    Pogba wants Barcelona, says Laporta

    paul-pogba-serie-a-juventus_1kkz7yjw762t1odznju8sta7t.jpg

Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta is confident Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba would be open to a move to the Camp Nou side.

The 22-year-old France international is widely regarded as one of the most exciting players around in the game and has been linked with a move away from Turin on more than one occasion, despite a contract with the Serie A champions that runs until June 2019.

Barca are among the teams that have shown an interest in signing Pogba and Laporta has hinted he is ready to make a move if he becomes club president again.
"Pogba would be a great signing," Laporta told Catalunya Radio."He really is a very strong player. He is still young and has the desire to join Barcelona.

"I have a great relationship with his agent Mino Raiola. If we decide to try to sign Pogba, he will definitely be a great intermediary."

Laporta faces competition from current boss Josep Bartomeu as well as Jordi Majo and Agusto Benedito in the race for the Barcelona presidency.
He previously ruled the Catalans between 2003 and 2010.

Kane defends England flops: We didn't let ourselves down

    harry-kane-fights-for-the-ball-with-daniele-rugani-england-italy-u21-championship-240615_1cfwgfhj90wrl1frz43q70pr7z.png

Harry Kane is adamant that England did themselves no injustice at the European Under-21 Championship - despite going out at the group stage.

A 3-1 defeat by Italy on Wednesday spelled the end for Gareth Southgate's side in the Czech Republic, with a wasteful performance playing into the hands of qualifiers Sweden and Portugal.

The Tottenham striker, however, refutes suggestions that his team came in unprepared for the tournament and is keen to focus on what they can learn from the experience.

Kane told talkSPORT: "We couldn't have prepared any better. We all knew what we had to do and we were all looking forward to it.

"I don't think we have let ourselves down at all. We tried to play the right way but things just haven't gone for us.

"That's tournament football; we've got to learn to do better in them and start winning games – and learn how to cross the line even when we aren't playing well. We did that against Sweden but [against Italy] it didn't go well for us.

"It hurts but we are young players and we have to learn.

"With two goals in three games you can't expect to go through against the top eight sides in Europe."

:angry:Schweinsteiger should not join Manchester United, warns Beckenbauer

    bastian-schweinsteiger-fc-bayern-munchen-23052015_ek1l1l82irv113m021ww99k58.jpg

Bayern Munich icon Franz Beckenbauer has advised Bastian Schweinsteiger against leave the Bundesliga champions for Manchester United.

The 30-year-old's future at the Allianz Arena is in doubt due to the strong competition for places in midfield and a number of reports have claimed that the Red Devils are keen to lure him to Old Trafford ahead of the 2015-16 campaign.

Nevertheless, Beckenbauer feels Schweinsteiger should stick around at Bayern for two more seasons, before potentially making the move to MLS.

"Schweinsteiger does not need a challenge like that any more at his age," Beckenbauer told Sky Sport News."I would advise him not to make the move to England. He might as well stay here at Bayern.

"Schweinsteiger still has one or two more years at the highest level in him. If he still feels like playing football then, I would advise him to consider a move to MLS and to New York."

The Germany international's contract with Bayern runs until June 2016.

Nasri: Everyone wants me to stay at Manchester City

    1201552_heroa.jpg

Samir Nasri has dismissed talk of an exit from Manchester City this season but has called on the club to invest in the squad.

City finished as runners-up in the Premier League to Chelsea last season as Manuel Pellegrini & Co. finished empty-handed domestically, having also failed to reach the Champions League quarter-finals yet again.

Nasri started just half of City's league games last season, with Goal understanding the midfielder was deemed surplus to requirements ahead of the transfer window in a bid to overhaul an ageing squad.

But the Frenchman is fully expecting to remain at the Etihad Stadium during the summer, telling FourFourTwo: "I signed a five-year contract [last summer] and everybody at the club wants me to stay.

"It's up to the manager ... I had a lot of injuries and I want to take back the chance. But I will be in Manchester, having a great season and winning silverware - that’s what's going to happen next year."

Pellegrini is yet to bolster his ranks this summer, despite Liverpool bringing in five new faces and Manchester United signing Memphis Depay and seeing the likes of James Milner and Frank Lampard leave.

Nasri is aware the squad needs strengthening after the disappointments of last term, and points to the club's continual underachievement in the Champions League as a yardstick of their progression.

He said: "I think we're going to buy some players to try to improve the squad, to improve the depth as well – because if we want to be competitive in all the competitions, we need to have bigger depth in the squad.

"If we want to be competitive in the Champions League, which is one of the main targets, and if we want to fight for every trophy, that’s what you need to do – and that's what we're going to improve in the summer.

"The season was very disappointing for us. We secured second place, which was really important, but when you're a club like Manchester City you want to be the best and win trophies every year.

"After what happened in 2013-14, to finish last season without silverware was a blow, but we showed that we had a lot of character. We're ready to attack the next year and bring silverware back to Manchester."

Don't compare me to Gerrard, says Can

    emre-can-liverpool-3-2-tottenham_wq5siu8s4gn51a87z6vqcmuxb.jpg

Liverpool youngster Emre Can has refused comparisons to Steven Gerrard as the Reds prepare for life after their legendary captain.

The German signed for the Reds last summer and grew into his first-team role over the course of the season, often playing as part of Brendan Rodgers's defence.

But, while Liverpool have a Gerrard-shaped vacancy in their engine room this summer, Can prefers to avoid being pigeon-holed as the midfielder's heir apparent.

"I think people understand it wrong," he told Kicker, "it would be presumptuous if I compared myself with Steven Gerrard.

"He is a great player who achieved a lot. I'll need years to do that. I have the biggest respect for his performances and awards for Liverpool [but] I want to go my way and be perceived as Emre Can."

The former Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen man is adamant, meanwhile, that Liverpool have a realistic shot at silverware next season despite missing out on glory in 2014-15.

"Of course it's realistic, if you look at the quality of our team and the daily training level. That is very, very high," he argued. "We also saw and felt in the matches against big clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal, [Manchester] United or City that something is possible.

"Unfortunately, we were behind our expectations last season but I believe we can be title contenders.

"But every single one in the team needs to believe in this - that is an important requirement. Then the trophy drought of 25 years might come to an end."

Szczesny shows Cech he's got the eye of the tiger

    1406692_heroa.jpg

Perhaps alarmed by expectations of Petr Cech's signing from Chelsea as his competition, Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny looks to have converted to another kind of keeper.

If the Gunners star was looking to prove to Arsene Wenger that he can still take charge of a defence, then taking the lead in walking a tiger should be a decent start.

The Poland international posted a picture of himself with the beast on Instagram as he enjoys his holiday before being called back to pre-season training later this summer.

After Hull City's relegation last season, however, learning how to deal with the Tigers might not be the priority for Szczesny that it once was.

Miranda: I hope Inter return to greatness

    james-rodriguez-joao-miranda-atletico-de-madrid-real-madrid-champions-league-04142015_hcp4b5b8g8l2105v0kx08907c.jpg

Atletico Madrid defender Miranda is hopeful that Inter will return to greatness again in the near future as he edges ever closer to San Siro. The Brazil international is set to move to Milan after the Nerazzurri and Atletico agreed on a €12 million transfer fee, potentially rising to €15m, for his services.

Miranda is thus unsurprisingly confident that the 2010 treble winners can become a force to be reckoned with once again."I can say that Inter are a great team in international football and hopefully again they will be one of the best teams in Europe," Miranda told Lancenet.

However, the 30-year-old was quick to stress that his sole focus at the moment is on leading Brazil to Copa America glory.

"My head is with the Brazilian team," Miranda added. "I’m fully focused on playing and winning the Copa America in Chile."Miranda started his professional career with Coritiba and also wore the jerseys of Sochaux and Sao Paulo before joining Atleti in 2011.

He has since won La Liga, Copa del Rey, Supercopa de Espana, Europa League and Uefa Supercup with the Primera Division side.

Manchester City to sign Turkish wonderkid Unal

    enes-unal-bursaspor_xgl6s73h0cin1rz1knry9f5h2.jpg

Manchester City have tied up a deal to sign 18-year-old striker Enes Unal from Bursaspor.

The striker has only scored four goals in 35 league games for the Super Lig side but is seen as his country's most exciting young talent - with an astonishing record of 170 goals in 102 games for youth teams - and has already represented Turkey at senior level.

Goal understands that Unal had offers from Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United as he entered the final year of his contract but opted for City, with Bursaspor president Recep Bolukbasi confirming the agreement on Thursday.

"We have an agreement with Manchester City," he told reporters. "Enes will go to England at the weekend to complete the transfer."

Manuel Pellegrini's side have set a fee that could rise to £2 million (€2.8m), as well as including a 10 per cent sell-on clause in Bursaspor's favour.

A work permit for Unal is yet to be confirmed and it is understood that the youngster would be loaned out for a year if one is not granted.

    Arsenal sign Romania starlet Dragomir

    arsene-wenger-arsenal_m2crexir8p6f1n7baj0k3ag1g.jpg

Arsenal have completed the signing of Vlad Dragomir from ACS Poli Timisoara for €100,000, with the teenage midfielder penning a three-year deal.

The 16-year-old is the Gunners' first signing of the summer transfer window and will join the club's academy as a first-year scholar.

Dragomir, who captains the Romania Under-16s, had been linked with Inter but admitted that the chance to join Arsenal was too tempting to turn down.

"The Arsenal offer seemed the best to me, I felt that this is my place," Dragomir told Pro Sport following the move. "I am very glad to sign and I hope not to disappoint anyone."

Dragomir's agent, Catalin Sarmasan, added: "I offered Vlad to Arsenal a year and a half ago and they have monitored him closely.

"In my opinion, he is one of the most talented young players in Europe at the moment."

Official: Everton sign Deulofeu in €6m deal from Barcelona

    378923_heroa.jpg

Everton have confirmed the €6 million signing of winger Gerard Deulofeu from Barcelona on an initial three-year deal. The 21-year-old Spaniard enjoyed a successful loan spell at Goodison Park in the 2013-14 season, before spending last term at Sevilla on a temporary basis.

He will now move to Everton permanently after the Premier League club agreed a fee with Barcelona, who retain a buy-back clause and first option on the player.

"Gerard needs no introduction to anyone here at Everton, for we are all well aware of his incredible footballing talent," said Everton manager Roberto Martinez.

"We got to know him really well from his loan period, not only as such a talented player but also his great character. He will be a fantastic asset to our club.""Gerard considers Everton as home and we are getting an even more mature player now than he was a couple of seasons ago.

"Our objective was to secure Tom Cleverley, who agreed a move to Goodison last month and Gerard as quickly as we could and I’m really pleased this is exactly what we’ve done."

Deulofeu, a product of Barcelona's youth system who never started a senior game for the club, made 29 appearances in his first spell at Everton. The Merseyside club have the option of extending his deal by a further year.

:DVan Persie catches a shark during holiday fishing trip

Robin van Persie has succeeded where Louis van Gaal has so far failed this summer and reeled in a big one...

The Manchester United striker, whilst on holiday with his family, went for a spot of deep-sea fishing and ended up catching a shark.

The Dutchman took his time bringing the shark to the surface and was keen to get a selfie with his catch before releasing it back into the sea.

Bartomeu's going to prison, claims Majo

    barcelona-president-josep-maria-bartomeu_17namp0ds3k0n19r3u9sw1gv22.jpg

Barcelona standing chief Josep Maria Bartomeu “could be going to prison”, fellow presidential candidate Jordi Majo has warned voters.

Sandro Rosell's successor – who has been in charge at Camp Nou since stepping following his predecessor's resignation in January 2014 – is currently embroiled in a fraud dispute over Neymar's €86.2 million move two years ago.

The legal issues hanging over Bartomeu's head have been highlighted by Majo, who does not think his political opponent is taking enough responsibility for what has gone wrong within the Catalan club."Those who used to run the club have broken, hate-filled relationships," he told Efe. "They speak ill of each other and it's to the detriment of Barca.

"Two former presidents in Rosell and Bartomeu have been indicted, while [fellow candidate] Joan Laporta had spies to work against the club. This is a war. This war will not end if Bartomeu wins. This war will not end if Laporta wins.

"In this country there is so much that people do not understand and Bartomeu needs to take responsibility for what has happened. This is a president that could be going to prison and we must assume the worst case scenario."

Barcelona's presidential race will conclude on July 18, four weeks before La Liga kicks off and Luis Enrique's men begin the defence of their title.

Chelsea agree loan deals for Kalas and Ake

    nathan-ake-chelsea-premier-league_3m0eoma6jvu21omzj9xtt72kx.jpg

Chelsea have agreed to send defenders Tomas Kalas and Nathan Ake on loan to Middlesbrough next season, Goal understands.

Czech Republic international Kalas impressed in 17 Championship appearances during a temporary spell at the Riverside Stadium last season, even as Aitor Karanka's men fell short against Norwich City in the play-off final at Wembley.

Ake, meanwhile, acquitted himself well for Reading in a brief stint last term, making five appearances in April to help the Royals maintain their Championship status.

Both are well down the first-team pecking order at Stamford Bridge but Chelsea's decision to loan them to Middlesbrough is further evidence of the close relationship between Jose Mourinho and Karanka, his assistant at Real Madrid.

Last season Boro enjoyed the services of Kalas as well as fellow Blues youngsters Patrick Bamford and Kenneth Omeruo.

'Don't expect Depay to be like Giggs'

    memphis-depay-psv_1sb5qmcc2lttl1a1esw9opa2gs.jpg

Manchester United supporters should not expect new boy Memphis Depay to play like Ryan Giggs at Old Trafford, former Netherlands international Pierre van Hooijdonk has warned.

Depay became United's first confirmed signing of the summer when a €30 million deal with PSV was announced last month and is expected to take his place on the left flank of Louis van Gaal's attack next season.

It is a spot Giggs made his own for much of his remarkable career at Old Trafford, but Van Hooijdonk believes his countryman will offer different skills in the role.

"He's not like Ryan Giggs was," the former Feyenoord and Nottingham Forest striker told ESPN. "He's right-footed and comes inside opponents. He's not going to create as many goals as Giggs did, but he's going to score more. He's very strong physically and mentally.

"He's had a few problems with his development but that's part of the game. You don't learn to cycle without falling off, but you make sure that you must not break your leg.

"Depay's good and he can only become better. He will do well in England but like the other young players you need to give him a bit of time. He's a guy that can make something happen, he's capable of scoring goals and he strikes the ball very well with both the inside of his foot and also the top.

"He can score from distance and close range and from what I saw of United last season he's already good enough to play for them."

Van Hooijdonk believes Depay's long-standing relationship with Van Gaal - the 21-year-old shone under the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach's guidance for the Netherlands in the 2014 World Cup - leaves him well placed to be a big hit at Old Trafford.

"It's very important for a player if you have a coach who knows you and has faith in you," he added. "Van Gaal knows him from his time with the national team and knows how to handle him. He made a good choice about going to United.

"Look at Radamel Falcao. I don't think that Van Gaal was a fan of him and you saw what happened. But I do think Van Gaal is a fan of Depay."

    :shocked::baffled:'Higuain won't be sold for under €94m'

    gonzalo-higuain-napoli-lazio-serie-a_1a41oa7b81t381nekezauci93h.jpg

Gonzalo Higuain will not be sold for any less than his €94.7 million clause, according to Napoli's head of communications.

The striker, 27, has been heavily linked with a move away from the Stadio San Paolo this summer following the departure of coach Rafa Benitez and their failure to secure Champions League fl.

However, Partenopei PR chief Nicolas Lombardo informed the official radio station of the club that there is no chance that the Argentina international is leaving the Serie A side unless his clause is struck."Napoli are keen to make an official clarification based on some newspapers' claims in articles about the potential transfer of Higuain," Radio Kiss Kiss stated.

"The club stresses that the Argentine has an existing contract clause of €94,736,000. No bids below that figure will be accepted, those who want the player will have to match that valuation."

Manchester City, AC Milan, Arsenal and Liverpool are among the clubs to have been rumoured to be interested in the Argentine, who has spent two seasons in Italy since moving from Real Madrid for €40m.

Whether said clubs will have to fork out the massive fee or if Napoli are trying to push for a higher price should they be pressured into telling remains to be seen.

Liverpool on brink of Clyne capture

    nathaniel-clyne-southampton-premier-league-16052015_1uf5zg3ykaunc1p00y09t57ffo.jpg

Liverpool are set to make Nathaniel Clyne their sixth summer signing after agreeing a €17.5 million fee with Southampton, Goal can confirm.

Clyne's future at St Mary's Stadium was the subject of intense speculation throughout last season and Goal revealed in April that he had told Manchester United he would be eager to move to Old Trafford this summer.

But it is United's bitter rivals Liverpool who have won the race for Clyne - who has one year remaining on his Southampton contract - with a deal starting at €14.7m, just days after confirming the €40m capture of Hoffenheim star Roberto Firmino.

Clyne will become Brendan Rodgers' sixth acquisition of a busy start to the summer transfer window, joining Firmino, James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan and youngster Joe Gomez at Anfield.

Earlier this month Southampton signed Portugal international right-back Cedric as a replacement for the outgoing Clyne, while Glen Johnson is set to leave Liverpool on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of June.
