25+ (6.6Kw) units for a full charge! This wouldn't be a the perfect economic solution because hydro power plant contributes nearly 50% of the electricity and the rest is DIESEL. Unless we have nuclear power plants, this car wouldn't be much of a perfect solution in saving MONEY.

Solar panel on Leaf actually charging the 12V battery which is used by Fan, Lights, Audio Systems, Computer, Dashboard, etc..solar panel is an optional extra which powers up the A/C while the car is at a stop, and few other functions. But dont buy this car. it's a crap

And why you think this is a crap ? can you give me good reasons for that ?
Remember, this car is very expensive and very comfortable car. But we can import it for very low cost since the TAX reduction ( 5% only ) of Electric cars. IF the TAX was same as for hybrids ( 95% ) , this car would be cost around 45-60 laks.
Don't get offended by what i said friend. For that amount of money, i think the consumer deserves a much better life, not suffering from " range mania " each and every time you get in to a car. To me a personal vehicle means a lot more than that. It should be a reliable friend, which soothes me whenever it's needed. It should be taking me anywhere whenever i want to without giving me worrying thoughts about where it's gonna run out juice. This car is more than 3M yeah?. That's way too much for a pile of inconveniences i think. I agree it's a comfy little car but it's still in testing era. The company yet doesn't know how long the batteries last. They say if you charge them when they are half empty it could take 8-9 years before you'll have to replace them, but possibly 3-5 years. If you charge them with using fast charging points , you are going to ruin the batteries in 3-5 years. A new battery pack ? it's more expensive than you think ( aik $ 5000-6000 ) and how you even gonna sell your vehicle after using it for few years? It's not an environmental friendly car either ( not even hybrids ), coz the procedures of making a EVs and hybrids do more damages to the environment than any other ordinary vehicle. I believe still the hybrids are okay until the engineers come up with better Hydrogen fuel cell cars for public use. That will be a better alternative for fossil fuel in the future. But these EVs, especially in Sri Lanka, it's just a bad idea.
BTW i saw someone has mentioned that one of his cousins went from moratuwa to anuradhapura in 14 hours. That's what i was talking about. Why didn't he got in to an A/C bus?. He could've made it within good 5 hours. Whole point of buying a personal vehicle is to make your journey convenient and comfortable. With these EVs, like Leaf, I don't think that's even there yet.
.I'm not offended by it. But I think you are still in dark. ............,

I'm not offended by it. But I think you are still in dark. If you can remember, we heard the same story when Hybrids ware coming in to Sri Lanka. People who do not have courage to accept new technologies and the challenges, can point out 1000 negative facts on them. BUT all these technologies are here since some of the people accepted that challenge.
We have a "EV Owners Club" formed up in SL and so far no one has regret about their car. Of course, some people has bad experience (very rarely like charging issues) sometimes BUT issues are there for fuel cars also ( engine faults, fuel issues, breakdowns, etc ). All of our members love our car and yes it's very economical and I know since I had a fuel car earlier. I'll never get any engine faults, I don't want to service the car (just wash it) so all those money I can save without any problem.
People know when to fuel their car, when to re-charge their phone so we know when to recharge our cars. And it has many indicators to inform us about the battery level and running distance.
Yes, higher grade of the Nissan Leaf if over 3M and it's highly comfortable and bigger than a even a Toyota Prius. Company giving 10yrs of warranty for their battery coz it can run more than 10yrs ( battery fear was there in Hybrids also LOL ). We can afford 2 battery packs for what we are saving withing few years with our EV.
what procedures you are referring about environment damages caused by EVs ? Nissan Leaf is 100% recyclable vehicle and it's seat also made with recycled bottles.
And my friend, testing phase of EVs are over now ( Tesla has more than 10 yrs of EVs and Leaf has 5 yrs ). Nowadays, they are trying to optimize battery chemistry to increase range these days. So no more testings.
So, my advise is, please do a research before criticizing about something. Please drive it before deciding about comfortability and size. EV's are environment friendly, that why they called as green cars. We are buying ~55-60M car for 30M just because of the TAX reduction. So we have saved more than 50% soon after we bought it.
Cheers,
I think the Nissan leaf needs further development, it needs to have a minimum capacity of 200KM, which the 2016 Leaf promises to do, according to our weather condition, since the battery is corportated not only factors of weather and other scenarios, it could deplete faster, unless you keep the battery in best of it's conditions' below 25C.
The leaf is great, but needs to be used as a second vehicle, you could do your daily chores of going a few km a day and back, and put it to charge once the battery is depleted (this is to condition the battery and should only be charged when the battery level is 9% or less).
My Sister has one in silver, and she likes it, they use it as a second vehicle as there Prado is too big to go and pick up her kids, and go shopping etc.
She says she has got stuck in traffic, and the charge has gone down from 35% to 21% within 35 mins of being stuck in traffic.
When the leaf increases it's range it's capacity then it will become a hit, for now it's a great second car,.

. This is completely wrong and what they actually recommend is, not to charge your car when SOC ( State of Charge ) is not below 80%."put it to charge once the battery is depleted (this is to condition the battery and should only be charged when the battery level is 9% or less)"

Some of your points are very accurate, about the coverage of KM it can do is 120KM with traffic, my Sister is in this criteria, she uses it in colombo and sometimes there are times where she has to charge it, once it has done 100KM. She finds it hard sometimes when the car keeps on ringing to charge the battery at 10KM remaining. Where could you charge anyway in the middle of the road? so once it's fully charged we always make use of it, until it drops below 20KM, then we don't take it out, and use the other vehicle, It's sometimes a hassle to charge it, charging it at home, and sometimes we forget to remove the plug. it's a good car, but too much of day to day maintenance. I hope the new 2016's leaf is better in range and other facilities.Yes, not only Nissan Leaf, any vehicle also needs further development. That's why we can see generations on every vehicle. Mileage is something you cannot promise on any vehicle. Problem of the EV is the capacity of the battery. In my car I've drove 180Km with A/C in outstation. And sometimes it drops up to 120Km in heavy traffic.
Distance it can drive is depending on varies factors. Traffic congestion, Weather outside, A/C temperature set inside, Tire pressure, Road conditions, Number of passengers, and specially your driving pattern. Since fuel car has bigger tank and it can do long distance, people cannot see these facts sometimes. But these facts are valid for every vehicle. In Japan for Leaf they got 230Km per single charge and we all know it's not practical.
Our weather is totally OK for Leaf unless you park your car under direct sunlight everyday (this is also not a big issue since the battery pack has placed under the car). According to Nissan, ambient temperature above 49C( for 24 hours ) and below -25C ( for over 7 days ) may damage the battery. That's it.
Yes, it's better if we can keep Nissan Leaf as the second vehicle ( if your are rich that much ). And I don't know from where you got . This is completely wrong and what they actually recommend is, not to charge your car when SOC ( State of Charge ) is not below 80%.
Again, even if your car has stopped in traffic, your A/C is running and it uses your battery. So battery capacity can go down and temperature set inside is directly impacting the speed of discharge.
