    QPR offer Remy new deal

    446812_heroa.jpg

QPR have offered Loic Remy a new contract but the striker remains hopeful of completing a move to a big club before the transfer window closes.

Remy looked set to join Liverpool earlier this summer but his transfer to Anfield collapsed amid reports of a failed medical.

Goal understands the France international is now in talks with QPR over a new deal but the 27-year-old will wait until after the transfer window closes before committing to the west London outfit.

Chelsea enquired about the France international earlier this summer after Didier Drogba picked up an injury in pre-season and could reignite their interest should Fernando Torres, as expected, complete his move to AC Milan.

Drogba has since recovered from that injury and made an emotional second debut for the club in their 2-0 win over Cardiff but Chelsea’s striking options have been further limited by the hamstring strain that Diego Costa suffered in midweek.

Newcastle also maintain an interest in the striker, who spent last season on loan at St James's Park and scored 14 goals in 28 appearances for Alan Pardew’s side.

QPR boss Harry Redknapp has gone from wanting Remy off the wage bill to welcoming him back into his squad with open arms - the striker has started both of his side's Premier League matches so far this season.

The Rs are now hoping to tie Remy down to a new long-term contract but will have to wait until after September 1 for the player to sign.

Hull City closing on Abel Hernandez deal

    440833_heroa.jpg

Hull City manager Steve Bruce has revealed that Palermo striker Abel Hernandez has agreed personal terms with the Tigers and passed a medical.

Bruce turned his attention to the Uruguay international after Blackburn rebuffed the Premier League side's offers for Jordan Rhodes.

He told reporters: "Things are advancing quickly with Hernandez and we have to get bits and pieces done. We are trying hard.

"The medical is okay and the personal terms, we just have to iron out one or two issues. He has a work permit appeal on Friday and we will see how we get on."

The Tigers have also been linked with Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley, who is also reportedly a target for Everton, Aston Villa and Valencia, as well as West Ham's Mohamed Diame and Bruce stated after watching his side lose on away goals to Lokeren that his transfer plans would not be affected by their early European exit.

"Always our focus is on the Premier League and you have to build a squad for that, whether we were going through in Europe or not," he added.

Besiktas make move for Newcastle outcast Ben Arfa

    436829_heroa.jpg

Besiktas have made a move for Hatem Ben Arfa as he looks to end his Newcastle nightmare, Goal understands.

The French playmaker has not started a competitive game for the club since being replaced at half-time in the 4-0 defeat to Southampton on March 29 and has been frozen out of the first team squad this season by Alan Pardew.

The 27-year-old was a firm fan favourite after moving to St James' Park from Marseille in 2010 but Pardew has decided that the playmaker is now surplus to requirements.

Ben Arfa has rebuffed interest from clubs in the Middle East this summer and Turkish club Besiktas have now opened talks to take the forward to Istanbul.

The Frenchman's former Newcastle team-mate, Demba Ba, who left Chelsea for Besiktas in an €10 million deal this summer, is understood to have recommended him to coach Slaven Bilic.

Besiktas are now hopeful that they can complete a deal to sign Ben Arfa as they look to mount a title challenge this season following their elimination from the Champions League at the hands of Arsenal.

Rojo work permit taking longer than expected, admits Van Gaal

    447184_heroa.jpg

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal admits that it is taking longer than he had expected for Marcos Rojo to secure a work permit.

The Argentine defender was confirmed as a United player earlier in August in a move that saw winger Nani rejoin Sporting on loan until the end of the season.

Rojo has been unable to make his debut for the Premier League club as yet due to red tape, with passport issues dragging the process out.

"Rojo is working on his permit because he has to go abroad for that," Van Gaal explained to the press.

"The difference between fellow new signing Angel Di Maria and Rojo is that he has an Italian passport and Rojo does not.

"He only has an Argentine passport. Now he is abroad in Madrid to work it out at the embassy but it takes more time than we expected."

Di Maria, a British-record signing from Real Madrid and a fellow Argentine, is poised to make his United debut at Burnley on Saturday.

Reus & Gomez make Germany comeback

    429649_heroa.jpg

Germany coach Joachim Low has included Marco Reus and Mario Gomez in his 21-man squad for the upcoming international friendly against Argentina on and the Euro 2016 qualifier against Scotland.

Reus was part of the provisional squad for this summer's World Cup, but was forced to pull out due to injury, while Gomez was left out as Low opted to call up Miroslav Klose as his sole striker.

Both now make their comeback to the national team, though, as the world champions prepare to take on the South Americans on September 3 in a rematch of the final in Brazil, before locking horns with Scotland four days later.

The biggest surprise in Low's squad is Stuttgart defender Antonio Rudiger, who is one of the candidates to take Lahm's place at right-back.

Germany are without Philipp Lahm, Per Mertesacker and Klose, who all decided to retire from international duty after this summer's tournament.

Other absentees include Shkodran Mustafi and Bastian Schweinsteiger, who are both not fully match fit.

Goalkeepers: Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich), Roman Weidenfeller (Borussia Dortmund), Ron-Robert Zieler (Hannover)

    Defenders:
Jerome Boateng (Bayern Munich), Erik Durm (Borussia Dortmund), Matthias Ginter (Borussia Dortmund), Kevin Grosskreutz (Borussia Dortmund), Benedikt Howedes (Schalke), Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund), Antonio Rudiger (Stuttgart)

    Midfielders:
Julian Draxler (Schalke), Mario Gotze (Bayern Munich), Christoph Kramer (Borussia Monchengladbach), Toni Kroos (Real Madrid), Sami Khedira (Real Madrid), Mesut Ozil (Arsenal)

Attackers: Lukas Podolski (Arsenal), Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund), Andre Schurrle (Chelsea), Mario Gomez (Fiorentina), Thomas Muller (Bayern Munich)

I warned Shaw about his fitness during the World Cup - Hodgson

    450036_heroa.jpg

Roy Hodgson admits that he was concerned about Luke Shaw's fitness during England's World Cup campaign before Louis van Gaal publicly raised the issue during Manchester United's pre-season tour.

The 19-year-old joined Old Trafford in a €38 million deal from Southampton this summer but Van Gaal declared that the left-back "is not very fit" during his side's tour of the United States in July.

Shaw was forced to train on his own in order to improve his fitness before he picked up a hamstring injury which ruled him out of the start of the Premier League season and Hodgson has revealed that the left-back's fitness levels were questioned while England were in Brazil, though noting that the youngster's body has yet to fully develop.

"I must say, watching him play in the matches for Southampton, he didn't seem to have too many problems coping with the physical side of the game but that doesn't mean to say he can't be fitter and if Louis thinks that he can get him fitter then I'm sure he will certainly have our approval," Hodgson told reporters.

"I think when [Van Gaal] talks to [former Saints boss Mauricio] Pochettino then Pochettino will say to him: 'What you were saying to Luke Shaw and what you've been saying to him is what I was actually saying to him.'

"He might have had it mentioned to him a couple of times during the World Cup when we were together by people like myself and [England head physio] Gary Lewin.

"So I think he's been aware of it, Luke, and he will get fitter and stronger, not least of all because he's still a very young man and his body has not yet reached its proper proportions for the level he wants to play at."

    Ba: I wanted Arsenal move

    446621_heroa.jpg

Demba Ba came close to leaving Chelsea for Arsenal and still wanted to join the Gunners this summer before making the move to Besiktas.

The Gunners looked set to sign the striker on loan during the January transfer window last season but the deal fell through, with Blues boss Jose Mourinho unwilling to strengthen a rival club without having sufficient cover.

Ba eventually made an €10 million move to Besiktas, who were narrowly beaten 1-0 over two legs by the Gunners in a Champions League play-off.

"I'm happy at Besiktas," he told reporters after the game. "How close did I come to joining Arsenal? As close as you and me here, but it's past. I just look forwards.

"Everybody knew that I wanted to come here [to Arsenal]. I could have maybe waited longer in this transfer window but I wanted to go and play for Besiktas because it's a great club."

Despite Mourinho's unwillingness to let Ba join Arsenal last January, the striker says that the Blues boss would have sanctioned a switch to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

"Yes, [he would have let me join Arsenal], because this time Jose told me," he explained. "Last summer he wanted to keep me,but he said this time, if I had any opportunity, he would let me go."

Juventus are Scudetto favourites, says Conte

    446495_heroa.jpg

Italy coach Antonio Conte believes that Juventus are the team to beat in the race for the Serie A title this term, but stresses that Roma, Napoli and Inter are all genuine contenders.

Conte guided Juventus to three consecutive Scudetti before stepping down this summer and a lot of pundits feel they are significantly weaker heading into the new campaign under new boss Massimiliano Allegri.

Conte, though, has little doubt that the titleholders can be progress even further under the new coach.

"Juventus are definitely stronger than last season and have moved forward again. If they don't lose any players in the closing stages of the window, they have strengthened their team well," Conte told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Their key players have stayed put and some good players have come in like [Roberto] Pereyra, Romulo and [Alvaro] Morata, and not to forget the experience of [Patrice] Evra.

"Roma have done a great job at the transfer market as well and they come off the back of an important season. I think [Rudi] Garcia has a number of solutions and options now.

"And then there's Napoli of course, who will have to overcome the disappointment of missing out on the Champions League.

"Inter should not be ruled out either. They have strengthened in all areas and have decisive players all over the pitch. They could spring a surprise in the race for the title."

Juventus kick off the new Serie A season on Saturday with an away game versus Chievo.

Benatia is the ideal defender, says Toni

    449061_heroa.jpg

Former Bayern Munich striker Luca Toni has hailed Mehdi Benatia and believes the Morocco international is just the defender the Bundesliga champions needed.

The 27-year-old joined Bayern from Roma this week for a transfer fee which could rise to €30m and is expected to slot into the team immediately with Javi Martinez out injured until at least the turn of the year.

And Toni is confident that the centre-back will make an instant impact at his new club.

"When someone is a great player, it is always hard to define exactly why he is such a good player," Toni was quoted as saying by Sport Bild.

"It's all pretty clear with Benatia, though. He's got it all.

"He is very strong, he is tall and he is fast. He always finds himself in the right position and is tactically strong as well."

Benatia had only joined Roma from Udinese in the summer of 2013, but his good performances last season earned him the interest of top teams such as Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea, but he eventually opted to join Bayern.

The former Olympique de Marseille man signed a five-year deal with the Bavarians and will be wearing the No.5 jersey at his new club.

Everton would have paid €125m for Lukaku, says Roberto Martinez

    450038_heroa.jpg

Everton manager Roberto Martinez says that he “would have paid €125 million” to buy Romelu Lukaku.

After a successful season on loan at Goodison Park, the Belgium international made the permanent switch to the Toffees this summer, leaving Chelsea in a €35m deal.

And the Spaniard is adamant that he has not overpaid for the striker, arguing that securing the right personality to take the team forward can be priceless.

"It's not about the value," Martinez told reporters. "I would have paid €125m for Lukaku. If I had the money, yes, why not?

"The figure is insignificant. It is about the character and type of player you want in the group.

"Sometimes a player at €4m can be an expensive buy and sometimes a player at €35m can be a very cheap buy."

Lukaku will face his old club when Chelsea go to Merseyside on Saturday but Martinez does not believe that the chance to prove a point to Jose Mourinho will affect how seriously the striker takes the match.

He remarked of the idea: "I know what you are saying. My answer is, of course, he is human and, leading up to the game, people will say 'you are facing your old team-mates and manager'. That's normal.

"But what I am saying is that his level of performance will not change from against Arsenal or Leicester.

"He is not going through the motions, he is raising his levels for every game. Every game he is fresh so I do not see any difference at all for this game."

Official: Xabi Alonso joins Bayern Munich

    449713_heroa.jpg

Bayern Munich have confirmed the signing of Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso for an estimated €10 million.

The 32-year-old has put pen to paper on a deal which is set to see him reside at the Allianz Arena under former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola until 2016.

Alonso, who retired from Spain duty on Wednesday following World Cup 2014's group stage exit, had been with the reigning European champions since joining for an undisclosed fee from Liverpool five years ago.

Madrid had brought on board Toni Kroos from Bayern and James Rodriguez from Monaco as midfield options, prompting Alonso to request a transfer late in the window after losing his starting berth.

He will provide central midfield reinforcements for the Bavarians, who are currently without Javi Martinez, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Thiago Alcantara due to injury.

Former Bayern midfielder Luiz Gustavo, part of the Brazil squad which reached the World Cup semi-finals before humiliation at the hands of Germany, is set to leave Wolfsburg to replace Alonso at the Santiago Bernabeu.

:love:Ronaldo: Di Maria will shine at Manchester United

    449805_heroa.jpg

Cristiano Ronaldo has tipped former Real Madrid team-mate Angel Di Maria to succeed at Manchester United.

The Argentine sealed a British-record transfer to Old Trafford on Tuesday after falling down the pecking order at Carlo Ancelotti's side and has been given his colleague's old No.7 jersey.

Ronaldo, who spent six trophy-laden seasons with United, believes that the move is exactly what Di Maria needs and is confident that he can help United to turn around their poor start to the Premier League season.

"It's good for him," the Madrid star told reporters of Di Maria. "Manchester [United] is one of the best clubs in the world, will be good for him and I wish the best of luck for him.

"He deserves it, he's a fantastic player. He's going to do well in Manchester United.

"I said to him, 'No.7 is a big responsibility', but I think he will be able to take that shirt because he's a fantastic player."

Di Maria has spoken of his desire to emulate Ronaldo and do justice to the No.7 shirt, though he has admitted that he had not wanted to leave the Santiago Bernabeu.

Alonso: Kroos arrival didn't force me out of Real Madrid

    449713_heroa.jpg

New Bayern Munich signing Xabi Alonso has insisted that he did not decide to leave Real Madrid because of the arrival of Toni Kroos earlier this summer, but opted to move on because he needed a new challenge.

The former Spain international had lost his starting berth at Madrid following the signing of Kroos and James Rodriguez, yet Alonso has stressed that he was not afraid of the competition for places.

"The club did not want me to leave. It was my own decision. After winning La Decima, I felt I needed a new challenge. I felt that the time had come to go," Alonso said at a press conference.

"I did not decide to leave because of the arrival of Kroos. Madrid have made a great signing with him. We would both have played a lot.

"I am not upset or anything. Signing Kroos was a well-though decision that I respect. Madrid have a great team and can fight for all titles.

"I need a certain motivation to get the best out of myself. Winning La Decima was that motivation at Madrid, but I needed a change to reach my peak again. The time was right to move on.

"Bayern were the best option for me. We will be challenging for all titles and I cannot wait to get started. Bayern are on par with Madrid."

The 32-year-old has signed a two-year deal with Bayern.

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri has confirmed that Arturo Vidal will not be joining Manchester United this summer and is staying in Turin.
The Chile international midfielder has been linked with the 20-time top flight champions all summer, with new boss Louis van Gaal himself admitting to being a fan of the 27-year-old.

"He's a fundamental player for Juve and he will stay with us," Allegri said in a press conference."He feels good and is training."His knee must be managed and he will start as a regular."

On the eve of the opening round of Serie A fixtures, Vidal has tweeted a message to his fans, and seems focused on helping The Old Lady retain the Scudetto."Ready to start the Championship!" Vidal said.
