Official: Rio Ferdinand joins QPR on one-year deal

    436149_heroa.jpg

Former Manchester United and England captain Rio Ferdinand has penned a one-year deal with QPR, the newly-promoted club have confirmed.

Goal reported in June that the Premier League side were closing in on the free transfer of Ferdinand following the end of his contract at Old Trafford.

Ferdinand confirmed he was to leave United in May after 12 years at the club where he made 454 appearances and won, among other honours, six Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2008.

"QPR was the first professional club to ever sign me. There are great memories for me here – for my family," he told the club's official website.

"I spoke to Harry and [chairman] Mr [Tony] Fernandes at length. I think they both looked me in the eye and knew that I still have something to offer – that I had a genuine desire to come here and play football.

"I had a lot of offers from all over the world – some in places with a better climate than here. But the draw for me was to play in the Premier League and back here where it all started.

"It’s not about money – I had loads of more lucrative offers available to me. I still feel I’ve got something to offer and I’m excited about helping this club cement its place in the Premier League."

Harry Redknapp worked with Ferdinand when the defender was just a youngster at West Ham, and the QPR manager is delighted to be reunited with the player.

"I really couldn't be more pleased," he added. "Rio's a fantastic player and a great professional – I'm delighted we've been able to bring him here.

"I signed Rio as a 14-year-old. He was class on the field and off the field then, and he's continued in that manner throughout his career.

"During his time at Manchester United, he was the best defender in Europe, if not the world.

"To bring him to QPR - when he's still got so much to offer in terms of his quality, class, experience and know-how - is a remarkable coup for the club."

Del Bosque confirms he will remain as Spain boss

    425741_heroa.jpg

Vicente del Bosque has broken his silence on his future, revealing that he intends to continue as Spain boss until Euro 2016.

La Roja endured a torrid defence of the World Cup they secured in South Africa in 2010, exiting the tournament in Brazil at the group stages after damaging 5-1 and 2-0 losses to the Netherlands and Chile respectively.

Despite the underwhelming performances that his team delivered last month, Del Bosque insists that he has no desire to step down and enjoys the continued backing of the Spanish FA.

"We can do a lot better and get back on the right lines," the 63-year-old told reporters in Spain."We will try to defend our title at the next European Championship. A drastic revolution is not necessary, instead we must continue on the same path with some minor changes."

The former Real Madrid head coach replaced Luis Aragones after Spain's Euro 2008 win, guiding them to success in both Euro 2012 and the 2010 World Cup.
"I have been in contact with the federation during this period of reflection and they have considered that the previous six years were more important than two bad matches," said Del Bosque, whose contract runs until 2016."The federation is positive and they value my work. We are feeling strong and we are going to continue with our work as before.

"We are planning the games ahead knowing that we will need to make some changes to the team as we have done in the past."

Real Madrid ready to cash in on Isco to fund James move

    388082_heroa.jpg

Real Madrid are ready to cash in on Isco this summer as they are looking to generate funds for Monaco star James Rodriguez, with Liverpool sitting in pole position to sign the former Malaga star.

The Liga giants are close to an agreement with the Ligue 1 side for the Colombia international and Isco could be sacrificed as Carlo Ancelotti aims to trim his bulging squad ahead of the 2014-15 campaign.

Monaco had informed Madrid that it would take a mega €90 million bid to land James - a figure that president Florentino Perez would be willing to pay as he looks to land his marquee Galactico signing.

With Toni Kroos having already arrived from Bayern Munich, Madrid are keen to offload some fringe players first, though.

Sami Khedira and Angel Di Maria have both been heavily linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu side, but Madrid are keen to hold on to the Germany international - irrespective of interest from Arsenal and Chelsea - while they are only willing to let go of Di Maria if an offer in the region of €60 million comes in.

    436406_heroa.jpg

sco is therefore the most likely of Madrid's talented set of midfielders to be moved on and Liverpool and Manchester City, who have a long-standing interest in the Spaniard, are closely monitoring the situation.

Manuel Pellegrini's side would be more interested in a loan deal, however, leaving Liverpool in pole position for the gifted midfielder, who only joined Madrid from Malaga last year.

The former Malaga star, who can operate in any position behind the central striker, is not keen on a bit-part role behind the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and James and could be attracted by the prospect of becoming Liverpool's main man following the departure of Suarez.

The 22-year-old has a contract with Madrid until June 2018.

Yaya Toure confirms he is staying at Manchester City

    426299_heroa.jpg

Yaya Toure has confirmed that he will stay at Manchester City this summer, putting an end to speculation surrounding his future with the Premier League champions.

The Cote d'Ivoire midfielder has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain after his agent, Dimitri Seluk, claimed that he was "bitterly upset" by the way he had been treated at City.

According to Seluk, none of the club's owners shook his hand when they travelled to the United Arab Emirates at the end of the season a short time after his 31st birthday.

Toure initially backed his agent's comments but has now told Sky Sports that he is looking forward to remaining at the Etihad Stadium for the forseeable future.

“They’ve always been good with me and my family,” he said. “I want to say [to the fans] that I will always honour my contract and stay as long as possible and don’t think about all the speculation they’ve seen saying I’ll be leaving.

"I think for what the fans have done for me, and the club as well, it’s a big pleasure to stay and continue and try to enjoy the next season.

“There are more important things than money because sometimes in life it’s ideal to be in a good way and healthy. That aspect is very important. The team is preparing well and we’ll try to win again next year.”

Seluk has also now ruled out a move for his client. "He is 100 per sent staying with City next season, not [moving to] PSG or anywhere else," he told the Manchester Evening News.

Toure signed a new deal with City a year ago and is under contract until 2017. He scored 20 league goals in 35 games as Manuel Pellegrini's team won the Premier League last season.

    Official: Ba completes Besiktas switch

    388527_heroa.jpg

Demba Ba's spell at Chelsea has come to an end after the striker signed for Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas on a four-year deal.

The Senegal international moves to the Istanbul club after struggling to establish himself as a regular at Stamford Bridge following his switch from Newcastle United in January 2013.

He made just 23 starts in all competitions at Chelsea but spoke of a desire to impress at his new club after completing his €6 million transfer.

"I've had a lot of positive feedback about Besiktas and Istanbul from my Senegalese friends in Turkey," he told the club's official website.

"I know what my coach Slaven Bilic expects from me and I am open to all sorts of competition.

"Since Besiktas fans like hard-working and spirited players, I will give everything I've got in order to not to disappoint them."

The highlight of his spell at Chelsea came as he scored the goal that put them through to the Champions League semi-finals last season, securing a 2-0 quarter-final second-leg win over Paris Saint-Germain as Jose Mourinho's men levelled the tie at 3-3 on aggregate to progress on away goals.

But, despite that pivotal contribution, Ba was unable to win over Mourinho and he will hope to have a bigger impact with Besiktas as they bid to better last term's third-place finish.

Ba scored 14 goals in 51 appearances for Chelsea.

Herrera eager to make Old Trafford debut after 'dream' Manchester United move

    428252_heroa.jpg

Ander Herrera says he cannot wait to play his first game at Old Trafford after completing a “dream” move to Manchester United earlier this summer.

Herrera will head to the United States next week for the Red Devils’ pre-season tour, with friendlies lined up against LA Galaxy, Roma, Inter and Real Madrid.

United will then return to England to host Valencia in a final friendly - with the Spanish playmaker likely to appear at home for the first time before the Premier League season begins.

“I am very excited to play at Old Trafford,” Herrera told MUTV. “I played one time here for [Athletic] Bilbao and I have good memories of this game [Bilbao won 3-2 in the Europa League] - you could say I have a 100 per cent record here!

“My first game [at home] will be against a Spanish club which is special and I'm sure it will be a special day. I can't wait.”

The 24-year-old joins fellow Spaniards David De Gea and Juan Mata at United and hopes his transition into life in the English top flight will be a relatively smooth one.

“I am very happy and really enjoying being at the club and in the city,” he said. “The first couple of weeks here have been great.

“Training has been good, similar to at [Athletic] Bilbao in that we train a lot with the ball. The coaches want us to have the ball and keep possession which is great for the players.”

“Juan and David told me United is a big club, maybe the biggest in the world and they said there is a great spirit here. I have [already] seen that. I am happy and just want to start playing now.”

Official: Quagliarella leaves Juventus for Torino

    416140_heroa.jpg

Juventus have confirmed on their official website that Fabio Quagliarella has left the club for Torino in a deal worth €3.5 million.

The Stadio Olimpico side were keen to add some experience to their squad ahead of the new season after qualifying for the Europa League and they see the 31-year-old as the perfect addition.

"Juventus Football Club can today [Friday] announce that Fabio Quagliarella has completed a permanent switch to Torino Football Club after a fee of €3.5 million, to be paid over the next three years, was agreed by both parties," a statement on the official Juve website reads.

Quagliarella has signed a contract until the summer of 2017 with the club where he started his professional career.

The attacker left Torino for Ascoli on a permanent basis in 2005 after enjoying loan spells at Fiorentina and Chieti.

He also wore the jerseys of Sampdoria, Udinese and Napoli before joining Juventus in the summer of 2010.

The former Italy international made over 100 official appearances for the Old Lady, winning three Serie A titles in the process.
