract. Top of Fergie’s list of targets are, of course, strikers.
Borussia Dortmund’s Robert Lewandowski is close to an £18m move to Old Trafford. But Ferguson is also keen on one of Europe’s most wanted in Atletico Madrid’s prolific £50m-rated Radamel Falcao. And all plans could go out the window if United entice Cristiano Ronaldo back to the club.
Ronaldo has two years left on his Real contract and refused to sign a new deal.
United could get him for £65m after selling him in 2009 for £80m — and that would be the biggest statement Fergie’s new champions could make.

Referee Kevin Friend did not see the incident and so retrospective action was taken by the Football Association, with Suarez and Liverpool accepting the charge of violent conduct on Tuesday.
But the Uruguayan, who was suspended for seven games in 2010 for biting an opponent when playing for Ajax, did not agree with the FA's assertion that a three-game ban would be insufficient punishment for his actions.
However, a statement on the FA website on Wednesday read: "Luis Suarez has been suspended for a total of ten matches after an Independent Regulatory Commission today ruled on a charge of violent conduct.
"A three-person Independent Regulatory Commission today upheld The FA's claim that a suspension of three matches was clearly insufficient and the player will serve a further seven first-team matches in addition to the standard three. The suspension begins with immediate effect."This follows an incident with Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic in Sunday's fixture at Anfield. The Liverpool forward had accepted a charge of violent conduct but had denied The FA's claim that the standard three-match sanction was insufficient for the offence.
