    :shocked:Mysterious figures at Bayern Munich

    333363_heroa.jpg

A group of mysterious figures caused a stir in the crowd at Bayern Munich's clash with Hertha Berlin at the Allianz Arena on Saturday.

The 11 unknown men, each dressed in black robes and sat in a line, were spotted making strange synchronised gestures during the league match, which Bayern won 3-2.

Men In Black | The robed figures startled supporters

Situated six rows from the pitch just beside the halfway line in the stand opposite the broadcasting gantry, the group was also seen by TV viewers all across the world.

One fan, Torsten Schmidt, said: "It was very weird. They sat very still for a long time but then would hold their hands up together, or stand up in unison and then sit down again. Everyone near me was very confused. Some people laughed, some looked astonished. It was just very weird."

A key feature of their clothing was a circular symbol on the chest of their robes. It clearly resembled the logo spotted at a series of linked unexplained event over the past week.

Out of this world | Fans were puzzled by the circular symbol

The same symbol has been seen at locations across the globe, starting with the appearance of a hologram on Rio de Janeiro's Sugarloaf mountain on Sunday, 20 October.

A three-metre football displaying the sign then gouged a huge hole in the turf at London's amateur football hub Hackney Marshes 24 hours later, while New York City's Times Square was struck by similar images on the tourist spot's world famous digital billboards.

Further sightings of the symbol have been witnessed in the Copacabana neighbourhood of Rio and on the Brazilian city's Santa Maria hill, but this is the first time that the mystery has spread to a professional football arena. Also repeatedly spotted at the locations has been the message: #WINNERTAKESEARTH

Saint-Etienne 2-2 Paris Saint-Germain: Matuidi saves Parisiens from first defeat

    333674hp2.jpg

Blaise Matuidi saved Paris Saint-Germain from the jaws of their first defeat of 2013-14 with a stoppage-time equaliser to make it 2-2 at Saint-Etienne on Sunday.

Having not suffered defeat in any competition since a 1-0 loss to Reims back in March - their only blight of any kind being a penalty shoot-out reverse in the Coupe de France against Evian - Laurent Blanc's men were expected to continue their Ligue 1 title assault with some ease.

But they were made to dig deep to extend their sequence, with Matuidi proving the last-gasp hero.

A lively start from the hosts was rewarded with a goal from Benjamin Corgnet after 18 minutes, before Romain Hamouma took advantage of some comical defending to strike just after the break.

Fabien Lemoine controversially saw red just before the hour mark, before PSG roared back.

Edinson Cavani gave them hope with 68th-minute strike, before Matuidi's injury-time leveller - which Cavani celebrated as though he had been the one with the last touch - saved Blanc's men from an embarrassing defeat.

Saint-Etienne were without experienced defender Jonathan Brison, while Mevlut Erding took his place on the bench after returning from injury.

Club captain Thiago Silva joined Christophe Jallet and Javier Pastore on the sidelines for PSG after failing to recover from a thigh injury, while midfield pair Marco Verratti and Thiago Motta returned from suspension.

Saint-Etienne took four points off PSG last season, and they created the first chance within the opening 10 minutes.

Faouzi Ghoulam broke free down the left-hand side before pulling back to Brandao on the edge of the area, but the Brazilian could not keep his shot down.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Cavani came into the match with 19 goals between them this season, but they struggled to assert any sort of early authority.

The hosts began to press themselves, and they were rewarded for their lively start after 18 minutes when a mistake by Marquinhos allowed Hamouma to get in behind the defence and square to Corgnet, who lashed his shot past Salvatore Sirigu.

Matuidi nearly restored parity two minutes later, powering a deflected effort just wide of the post.

The home side almost doubled their advantage in spectacular circumstances just after the half-hour mark, when Lemoine's dipping long-range volley came back off the crossbar.

But they did grab a second after 51 minutes thanks to an embarrassing catalogue of errors in the PSG defence.

Francois Clerc's whipped cross was spilled by Sirigu, before ricocheting off Marquinhos and into the path of Hamouma, who guided the ball home.

PSG were given a boost soon after though, when Lemoine was controversially shown a second yellow card for a challenge with Ezequiel Lavezzi, despite replays suggesting that the PSG man may have caught him with an elbow.

The visitors made their numerical advantage count just three minutes later when Maxwell found Cavani in the six-yard box to tap home.

And just as it looked as though PSG were set for a rare loss, Matuidi's ball into the box eluded everyone and found its way into the net with Cavani and Ibrahimovic in close attendance.

Monaco 2-1 Lyon: Falcao sends Ranieri's men top

    333587hp2.jpg

Monaco went at least temporarily back to the top of Ligue 1 after beating Olympique Lyonnais 2-1 at the Stade Louis II on Sunday.

A stunning half volley by Mounir Obbadi put the hosts ahead in the first half and Colombia striker Radamel Falcao doubled the lead shortly before the break. Bafetimbi Gomis later on was able to bag a consolation for the visitors.

Obbadi made great use of a failed attempt by Anthony Lopes to clear the ball to safety after a corner kick in the 28th minute. The Morocco international was lurking outside the penalty area and picked up the rebound by unleashing a powerful half volley towards the visitors' net to put the home side ahead.

The 30-year-old was delighted with his strike. "I just caught it well and it went in," he told reporters after the match.

Nine minutes later, Falcao wrapped up a brilliant counterattack for Monaco by dinking clinically over a defender and the opposing goalkeeper.

The guests, however, were able to get on the scoresheet, even if a point evaded them, with Gomis finding the net with a header in the 62nd minute.

Monaco coach Claudio Ranieri was happy with his team's performance and took the time to praise his Colombian star as well as his side's ability to hold on to a narrow lead after the match.

"Falcao works hard for the team, he closes down, he holds the ball up," the Italian stated. "Everyone should try and play for him more.

"We did well to hold on to our lead. The important thing is to keep the ball and slow the game down."

Even though Monaco have leapfrogged Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1, PSG will have the chance to reclaim the top position by beating Saint Etienne on Sunday evening. Meanwhile, Lyon drop down to 14th.

Atletico Madrid 5-0 Betis: Villa stars as Atleti stroll past visitors

    333692hp2.jpg

Atletico Madrid eased past Betis with a 5-0 victory at the Vicente Calderon on Sunday.

Oliver Torres opened the scoring early on and David Villa then finished his drought impressively by tripling Atleti's lead with back-to-back goals early into the second half. Diego Costa and Gabi wrapped up the result with their finishes towards the end of the match.

Only 15 seconds in, Koke found Torres in front of the box and passed on to the striker to tap in for the lead.

The advantage was successfully taken into half-time and, shortly after it, Villa marked an impressive comeback as he picked up a cross to head in for the 2-0.

Not long later, it was again the former Barcelona star who got hold of the ball within the visitors' area and Villa was able to blast the ball into the net with his left foot.

In the 64th minute, Villa then rounded up his brilliant performance as he assisted the 4-0 by delivering a brilliant pass to Costa to send the ball into the far corner of the target.

Gabi then completed the rout in stoppage-time, leaving a devastated Betis in 18th place in La Liga, meanwhile Atleti are trailing table-toppers Barcelona by only one point.

Former Blaugrana star Villa was delighted with having made such a great impact and praised team-mate Torres for his goalscoring debut.

"I am happy above all for the goals and helping the team is always important," he told Canal Plus.

"[Torres] has a fantastic future ahead of him and that's why it's important not to rush him.

"He put in a great performance today and people will have many, many years to enjoy this lad. We have to be patient as he has all he needs to be a special player."

Totti: Roma showed balls to beat Udinese

    330459_heroa.jpg

Roma absentee Francesco Totti says his team-mates "showed balls" to win 1-0 at Udinese on Sunday despite being a man down.

The Italy star was unavailable due to injury but, after the match, he took the time to praise his side for grinding out the narrow victory, despite being reduced to 10 men after Maicon was being sent off.

"Compliments to my team-mates who all showed they’ve got courage, strength and balls," the 37-year-old stated on his official blog.

"We are all Roma, regardless of who is playing.

"I must also thank the fans, who supported us against an Udinese side that was unbeaten at home. Great!"

Table-toppers Roma, who are currently on a nine-game winning streak in Serie A, meet Chievo on Tuesday.

Matuidi: PSG are much stronger this season

    333719_heroa.jpg

Paris Saint-Germain's Blaise Matuidi says his team have improved mentally, having secured a last-minute draw against Saint-Etienne on Sunday.

A second-half strike from Edinson Cavani and a stoppage-time equaliser from Matuidi were enough to secure a point for Laurent Blanc's men, as they fought back from 2-0 down to extend their unbeaten Ligue 1 run to 11 games.
"We did well in holding our own with our strength of character," Matuidi told L'Equipe.

"Last year, we would have lost a game like this, even at 11 against 10. We wanted to continue our unbeaten run, we knew it would be complicated against Saint-Etienne and it was."We are happy to have pulled it back to 2-2 and that this run has not stopped today."Meanwhile, despite being frustrated for much of the game against a spirited Saint-Etienne side, coach Blanc says he still found the time to enjoy the occasion.

"The match was difficult for PSG, the technical staff and myself, but contrary to what you might think I actually had a good time," he told Canal+ after the game.
"PSG needs to understand that it is a good thing that we can still be challenged by teams such as Saint-Etienne."

Despite his own personal experience, Blanc was unhappy with his team's defensive display. He added: "Tonight we gave two goals away to Saint-Etienne with two defensive errors.

"We did not do enough to win the game and, with the game they had, Saint-Etienne deserved at least a point."

Barcelona relaxed at top of La Liga - Xavi

    333049_heroa.jpg

Xavi says Barcelona are "relaxed" about their six-point lead over Real Madrid after beating them 2-1 in Saturday's Clasico.

Neymar and Alexis Sanchez scored the goals for the hosts, before a last-gasp consolation by Jese Rodriguez wrapped up the result.

And Xavi, although being happy with the result and his side's Liga standing, called for an improvement in order to remain at the pinnacle in Spain.

"We were the better side and for that reason we are quite happy, but we have to improve a lot of things," the 33-year-old told reporters.

"This can be done through playing, and now we are six points ahead of Real Madrid we can be quite relaxed about it.

"Real Madrid are a side with excellent players. But we were in charge, and Neymar's goal gave us a lot of confidence. In a Clasico, going into the lead is 70 per cent of the battle."

The veteran midfielder also commented on complaints by Madrid players who claimed a challenge by Javier Mascherano towards Cristiano Ronaldo should have been awarded with a penalty for los Blancos.

"You can say that it was either a legal charge or an illegal one. The referee did not blow for it and so it was all the better for us," he added.

Barcelona stay at the top of La Liga, with Atletico Madrid trailing them by a point thanks to their 5-0 trashing of Betis on Sunday.

Fabregas: Pepe took my legs away

    303808_heroa.jpg

Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas says his side should have been given a penalty against Real Madrid after he was felled by Pepe during the match.

Thanks to goals by Neymar and Alexis Sanchez, the Blaugrana beat their arch-rivals 2-1 on Saturday to extend the gap between them in La Liga to six points.

And after the match, Sergio Ramos had voiced his dismay over an ungiven spot kick when he claimed Javier Mascherano fouled Cristiano Ronaldo shortly after the opener.

However, Fabregas feels the complaint by the defender is nothing more than an excuse for the lost match and pointed out a similar incident with him and Pepe which occurred during the encounter.

"They lost and are looking for an excuse," the 26-year-old was quoted as saying by Marca.

"I should have had a penalty. Pepe took my legs away, but it was not awarded".

Table-toppers Barcelona have put daylight between themselves and the Blancos, though Atletico Madrid - who sit second - can reduce the deficit behind the leaders to a point with a win over Betis on Sunday.

Cech: Torres in the form of his life

    334108_heroa.jpg

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech believes that Fernando Torres is in the form of his life after finally hitting the goal trail for the Premier League club. The Spain international striker has consistently come under fire since making a £50million switch to Stamford Bridge from Liverpool in 2011, in particular for his perceived below-par goal return.

However, the return of Jose Mourinho to Stamford Bridge has seen a revival for the forward, and after taking his season's tally to five with the winner in the 2-1 victory over Manchester City on Sunday, Cech believes Torres is back to his best.

"This is the debate everybody's been having for a long time," Cech told Chelsea TV."There were so many games when Fernando was absolutely brilliant, but because he didn't score everybody's saying 'Oh, he didn't score'.

"Now he's scoring goals, he's making goals, he's playing as well as he has during his life."
