I am interested in visiting the USA or Australia. For sight seeing.

Usually you have to convince the embassies that you are not going to stay there and you have to come back to Sri Lanka because you have your properties, job, business or anything which requires you to be here in Sri Lanka. I'm not quite sure but you will have to prove that you have enough money to spend during this tour.

Visas are kind of restricted for younger crowd.

You have to be doing a good job or studying an course for several years.

You have to have ties to Sri lanka like personal property, sister, mother, other things tied up to Sri Lanka

You have to have good spending money while overseas (about 1 million if trip is short)

Other ties and your personality and everything will come into play.
