    - Sri Lanka's state-run Ceylon Electricity Board is offering off peak power at 13 rupees a unit (9 US cents) to charge electric cars at home.

The off peak rate will be available from 10.30 pm to 05.30 am the next day, the CEB said.

A peak tariff of 54 rupees unit (kilowatt hour) will be charged from 6.30 pm to 10.30 pm. A 25 rupee a unit charge will be applied for the balance 13 hours.

A CEB customer who has a 30 Ampere three-phase supply could apply for the tariff. A time of day meter will have to be installed.

Sri Lanka's electric car ownership has been growing due to a very low tax of 5 percent, compared to over 150 percent for other cars owned by the less affluent due to state interventionism.

Sri Lanka has slack capacity in its coal power plants after the night peak. (Colombo/Sept16/2015)

    Yes
    Digital meters
    No more rotating dials.

And most of the newer models can be read from a distance ( from the gate or the drive way of the house ) with a hand held device.
