I won't leave Napoli in January, says Mertens

    713212_heroa.jpg

Dries Mertens insists he has no intention of leaving Napoli during the January transfer window amid reports linking him with a move to Schalke.

The Belgium international has struggled to hold down a regular start at San Paolo this season as head coach Rafael Benitez juggles his squad selection to compete in three competitions.

Mertens would like to play more for the Serie A club, but understands the reasoning behind Benitez's rotation policy and says he is not considering an exit.

"Of course I want to play more, but I do understand where coach Benitez is coming from," the 27-year-old told Het Nieuwsblad.

"If you are a wide attacker in Italy, you need to do a lot of defending and running, so that is very exhausting. Therefore the coach rotates constantly.

"This week even Gonzalo Higuain was on the bench, so that says something. And the club is also apparently very satisfied. I really see no reason to move.

"I am not going to leave Napoli for another club during the January transfer window."

'Madrid have signed a diamond in Lucas Silva'

    853062_heroa.jpg

Cruizeiro coach Marcelo Oliveira has told Real Madrid counterpart Carlo Ancelotti he has signed a "diamond" in Lucas Silva.

The Champions League holders reportedly beat off strong competition to land the 21-year-old midfielder, who is expected to be used as an understudy to Germany star Toni Kroos at the Santiago Bernabeu.

But Oliveira has tipped Brazil Under-21 international Silva to shine in Madrid and challenge for a spot in Ancelotti's first team sooner rather than later."He [Lucas] is very happy as one of his dreams has come true. Ancelotti has got a real diamond," Oliveira told AS.

"He is a technical player with good vision, he can make precise 30- or 40-metre passes and has a strong shot. He will push those already in his position."He will need to adapt now to a new formation but I am sure he will develop alongside the quality at Real Madrid."

Silva is Madrid's second new recruit of the January transfer window after they also signed Norwegian wonderkid Martin Odegaard from from Stromsgodset on Thursday.

I could return to Juventus - Conte

    741252_heroa.jpg

Former Juventus coach Antonio Conte admits he cannot rule out the chance of a future return to the club.

The 45-year-old led the Old Lady to three consecutive Serie A titles before departing Turin and taking up the reigns of the Italian national team last year.

Conte, who made over 500 appearances for the club as a player, shocked Europe with his sudden resignation in July last year, arriving just one day into pre-season training.

"It was not a decision I made as a bolt from the blue,” he told Tuttosport.

“I think I chose with my head more than my heart, because my heart would have told me to go on and on with Juve.

“It was a decision at the conclusion of three very intense years, which took a huge physical and mental toll, especially for me.

“We had to oust a strong team like Milan, who had Thiago Silva and [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic, in addition to the old guard.

“[Will I come back to Juve?] Let's see, never say never.

"I am bound to this city through intense relationships: I spent 16 years as a player and as a coach.”

Juventus lead Serie A by five points after 19 games under new coach Massimiliano Allegri.

Falcao will join the best, but Madrid have Benzema – Mendes

    828302_heroa.jpg

Jorge Mendes says Falcao’s next club will be one of the seven best in the world - but not Real Madrid.

The Colombia international joined Manchester United on loan from Monaco this past summer, but has started just eight of the club’s 22 Premier League matches this season.

And agent Mendes has expressed his disappointment at coach Louis Van Gaal’s reluctance to make the 28-year-old a vital part of his side, hinting that Falcao will likely be on the move again when his loan deal expires in June.

"I would have liked it if Falcao was with [former Man Utd manager] Sir Alex Ferguson,” Mendes told La Sexta.

“He is a player to play 90 minutes and I don’t understand [why he isn’t].

"Falcao will play for one of the seven best [teams] in the world next, but Real Madrid have Benzema.”

Madrid were interested in Falcao prior to his reported €60 million move to Monaco in the summer of 2013, but city rivals Atletico were reluctant to do business.

Mendes also said he expects Portugal international Pepe to remain with Madrid through next season.

“Pepe will have much more time in Madrid,” Mendes said, “Because last year the president had the chance to sell [him to Manchester City] and did not.”

Moyes admits Real Sociedad interest in Illarramendi return

    457266_heroa.jpg

Real Sociedad coach David Moyes admits he would love to see Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi return to the club.

The 24-year-old left San Sebastian to join Madrid in July 2013 in a deal worth as much as €39 million, but the Spain youth international has struggled to hold down a first-team place at the Bernabeu.

Illarramendi maintains his intention is to remain in the Spanish capital but as speculation over his future increases, Moyes insists he would welcome to the player back to San Sebastian.

"I know the player and his qualities well. When I was at Everton I looked at him,” said Moyes.

“It seems that Real Madrid don't want to use him and I'd be delighted if he came here, but we need all the information from Madrid so that we can see what might happen."

Illarramendi has started just three of Madrid’s 18 Liga games this season and, despite coach Carlo Ancelotti vowing the club are “not thinking about Illarra leaving", he appears set to be further marginalised following the capture of Brazilian Lucas Silva this week.

Real Sociedad and Moyes are desperate to add to a squad that has picked up just 19 points at the halfway stage of the Liga campaign, and have also been linked to Arsenal’s Joel Campbell and Burnley forward Danny Ings.

'Pogba could be the world's most expensive player'

    831802_heroa.jpg

Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has the potential to become the world's most expensive footballer, according to agent Mino Raiola, who has suggested the France international could move in the summer.

The 21-year-old, who is one of the highest-rated youngsters in world football, has been linked with a number of clubs since his move to Turin two and a half years ago and most recently there has been strong reported interest from Chelsea, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and former club Manchester United.

If any of these clubs were to move for him, though, they may find themselves needing to pay a record fee.

"I have been in football long enough to say that I cannot foresee the future," Raiola told Sky Sports. "Today Paul Pogba is the most expensive player if he were on the market - that’s the risk, that’s normal; there are only a few clubs that can afford him.

"Let’s say that I am aware of the interest that there is around Paul, obviously, and without naming them, everybody that knows a little bit about football knows that there are only eight clubs that can afford him. That’s the eight clubs that will get into the scramble or the battle to have him."

However, his agent has insisted that Pogba will not be departing the Scudetto holders this month, though the France international's future beyond that seems much more up in the air.

"Paul renewed his contract in Italy. There is a five-year deal with Juventus and what June and July brings, we will see in June and July.

"He will stay here this window in Italy and after that it’s also up to Juventus and up to himself to see what are the possibilities and what are the things to do."

Pogba's departure from Old Trafford in 2012 was acrimonious, leaving on a Bosman free transfer after becoming frustrated at the lack of first-team opportunities Sir Alex Ferguson was giving him, but Raiola insists the bridges with Manchester United are not at all burnt.

"Paul has always said he is not angry with Manchester United - you need to move on," the Frenchman's representative added. "So there is no personal grudge against Manchester United. On the contrary, he holds Manchester United very dear and has very nice memories."

‘Manchester United are interested in Marquinhos’

    509071_heroa.jpg

Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Marquinhos is the subject of transfer interest from Manchester United, the player's agent Giuliano Bertolucci has confirmed.

The 20-year-old defender has struggled for playing time behind Thiago Silva and David Luiz at the Parc des Princes this season and has even been used as a right-back at times by head coach Laurent Blanc.

His current situation has resulted in speculation he could leave the club and move to Old Trafford, with the Premier League side in need of defensive reinforcements, an eventuality his representative has refused to rule out.

“A number of clubs are asking about him; Manchester United are amongst them,” Bertolucci confirmed to Le Parisien.

“He respects the decisions of his coach but he simply wants to play more and spend less time with the substitutes.

“He’s ready to play right-back or defensive midfield if he must. He’s already done it with Roma and even Brazil.

“He will become the best defender in the world. He’s just as good as Thiago Silva and David Luiz.”

Marquinhos has made over 50 first-team appearances for PSG since making a move worth an estimated €31.4 million from Roma in the summer of 2013.

PSG are not ready to allow the youngster to depart, with their asking price reportedly set at a world-record €150m.

Villarreal confirm Arsenal deal for Gabriel

    843332_heroa.jpg

Villarreal have announced they have agreed a deal with Arsenal for the sale of centre-back Gabriel Paulista, with Joel Campbell set to move the opposite way on loan.

Goal reported earlier this week that the Gunners were confident of pushing through a deal for the Brazilian, despite the likelihood that he will fail to get a British work permit at the first time of asking.

And the Spanish club have now Tweeted that a move is in place : "Deal agreed with Arsenal for Gabriel, who will say goodbye today before the match [against Levante]. Good luck!"

The Yellow Submarine also confirmed that they will take Costa Rica international Campbell on loan at El Madrigal until the end of the season: "Welcome Joel Campbell! Loan deal agreed with Arsenal until the end of the season."

The 22-year-old had hoped to break into the Arsenal line-up this season, but has seen just 41 minutes of Premier League action, with Alexis Sanchez, Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud providing fierce competition.

Gabriel will become the Londoners' second January signing, after 17-year-old Pole Krystian Bielik was brought in on Friday.

Disgraced & ashamed: Mourinho crestfallen after Chelsea humiliation

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has admitted he is "ashamed" after his side were knocked out of the FA Cup by League One side Bradford.

Goals from Gary Cahill and Ramires had put the Blues two ahead in the first half before an unbelievable comeback by Phil Parkinson's side saw them score four times to claim a memorable 4-2 win.

Mourinho had commented prior to the match that a defeat at Stamford Bridge would be a "disgrace" and he pulled no punches in his assessment of the humbling after the game.

He told reporters: "In this moment, I feel happy for them [Bradford]. But I feel ashamed. And I think the players should feel the same.

"I repeat the words that I used yesterday. 'In case we lose, it is a disgrace.' It is a disgrace.

"It is unacceptable to lose to a team from a lower league. If I was you I would be very critical with the Chelsea manager and players.

"In an ideal world this will affect us in a positive way. We have to win the next match."
