Liverpool new-boy Aspas hopeful hard work will pay off

    297739_heroa.jpg

Liverpool new-boy Iago Aspas believes the club's gruelling pre-season schedule has prepared him for the battle to earn a starting place.

The Spaniard, who arrived at Anfield from Celta Vigo in June, has shown promising form ahead of the new campaign, scoring three goals in four warm-up matches.

Aspas now hopes to extend that run into his debut season in England, and is certain that the intense nature of training with Liverpool will leave him in good stead ahead of the August 17 kick-off.

"At the beginning it has been a little bit tougher than the sessions in Spain, but we know there is a little more running involved in this league," he told the club's official website.

"However, we do a lot of work with the ball and I think in that respect the sessions are similar to back in Spain. I'm working hard every day to try and earn my place on the team sheet for the first game.

"From that moment on it's all about doing as well as I can and gaining in confidence to keep my place in the side."

The 25-year-old also explained that fellow new arrival and compatriot Luis Alberto has helped him settle on Merseyside, while full-back Jose Enrique has been providing guidance on and off the pitch.

"Luis has been a real source of support for me," he continued. "Because we're the two new boys, we hang out and go everywhere together.

"Jose Enrique is the person who's helping out the most at the moment. He's Spanish like us, so he's helping us out with everything - finding a house, a car, translating training ground explanations - whatever it may be, he's there to help us."

Balotelli to sit out Audi Cup

    280114_heroa.jpg

AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri has confirmed Mario Balotelli will not feature in the pre-season Audi Cup tournament.

Balotelli, 22, spent two-and-a-half seasons at Manchester City before returning back to Italy to join Milan in January, where he has been in superb form - netting 12 goals in 13 Serie A appearances.

However, he will not feature in the pre-season tournament against his old club as he has only just returned from holiday following his involvement in the Confederations Cup tournament in Brazil.

"Mario is an important player for us, but he won't be here. He's only been in training for two days after his holiday," Allegri told reporters.

The Audi Cup also includes hosts Bayern Munich and Brazilian side Sao Paulo and gets underway on Wednesday.

Mascherano confident Fabregas will snub Manchester United

    251062_heroa.jpg

Javier Mascherano is confident team-mate Cesc Fabregas will resist the opportunity to join Manchester United and a return to the Premier League to remain at Barcelona.

United have already has two bids rejected for the ex-Arsenal man as new boss David Moyes sets about strengthening his side's central-midfield position, with Goal exclusively revealing the club will return with a final €40 million bid.

However, Mascherano believes Fabregas is happy with life back in Spain and will be a key player for the club under their new coach Gerardo Martino.

"I didn't talk to him but I think he is happy," he told Sky Sports News. "It is difficult when you have to speak about the personal situation of other players because sometimes you don't know what they think.

"I see him here training and he is happy. He grew up in Barcelona and feels the call of the shirt.

"It is difficult when you grow up here to leave because Barcelona is a big team, a big city, really nice to live in and all his family is here.

"I think he is a really key player for us and I think the coach and the people who work here want to keep him.”

Alexis ready to fight for Barcelona future

    293609_heroa.jpg

Alexis Sanchez says he is determined to prove himself at Barcelona after enduring a difficult 2012-13 campaign.

The Chilean attacker moved to Camp Nou from Udinese two years ago and, despite a promising start to life in Spain, has struggled with niggling injuries and a loss of form since.

However, he is determined to show that he is worthy of a regular place in the coming campaign, despite reported interest from Napoli.

"The first thing is to have a good pre-season, then fight for a spot in the team every day," he told reporters.

"I trust in my abilities as a player, the club told me they are counting on me and I will stay to keep helping the team.

"I don't care if I play on the wing or in the middle. There is no difference."

Alexis is set to face further competition from €57 million signing Neymar next term but he is looking forward to teaming up with the Brazilian.

"I wish him the best for his development in European football," he continued.

"I hope he does well and he has the support of all the team-mates. He is just one of the team, who will try to fight for titles together."

:cool:We all have to prove ourselves, says Nani

    287548_heroa.jpg

Nani believes everyone at Manchester United will start from scratch as they try to impress new manager David Moyes.

Goal exclusively revealed earlier in July that Moyes has convinced the midfielder to remain at Old Trafford this summer, and the Portugal international began making his case for a place in the Scot's starting XI on Monday night.

Nani scored both goals in his first appearance of pre-season as a United XI recorded a 2-0 win over Crewe and the 26-year-old hopes to impress his new boss as the season approaches.

"Of course it's a bit different when Sir Alex [Ferguson] leaves the club, so you can feel the change because you know how important he was for this club," Nani told Sky Sports News.

"The team is the same and we hope the manager comes with ideas to help us to win again.

"Of course, everyone has to prove himself because it is a different manager with different ideas.

"But he knows the players because he has played against them, he has seen the TV and has seen them all these years in the Premier League.

"I think, after a couple of weeks, a couple of months, with the players, he will understand every personality."

:shocked:Atletico Mineiro accept Shakhtar Donetsk's Bernard bid

    288711_heroa.jpg

Atletico Mineiro have accepted an offer from Shakhtar Donetsk for Bernard, according to the Brazilian club's president.

However, Bernard appears closer to a move to Porto, with his father having revealed that compatriot Hulk has convinced him to move to Portugal, while his agent wants the same and has branded a move to Arsenal "risky".

Rumours in Brazil on Tuesday have indicated that a transfer to the Portuguese champions could be finalised on Friday, but Atletico chief Alexandre Kalil has revealed that, so far, only Shakhtar have submitted an offer that matches the club's asking price of €25 million.

"Things are very advanced, [Wednesday] will probably be his last game [for the club]," he told reporters. "The team is Shakhtar. They offered the value we want. If Bernard wants, he will go.

"If he does not want to go to Ukraine, that's no problem. It's in his hands. I have talked with him. It's a private matter. If he does not want to go, we will not force him."

The 20-year-old has also confirmed that he is considering the offer, but that he is yet to decide if it will be right move for him ahead of next summer's World Cup.

"I don't know if it will be best for me, I'm talking with my family," he was reported as saying by Lancenet. "But nothing is certain yet. I had a meeting with the president and he told me what Shakhtar offered him and myself. It is between Porto and Shakhtar."

Bernard, who has been named in Luiz Felipe Scolari's squad to face Switzerland on August 14, had himself suggested in a press conference on Monday that Wednesday's Brazilian league match against Atletico Paranese would be his final appearance for the Belo Horizonte side. The attacker also said that he hopes the saga that has surrounded his future is soon brought to a close, but hopes to stay with the Copa Libertadores winners until after December's Club World Cup campaign.

"I want to resolve it quickly, if go or stay, because this story is already boring," he told reporters. "I want to stay [to compete in the Club World Cup], I made it clear I did not want to go before the end of the year.

"If I have the opportunity to sign and go after the Club World Cup that would be very important. I want to have the chance to win it for Atletico."

Bernard, who had attracted interest from Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool, wants his next club to provide him with the opportunity to play in the World Cup.

"I've been studying the possibilities and proposals that have been put forward to Atletico and to me," he added. "We are looking and talking, seeing what is best for us.

"I want to be at a club that gives me visibility. I said I want to be at the World Cup and my chances grow by being at a club with good visibility. I want to be playing, regardless of where it is, but I want to be happy."

The suggestion in the Brazilian media, fuelled by talk from Bernard's agent and his father, is that Porto would be a better option for the player given the failure of Willian and Fernandinho to make the Brazil squad on a regular basis while playing in Ukraine.

Spurs want Modric in Bale deal

    lukamodricandgarethbale_576x324.jpg

Tottenham Hotspur will agree to sell Gareth Bale to Real Madrid as long as they get Luka Modric back as part of the deal, according to reports.

Despite Spurs' firm stance over the Wales international, a move to the Bernabeu this summer looks increasingly likely, with the only remaining issue being what an overall deal involves. Real have so far reportedly offered £80 million while Tottenham are looking for a package in excess of £100 million.
Tottenham are keen that they are not caught short by losing Bale, even for a huge sum, without them having a top player to fill the void.

Although Modric left White Hart Lane under something of a cloud a year ago for an initial £28 million, reports in The Times and the London-based Evening Standard suggest some of that fee is still outstanding and a guarantee of first-team football might tempt him back to North London. When questioned about Real's interest in Bale at the weekend, Modric spoke of his admiration for his former team-mate.

"I have a very good relationship with Bale, but I don’t talk about players who aren’t in the team," he told Marca. "All I can say is that he’s a great player."If Modric does return to White Hart Lane then it will leave Manchester United contemplating another of their transfer targets to move elsewhere.

Reports on Tuesday suggested that the Premier League champions were preparing to launch a £25 million bid for Modric as their search for a top-class midfielder continues, having seen Thiago Alcantara move to Bayern Munich and Cesc Fabregas seemingly set to stay at Barcelona.
