Ronaldo: This is a great moment in my career

"I'm so happy. This is a great moment for my career. I feel so loved and always try to do my best,"

"I'm not worried about the records. They come naturally. Its positive, but I want to win more and to be better in the future.

"We knew the difficulty against Juventus. In the first half we suffered, [but] in the second half we were redeemed. We reacted so well, we hit the post and we were better.

"As I said, we’re still improving. In my opinion, we could be better. We want to be better, but we’ll do it step by step."

"For us it is a good point, very important for the leadership in the group. We are ready for qualification to the knock-out stages, although it’s still not arithmetically certain," he continued.

"I think that [Juventus] play very competitively and strongly. They’re not qualified, but I think that they will end up second in the group."

"Blatter? I only give my answers on the pitch not outside of it. All I can say is that I feel great at the moment."

Ajax 1-0 Celtic: Schone strikes to leave Bhoys on brink of elimination

    337661hp2.jpg

Celtic's hopes of qualification to the Champions League last 16 suffered a big blow after going down 1-0 at Ajax.

Lasse Schone, who scored a late consolation as the Scottish champions claimed a 2-1 Group H win at a raucous Celtic Park two weeks ago, got revenge in Amsterdam by scoring six minutes into the second half.

Another frustrating evening appeared to be in store for Frank de Boer's men after Celtic repelled wave after wave of first-half attacks, but Schone claimed the breakthrough with a wonderfully crafted effort.

A second is often necessary for Ajax but a first Champions League clean sheet in 11 attempts means they are now a point behind second-placed Milan with two games remaining, while the Bhoys are bottom and must face Milan and Barcelona.

De Boer dropped winger Viktor Fischer in favour of Davy Klaassen, while Celtic welcomed back key man Kris Commons from a hamstring injury.

Off colour both at home and abroad so far this season, the defending Dutch champions began what had been billed as a must-win assignment on the front foot, and Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster was forced to make a sharp save from Stefano Denswil's free kick.

Forster then demonstrated again just why he is being spoken about as a potential first-choice for England with a magnificent reaction stop to claw away Siem de Jong's 17th-minute header from Ricardo van Rhijn's cross.

Georgios Samaras neglected his defensive duties down the Celtic left on that occasion and the Greece forward was booked for a foul on Thulani Serero two minutes later, Forster holding on well as Denswil's resulting zipped attempt through the wall.

More stubborn defensive efforts from the visitors meant Ajax departed for half-time frustrated.

Beram Kayal spurned a rare Celtic opportunity in the 50th minute, blazing wildly over at the end of a driving run, and he was soon ruing his profligacy.

Having previously failed to find an incisive pass, Ajax strung together a slick one-touch move to break the deadlock - Schone exchanging passes with De Jong and Thulani Serero before slotting the latter's backheel past Forster.

Anthony Stokes drew a first save of the night from Jasper Cillessen as Celtic sought a quick response but they were almost 2-0 down in the 56th minute when Forster misjudged Schone's inswinging corner and Emilio Izaguirre headed off the line.

James Forrest then failed to make the most of a two-on-one counter-attack situation in Celtic's favour before Serero forced another last-ditch block from Izaguirre inside the Celtic box.

Forster denied De Jong at the end of a bustling run and Ajax ended the strongest, with Denswil heading against the post.

Celtic host AC Milan next time out before closing their group stage campaign at Camp Nou against Barcelona.

Barcelona 3-1 AC Milan: Messi catapults Catalans into last 16

    337699hp2.jpg

Lionel Messi rocketed back into goalscoring form by firing Barcelona into the knock-out stages of the Champions League in a 3-1 win over AC Milan.

The Argentina international had not scored in three games prior to the Group H clash, but he put the Catalan giants ahead after half an hour at Camp Nou, scoring from the penalty spot after Neymar had been brought down by Ignazio Abate.

Sergio Busquets headed the home side further in front nine minutes later, when he got just enough contact on an inswinging set piece from Xavi to guide the ball home and register his second goal of the season.

Milan pulled one back a minute before the break courtesy of Gerard Pique's own goal - with Kaka's cross being diverted past Victor Valdes courtesy of a ricochet off the defender.

But Messi scored his second after 83 minutes, following good link-up play with Cesc Fabregas, as Barcelona moved five points clear at the top of their group and kept up their unbeaten home record.

Carles Puyol failed to make the bench for Barca, despite having featured twice since his return from a long-term knee injury, with Javier Mascherano and Pique starting in the centre of defence for the second successive game.

Massimiliano Allegri left striker Mario Balotelli on the bench, after a run of four games without a goal, while Kaka made his 90th Champions League appearance as the coach sought to avoid a fifth successive match without a win.

The home side made much of the early running, Xavi curling a free kick just wide after three minutes, before Messi was crowded out in the area as he attempted to fashion an opportunity.

Alexis then came close to nudging home Adriano's cross after 21 minutes, but he was unable to connect at the far post.

Barca went ahead through Messi on the half-hour mark when he powered a penalty past Christian Abbiati.

Neymar was hauled down in the box by Abate as he attempted to reach a dinked Andres Iniesta throughball, with Messi keeping his cool to score his fifth goal of Barcelona's European campaign.

Riccardo Montolivo almost levelled six minutes later, flashing an effort wide of Valdes' right-hand post, but Barca continued to dominate and doubled their lead five minutes from the break.

Busquets glanced home a header from Xavi's delivery to give Abbiati no chance.

Milan, though, pulled one back in the final minute of the half, when they were given a lifeline in somewhat fortuitous circumstances as Kaka's attempted pull back clipped Pique and found its way past a wrong-footed Valdes.

Balotelli was introduced at the break and was quickly into the action, shaking off Mascherano and Adriano in the area before hitting a fierce shot that Valdes smothered.

The Italian then set up Kaka, who could only fire wide from close range, as Milan started the second half with purpose.

However, while they enjoyed plenty of possession, they failed to carve out clear-cut chances, as Barca's defence stood firm, while Neymar and Sanchez reminded Milan of their threat on the counter.

Messi completed his double and wrapped up the match seven minutes from time, finishing neatly after a clever one-two with Fabregas to put Barca on the verge of the knockout phase.

Napoli 3-2 Olympique de Marseille: Higuain seals key victory

    337677hp2.jpg

Napoli claimed an exciting 3-2 victory over Olympique de Marseille to remain in position to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League.

The French side stunned their hosts early on when Andre Ayew opened the scoring, but goals from Gokhan Inler and Gonzalo Higuain had Rafael Benitez's side ahead at the break.

Florian Thauvin levelled matters but Higuain proved the match winner.

Benitez made four changes to his Napoli side, with the likes of Inler and Dries Mertens coming in as Marek Hamsik dropped to the bench, while Marseille introduced Andre Ayew and Benoit Cheyrou.

Marseille – who entered the match on the back of a six-match winless streak - were nearly behind after just six minutes as Mertens curled just wide when sent through by Jose Callejon, but it was the French side who would take the lead four minutes later.

Andre Ayew was the scorer, rising highest to nod Thauvin's corner past Pepe Reina, and with no player on the far post, Benitez was unhappy with his side's organisation. The hosts responded strongly though, Mertens forcing Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda into a diving save, before Inler levelled in superb circumstances in the 22nd minute.

A corner – which initially saw Raul Albiol's header well saved – was not properly cleared and fell to Inler who controlled on his chest 20 yards out before lashing a left-footed volley into the bottom-right corner.

And Napoli took the lead just two minutes later when Higuain also thumped a volley past Mandanda.

Callejon crossed for Goran Pandev, his header across the face of goal was not dealt with by defender Souleymane Diawara and the ball fell kindly for the striker who scored with a powerful effort.

Jordan Ayew had a half-chance for Marseille before Higuain poked just wide with five minutes remaining as Napoli finished the first half well.Marseille improved significantly after the break with Thauvin shooting wide twice, while Dimitri Payet did the same after a mazy run.

Thauvin drew them level in the 64th minute though, stealing in behind Pablo Armero to convert Payet's cross.

Parity lasted just 11 minutes as Higuain scored again, with Mertens' clever cross easily tapped in by the striker at the far post.

Napoli substitute Lorenzo Insigne hit the post with a curling strike, but three goals were enough as they posted their fifth win in a row in all competitions.

Basel 1-1 Steaua Bucharest: Stoppage-time Sio goal salvages point for Swiss side

    337671hp2.jpg

Basel left it until stoppage-tme to salvage a 1-1 draw at home to Steaua Bucharest in Wednesday's Champions League clash.

Giovanni Sio, who had entered the field 21 minutes into the second half, dived on to a ball from Valentin Stocker in the dying stages to tap past Steaua goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu and rob the Romanians of three points.

Sio's goal came somewhat against the run of play with Steaua pacifying the hosts' threat for large periods after going ahead through Federico Piovaccari in the 17th minute.

The Italian notched his first goal in Group E after getting on the end of a fine ball from Lukasz Szukala to go one-on-one with Basel keeper Yann Sommer and fire home.

Murat Yakin made just the two changes from his Basel side's 1-1 league draw at Aarau last weekend, with Fabian Schar favoured over fellow youngster Arlind Ajeti while Stocker replaced Mohamed El Nenny.

Steaua coach Laurentiu Reghecampf, in contrast, opted to switch things up drastically from their previous Liga 1 match with forward pair Adrian Popa and Piovaccari two of the six additions. The home side enjoyed the better chances of the opening spell, and Matias Delgado had a fine chance to put them ahead after 11 minutes with a free kick from just outside the box, but he curled over the crossbar.

And they were made to rue that missed opportunity just six minutes later when Szukala's fine ball up field picked out the unmarked Piovaccari perfectly for the 29-year-old to race through and easily beat goalkeeper Sommer.

Basel tried to respond immediately and only a good save from Tatarusanu denied them an equaliser after 25 minutes as Mohamed Salah raced down the wing before seeing his square pass cut out.

The half then came to an end with a golden chance for Steaua as Sommer parried a close-range effort directly towards Florin Gardos, but the 25-year-old defender lofted his shot over the crossbar.

The break appeared to serve the hosts well though, and they came very close to pulling the game back level in the 61st minute as Fabian Frei's powerful shot from range was tipped over by the keeper.

Basel then maintained the pressure on their opponents but the final ball continued to evade them, with newcomer Sio smashing straight into Tatarusanu, shortly before Stocker's cross into the box was also blocked.

The visitors threatened to double their advantage in the final minutes too, but there was relief as Cristian Tanase fired his shot directly into Sommer.

They were eventually rewarded for the pressure in the dying stages of injury time though as Sio got on to the end of a fine ball from Stocker to fire home and ensure his team earned a point from the encounter.

Basel will now hope to go one better when they continue their campaign against Chelsea on November 26, while Steaua's hopes of going through are now slim at best.

Atletico Madrid 4-0 Austria Vienna: Atleti cruise through to Last 16

    337642hp2.jpg

Atletico Madrid ensured an emphatic victory over Austria Vienna to secure their place in the Last 16 from Group G.

Miranda, Raul Garcia and Filipe Luis all struck before half-time and a persistent Diego Costa rounded off the win late on, having previously missed from the penalty spot.

Diego Simeone's side now have an unassailable seven-point lead at the top of the group and will play in the knockout stages for the first time since 2008-09, while Vienna are still seeking their first win.

Atletico made just one change from the weekend win over Athletic Bilbao, with David Villa dropping to the bench for Raul Garcia.

Vienna named an unchanged side from the victory over Wiener Neustadt, although Alexander Grunwald, Alexander Gorgon and Marko Stankovic remained sidelined through injury.

The hosts won the corresponding fixture 3-0 in Vienna and took just over 11 minutes to break the deadlock this time around.

Vienna failed to clear a whipped corner from Koke, leaving Miranda to pounce and power home from close range.

The goal was arguably harsh on Vienna, who started the game brightly with Roman Kienast wasting a decent opportunity in the opening exchanges.

However, the visitors nearly fell further behind as Garcia dragged a shot just wide, before Costa weaved his way through the defence only to be denied by a magnificent save from Heinz Lindner.

Thibaut Courtois produced a great stop of his own at the other end, keeping out a well-struck effort from Daniel Royer in what proved a rare attack for the visitors.

Atletico continued to press and doubled their lead in the 25th minute when Garcia rose to meet Costa's teasing cross and expertly flicked a header past Lindner.

The 23-year old goalkeeper was tested again just over a minute later, tipping over a sweetly hit dipping volley from Costa.

Lindner still had to pick the ball out of the net again just before half-time, Filipe converting a simple finish after Juanfran’s scuffed shot had been palmed away.

Atletico began the second half in similarly dominant fashion, with Costa continuing to cause problems for the Vienna defence.

The Brazilian burst through several challenges before forcing Lindner into a smart save.

Vienna became noticeably frustrated at the back, giving away several free-kicks in dangerous positions as the game wore on.

They were almost made to pay just after the hour mark when an inviting ball from Koke was met by the head of Garcia, who was denied by Lindner from close range.

Costa continued his search for a goal, and was presented with a great opportunity 15 minutes from time when substitute Christian Rodriguez was brought down in the box.

The Brazilian's spot-kick was well saved by Lindner, but Costa was rewarded for his perseverance several minutes later when he found the net with a curling finish.

Borussia Dortmund 0-1 Arsenal: Ramsey secures stunning Gunners win

    337666hp2.jpg

Arsenal put themselves in a fine position to progress into the Champions League knockout stages with a shock 1-0 victory away to Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night.

The visitors took the lead in the 62nd minute with a header from Aaron Ramsey - the side's first attempt on goal - and went on to repel a late siege from Dortmund to secure a valuable three points.

Victory leaves Arsenal top of the group on nine points, while Dortmund - who were playing their 100th tie in the European Cup - slip out of the top two as a result of Napoli's win over Marseille.

Jurgen Klopp made one enforced change from the side that stormed to a 6-1 Bundesliga victory over Stuttgart on Friday, with Mats Hummels (thigh) making way for Neven Subotic.Arsenal, meanwhile, were unchanged from Saturday's 2-0 victory over Liverpool that sent them five points clear at the top of the Premier League.

It was Subotic who had Dortmund’s first meaningful shot at goal, capitalising on a poor Aaron Ramsey clearance to hook narrowly wide of Wojciech Szczesny’s right-hand post.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan spurned the best chance of the first half eight minutes from the interval as he guided the ball wide from the edge of the penalty area having collected a through-ball from Jakub Blaszczykowski.

Szczesny was called into action early in the second half as Reus got on the end of a cross from the right and forced the goalkeeper into a diving save amid some questionable marking.

Reus had the ball in the back of the net a couple of minutes later as the hosts began to find holes in the Arsenal defence. Szczesny made a superb save from Blaszczykowski, before Reus pounced on the rebound only to be deemed offside by the assistant referee.

Klopp compared Arsenal's style of play to a symphony orchestra in the build-up to this match, stating a preference for his own brand of heavy-metal football. It was his side, though, who were left singing the blues as Ramsey put the London club ahead with their first chance of the match.Mesut Ozil chipped a wonderful ball into the penalty area and Olivier Giroud got his head to it before Ramsey provided the decisive touch, nodding beyond Roman Weidenfeller.

The Welshman went close to doubling the visitors' lead four minutes later but was denied by an improvised Weidenfeller save, and Nuri Sahin was forced to clear off the line from the resulting corner. As Arsenal suddenly stepped up a gear, Per Mertesacker was next to go close, cushioning a header narrowly over the Dortmund crossbar.

Robert Lewandowski headed over in the dying minutes, but Arsenal held on for maximum points.
