Nasri blames Deschamps and team-mates for France retirement

    443435_heroa.jpg

Samir Nasri has lashed out at Didier Deschamps and his France squad after announcing his retirement from international football.

The Manchester City ace was left out of the Bleus squad for this summer's World Cup, prompting his girlfriend to take to Twitter to slate Deschamps over her partner's exclusion.

Nasri has now admitted that he was left bitterly upset by his omission and has now decided to turn his back on France on the basis that he has neither the support of the current coach or squad.

"I've been thinking about it since the 2012 European Championship. This is just a confirmation of what I've been feeling," Nasri explained after announcing his retirement.

"Let's face it, as long as he [Deschamps] is going to be the manager, I don't think I have a shot after everything that happened.

"He said he didn't pick me for the World Cup because I wasn't happy on the bench but I don't know one player who is happy on the bench, especially when you don't understand the reason.

"It's not just about the manager. He did what he thought was best for his team at the World Cup. The press in France reported that other players were complaining about me.

"Why would I want to be in a group where other players can't even be honest and tell me to my face if they have a problem with me?"

Nasri, who was banned for three games after Euro 2012 for verbally abusing a journalist, added that there is little chance of him ever reversing his decision to retire.

"The French national team doesn't make me happy," the 27-year-old confessed. "Every time I go there, it's more trouble.

"I face accusations and my family suffer for it, and I don't want to make them suffer. I think it's wiser to stop it and focus on my club career."

Nasri was capped 41 times by his country, scoring five goals.

Galliani: Diego Lopez is Europe's top goalkeeper

    443200_heroa.jpg

AC Milan CEO Adriano Galliani has hailed imminent arrival Diego Lopez as "the strongest goalkeeper in Europe".

The Rossoneri have agreed a deal with Real Madrid for the 32-year-old, who has been relegated to third-choice at the Santiago Bernabeu, behind club captain Iker Casillas and new signing Keylor Navas.

Lopez has been left enraged by his demotion, having been coach Carlo Ancelotti's preferred No.1 in La Liga last season, and will seal a switch to San Siro on Monday.

Consequently, while the former Sevilla shot-stopper has been deemed surplus to requirements in the Spanish capital, Galliani believes that Milan have pulled off a major coup.

"He's the strongest goalkeeper in Europe," the Rossoneri CEO is quoted as saying by the Gazzetta dello Sport.

Lopez, who displaced Casillas as Madrid's first-choice goalkeeper under former Blancos boss Jose Mourinho, is set to sign a four-year contract with Milan.

'Alexis Sanchez is an animal' - Gibbs

    443422_heroa.jpg

Alexis Sanchez has been "an animal in training" since joining Arsenal from Barcelona, according to Kieran Gibbs.

Sanchez is set to make his competitive debut in Sunday's Community Shield clash with Manchester City, after reportedly arriving from Catalunya last month for an initial €36 million transfer fee.

Gibbs reckons that with the Chile international having been added to a squad already boasting the likes of Mesut Ozil, who was signed from Real Madrid 12 months ago, Arsene Wenger's men are set for a big season.

"When you face Alexis in training, you know it's not going to be the best day you have as a defender," the defender said. "He's a top player and he will definitely bring something extra to us.

"We've got an exciting team anyway and a lot of players who can make a difference in the game and when you see the likes of Mesut Ozil and Alexis coming in, it makes you feel good.

"Mesut didn't have an arrogance about him. He came in like he still had something to prove – like he wasn't world class already.

"And Alexis has the same mentality. He has been like an animal in training. He's everywhere. He just doesn't stop running."

Gibbs did not shy away from setting high targets for Alexis, who has yet to score for Arsenal in pre-season friendlies.

"Is he the 20-goal-a-season striker every team needs? Yes," the 24-year-old full-back said.

"Last season we were top for quite a while before slipping away. This year we want to do exactly the same but go a step further.

"That's what we need – we can't just sign a superstar and then say to ourselves: 'Ok, we are going to win everything now'.

"We needed them to come in with a great attitude. And that is what's happened."

    :baffled:Nasri brands Arsenal supporters 'stupid'

    443370_heroa.jpg

Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri says the abuse he receives from Arsenal supporters is "stupid" as he prepares to take on the Gunners in Sunday's Community Shield showdown.

The French playmaker has been targeted by the north London club's supporters ever since his big-money switch to the Etihad in 2011 - with many believing the move was financially motivated.

But Nasri has hit back at the taunts ahead of Wembley's showpiece, claiming he was never in love with Arsenal and that he left the club to further his career.

"I just think the abuse I get is stupid. I'm not an Arsenal fan, I am not from London," the 27-year-old told reporters.

"To be honest, we are players and we are just looking at what are the best interests for us and our careers.

"When Manchester City came for me it was the best choice to come here. Since coming to City I have won trophies and I have a better life so I am really happy about everything.

"If the fans can't move on it's too bad. I am not trying to have a problem with that. They do what they have to do and they love their club.

"They see that as a treason or that I betrayed them but it's not that.

"I'm not like that. I just look what's best for me and that's what Bacary Sagna did, what Emmanuel Adebayor did and what Kolo Toure did.

"For the fans, the only reason has to be for the money. But it isn't just for the money.

"Of course, it's a factor and it's important. But if someone earns £200,000-a-week (€240,000), £150,000 (€190,000) or £100,000-a-week (€120,000), it's not that which is going to make a difference or an impact on your life, so that's not true."

:)'We don't yet have a Di Maria' - Van Gaal talks up Manchester United target

    413404_heroa.jpg

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has hinted that the club could launch a bid for Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria.

Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young and Nani are the only recognised senior wide playes at the Dutchman's disposal leading into the 2014-15 campaign, and the trio have yet to fully prove themselves at Old Trafford.

Di Maria - who is reportedly surplus to requirements at Madrid following James Rodriguez's arrival from Monaco - appeared destined for Paris-Saint Germain, only for the French champions to end negotiations after being priced out of a deal.

The collapse of Argentine's proposed move to Parc des Princes has opened the door for United, and Van Gaal has dropped a major hint that the club could launch a bid for Die Maria due to a lack of depth out wide.

"At this moment, we have five No. nines and four No. 10s – and we don't have wingers to give us attacking width," the former Netherlands coach told reporters.

"Or, I should say, we don't have wingers of the highest level, like Ronaldo or Di Maria or somebody like that.

"So, I have to play in another way – and you have seen that already. I only buy when I think we need to buy – in the position that is necessary."

Left-back Luke Shaw and central midfielder Ander Herrera have already arrived at Old Trafford but Van Gaal is still eyeing reinforcements.

Netherlands international and Ajax defender Daley Blind is reportedly on Van Gaal's list of targets as he attempts to bolster his defence and the 63-year-old insists he would have no problem recruiting Dutch players.

"If they are at the level I want them to be, then I will sign Dutch players," he said. "Nationality isn't something that concerns me.

"But Dutch players are usually cheaper than players of other nationalities and they have usually been very well educated in the Netherlands, I believe.

"But they have to be of a level than can play well in the English Premier League. You have to ask if that is the case with every player."

Arsenal 3-0 Man City: Gunners fire early title warning

    443562_heroa.jpg

Goals from Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud gave Arsenal claim the Community Shield with a convincing 3-0 win over Premier League champions Manchester City.

Cazorla opened the scoring with a well-taken finish in the first half which comfortably beat Caballero, before Ramsey doubled the lead before-half time.

City rallied for a brief spell after the break following the introduction of David Silva, but Giroud sealed the win shortly after the hour mark with his deflected effort.

Injuries and late returns from World Cup commitments combined to leave City without seven of the XI that sealed a second Premier League title in three seasons with a final-day win over West Ham in May.

Arsenal were also missing several of their main men, with Per Mertesacker, Mesut Ozil and Lukas Podolski, who helped Germany triumph in Brazil, unavailable.

It was Arsenal who acquitted themselves to far greater effect in the first half, as new signing Alexis Sanchez, Jack Wilshere, Ramsey and Cazorla all buzzed inventively behind Yaya Sanogo.

Arsenal dominated the opening exchanges but clear chances evaded them and it required a last-ditch challenge from Mathieu Debuchy to prevent Samir Nasri from breaking the deadlock against his former club in the 14th minute.

That chance did nothing to turn the tide for the Premier League champions, for whom Yaya Toure and Fernando were being badly overrun in midfield and the opening goal stemmed from Arsenal exploiting generous amounts of space in front of City's back four.

Wilshere went to ground under a 21st-minute challenge from Dedryck Boyata but the ball broke to Cazorla on the edge of the box, who shifted the ball onto his left foot to finish clinically.

Arsenal debutant Calum Chambers then made a timely intervention to deny Nasri with the goal gaping on the end of Aleksandar Kolarov's 39th-minute cross, but Wenger's men grabbed a deserved second three minutes before the interval.

City were torn apart on the break and Ramsey collected Sanogo's pass, evaded Matija Nastasic with a cute touch and slotted home.

Sanchez had chances to extend the advantage in stoppage time and a ragged City backline were relieved to hear referee Michael Oliver's half-time whistle.

Silva's impact was instant as City resumed on the front foot and Stevan Jovetic headed against the post from Jesus Navas's 51st-minute centre before blazing the rebound off target.

Jovetic then received Kolarov's cutback to draw a sharp near-post stop from Wojciech Szczesny - in what was the Arsenal goalkeeper's first save of note.

But Arsenal sealed victory in style after the hour, as substitute Giroud lashed a dipping 25-yard strike beyond Caballero's despairing dive, to lay down an early marker ahead of the new season.

    Atletico Madrid launch Jimenez bid

    443532_heroa.jpg

Atletico Madrid have launched a bid for Mexico striker Raul Jimenez as they bid to further bolster their attacking ranks.

The sale of Diego Costa to Chelsea saw Mario Mandzukic arrive from Bayern Munich, but following a pre-season in which goals have been hard to come by, Atleti are set to dip into the transfer market again.

America president Jose Romano revealed the Spanish side had made an offer for Jimenez, a member of his country's World Cup squad, but will put the decision in the hands of the club's fans.He said: "We had an Atletico de Madrid offer for Raul Jimenez, but we will not accept or reject it, as we want to gather our fans' opinion regarding this."If the offer is good, I guess the player will leave."

Jimenez, 23, who scored 30 goals across the previous two Liga MX campaigns and has four to his name already in 2014-15, has talked up a potential move to the Vicente Calderon having faced Atletico in pre-season.

He is quoted by Marca as saying: "It is a dream, something I've always wanted. I've been given the opportunity and I want to take it."They are the champions of Spain and I want to go on to win a spot."

Juventus have heavy legs - Allegri

    443508_heroa.jpg

Massimiliano Allegri said Juventus had "heavy legs" after beating the A-League All-Stars side 3-2 in Sydney on Sunday.

The hosts - who boasted Juve legend Alessandro Del Piero in their ranks - took the lead through Marcelo Carrusca on nine minutes, before Fernando Llorente levelled in the second half.

But the Bianconeri again fell behind when Tomi Juric found the back of the net on 77 minutes, only to be saved by late goals from Paul Pogba and Simone Pepe.

The game was part of Juve's Asia-Pacific tour and Allegri admitted his players were feeling the physical effects of several days of tough work.

He said: "We made too many mistakes, at an individual level and not just in defence. But the boys had heavy legs because of the hard work done in Sydney over the last two days.

"Of course, we still lack a bit of rhythm before we start Serie A but we are working well and working hard to get there."

Juve kick off the defence of their Serie A title with a clash against Chievo on August 30.
