The basic point is this;

All land belongs to the government.! .. regardless of it being yours for the last 540 years, if the government wants to build a road right across your living room... you can't do anything.

That's the raw and absolute power the government has and it can maul over any court verdict or direction if it doesn't agree by it self

So., the best thing is to make sure you target your efforts in trying to get the "compensation" rather than trying to avoid giving up your land.
