    Capt. Shavantha and Capt. Ranjith...
Captain Ranjit Pedris and Captain Shavantha Pedris became the first father and son to become Captains at the same time for Sri Lankan aviation. Captain Ranjit is the second most senior Captain at SriLankan Airlines. He was one of the airline's pioneering flight crew, joining what was then Air Lanka, as a First Officer from Air Ceylon where he had started his career, and being confirmed as Captain in 1985.
A visibly delighted Capt Ranjit Pedris said, "it is an extraordinary feeling to witness my son becoming a Captain of the airline which has been an integral part of my life for more than 30 years."
Capt Shavantha Pedris joined the airline as a Cadet Pilot in 2002 and after six years carried out his first command flight on an Airbus A320 on 18th January 2010. Capt. Shavantha 30, added "I have flown five flights up to now as First Officer with my father as Captain, and each one was very special."

DidYouKnow Inspired by birds, the wings of the A350 XWB have been designed to adapt during the flight, morphing while airborne, changing their shape to reduce fuel burn.

Emirates Airbus A380 EK201 declares emergency travelling over UK

    Flight diverted after declaring emergency

A huge passenger jet is being forced to make an emergency landing in Manchester.

The Emirates Airbus A380 Flight EK201 had left Dubai this morning and was bound for JFK Airport in New York.

However, as the plane coasted at around 38,000ft above Scotland this afternoon, it reported an emergency and is now headed to Manchester Airport.

The diversion is the latest in a series of air emergencies reported following the tragic crashing of a Germanwings flight from Barcelona to Dusseldorf.

The plane is scheduled to land in Manchester at around 2.30pm this afternoon.

According to reports online, the Airline reported the incident as a medical emergency, but no further details have been given.
