Roma 1-1 AC Milan: Kucka rescues draw for visitors

    2507372_heroa.jpg

Neither Rudi Garcia nor Sinisa Mihajlovic were able to claim a much-needed win at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday as Roma and AC Milan played out a 1-1 draw in Serie A.

Both Garcia and Mihajlovic have come under increasing pressure of late but their sides could not be separated as Juraj Kucka cancelled out Antonio Rudiger's early strike in the capital.

After one win in eight matches prior to the mid-season break, Garcia's Roma twice let a lead slip to draw against Chievo in midweek but the hosts were impressive early on as Rudiger's close-range finish gave them an ideal start.

Mihajlovic - whose side were jeered after their midweek defeat to Bologna at San Siro - grew into the game after Rudiger had rattled the post with a header midway through the first half.

Gianluigi Donnarumma produced a stunning save to deny the German and, early in the second half, Milan's improvement was rewarded when Kucka headed in at the far post.

Kucka missed a glorious chance for a brace, while Giacomo Bonaventura was denied by the woodwork, but neither side could find a winner as Milan moved sixth - a place and five points off Roma, who welcomed back Francesco Totti after more than three months out.

In-form striker Umar Sadiq forced fellow teenager Donnarumma into a smart stop when he capitalised on sloppy Milan defending 15 seconds in as Roma started brightly. And the hosts were rewarded for their early initiative when Rudiger ghosted in unmarked at the far post to convert Miralem Pjanic's deep delivery.

Rudiger was denied a second when Donnarumma impressively tipped the defender's header onto the crossbar 20 minutes in, before Milan improved and saw Bonaventura force saves with two long-range efforts either side of the break.
Roma's Iago Falque saw an effort saved by the Milan shot stopper as they struggled to convert their possession into clear-cut chances prior to half-time.

However, the visitors' pressure paid off four minutes into the second half when Kucka climbed highest to meet a cross and arc a header past Wojciech Szczesny.

The game remained open before the hour - Milan introducing Kevin-Prince Boateng off the bench for his second Milan debut - with Carlos Bacca almost getting on the end of a throughball, thwarted by Szczesny.Bacca then dummied Boateng's pullback only for Kucka to turn the ball over from inside the area, before Bonaventura hit the crossbar from the edge of the area.

However, while Milan piled on pressure, Gervinho sent an effort wide before Totti came off the bench to make his first appearance since September following a long-term thigh injury.

Despite both sides impressing in spells, neither were able to secure a win to put pressure on Serie A's leading pack, of whom Inter, Napoli and Juventus play on Sunday.

Van Gaal reveals one Manchester United star is 'in the red zone'

    1989982_heroa.jpg

Louis van Gaal admits Morgan Schneiderlin is “in the red zone” and revealed the midfielder needs a rest.

Manchester United scraped a 1-0 victory over Sheffield United in the FA Cup on Saturday thanks to Wayne Rooney’s penalty, while Schneiderlin, Michael Carrick and Ashley Young were rested following the heavy Christmas schedule.

"Schneiderlin is not injured but he's in the red zone and had an overload,” said Van Gaal.

“In the Christmas period, he played every game and we have to take care of that. I don't take risks and, because of that, we have a very young bench. I trust these players also because [Andreas] Pereira is coming in and was a very good substitute, I think.

"With our injuries and players in the red zone, we have to take care of it. I think we have done it well."

Bastian Schweinsteiger also suffered an injury in the second half at Old Trafford and Van Gaal is unsure whether the German will be available for Tuesday’s Premier League trip to Newcastle United.

"It shall be difficult of course [for him to face Newcastle]," said the Dutchman.

"I don't know yet but I think he has a knee problem. Everyone thinks he has an ankle problem but I think it's more the knee than the ankle. We'll have to wait and see.”

Van Gaal issues a WARNING to Fellaini

    2505902_heroa.jpg

Louis van Gaal has told his under-fire players they don’t deserve to be playing for Manchester United if they’re unable to handle criticism from the fans.

The Premier League giants struggled past League One side Sheffield United at Old Trafford on Saturday, requiring a last minute penalty from Wayne Rooney to secure a 1-0 win and book a place in the FA Cup fourth round.

It was the tenth game in a row that United failed to score in the first half of a match on home soil and a large section of United’s fans were heard jeering when they eventually forced their first shot on target in the 69th minute.

Marouane Fellaini was singled out for criticism and was jeered when he was substituted in the second half but Van Gaal insists it should not have any impact on his performances if he hopes to prolong his career at the club.

Asked specifically about Fellaini's situation, Van Gaal said: “I think a Manchester United player has to cope with the pressure of Manchester United fans and also the media.

“And that is also what I expect. I do think you are right that it can have an influence, but I think a Manchester United player has to cope with that otherwise you are not a good Manchester United player.”

Toure's agent issues warning to Manchester City over Guardiola move

    2337302_heroa.jpg

Yaya Toure’s agent has questioned Pep Guardiola’s managerial record, claiming his grandmother could win the title with Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Goal understands that City lead the race to land Guardiola when he his contract with Bayern Munich expires at the end of the season.

But Toure’s representative, Dimitri Seluk, insists Roberto Mancini should be credited for City’s rise.

“Pep is a great coach. But he has won the title at Barcelona and Bayern Munich,” Seluk told the Sunday Mirror.

“The truth is that my grandfather would win the title with Barcelona and Bayern Munich because they are big clubs with great players.

“Look at Luis Enrique now. Last season he won the title and the Champions League with Barcelona.

“I’m not saying he isn’t a good coach, but look what he did at Roma. Nothing. I’d like to see Pep take a club that is eighth or ninth and make them champions.

“That’s why Roberto Mancini was the best manager City have had.

“Manuel Pellegrini is also a good coach who deserves credit, but Mancini built the team. He took a team that was nowhere and made them champions.”

Seluk is also wary of City’s transfers if Guardiola is appointed and admits it could trigger the end of Toure’s time at the Etihad Stadium.

“In Germany, they say it is 100 per cent that Guardiola will be City’s manager and I believe it also,” said Seluk.

“I don’t know what Guardiola’s plans are, but – after what happened at Barcelona – of course it is a worry that when he comes Yaya will be out. I hope not and Yaya hopes not.

“He has had offers to leave City, but he loves the club, he loves the fans and he loves the people of Manchester.

“Once Pep comes, there will be a lot more Spanish players arriving.

“They are trying to turn City into Barcelona when they should be creating their own identity.”

Monaco will not recall Falcao from Chelsea - Vasilyev

    radamelfalcao-cropped_1qtvg9zas5e4r1sb3b3lvte1t1.jpg

Monaco have confirmed they will not be recalling Radamel Falcao from his loan at Chelsea, though they are close to completing the signing of Vagner Love.

Falcao has spent the past two seasons on loan in the Premier League - first with Manchester United in 2014-15 and now with Chelsea. The Colombian striker has made just nine league appearances with the reigning champions and has been out of action since the end of October due to injury.

However, with Falcao set for up to another two months on the sidelines, Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev stated they have no intentions of bringing him back for the rest of the season.

"Falcao is currently injured. He has to wait for six to seven more weeks. Due to it, we took the decision of not taking him back in Monaco," Vasilyev said.

The 50-year-old also revealed that the club are set to sign Love from Brazilian side Corinthians.

"We are expecting Vagner Love to arrive this week," the club chief said. "I hope we can make his signing official soon. It's a transfer with a contract of 18 months."

Monaco are third in the Ligue 1 table, 21 points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain.

Scholes blasts Van Gaal for playing FOUR Manchester United stars out of position

    2506782_heroa.jpg

Paul Scholes believes Louis van Gaal is trying to fit “square pegs in round holes” with his Manchester United team selection and claims Marouane Fellaini, Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and Anthony Martial are all being played out of position.

United limped through to the FA Cup fourth round as a late Wayne Rooney penalty sealed a 1-0 victory over Sheffield United at Old Trafford on Saturday.

And Scholes insists the United boss is still struggling to get his team balance right.

“The big thing for me, I see square pegs in round holes with players in this team,” Scholes told BT Sport.

“Marouane Fellaini because he was a real handful in the box, you can hit the ball up to him and he brings it down brilliantly. He’’s playing in a central midfield position, trying to dictate play and create. It’s not his game, he’s never going to be able to do that.

“Herrera, I don’t know what he is, is he a No.10, is he a midfield player? I don’t think Van Gaal knows that.

“Juan Mata gets stuck on the right hand side, [he’s got] no pace to play there.

“Martial, is he a left winger or a centre forward? Who knows, we don’t know. He gets constantly changed from position to position, I think there are so many questions about this team.”

Van Gaal explains why he subbed Mata early in Manchester United's win over Sheffield United

    2369572_heroa.jpg

Louis van Gaal has revealed that he substituted Juan Mata in Manchester United’s win over Sheffield United because the Spaniard was struggling in his wide role.

United scraped past the League One club following Wayne Rooney’s late penalty, while Van Gaal was once again criticised for his side’s lack of attacking threat Old Trafford.

Mata was brought off in the 60th minute for Depay, who won the penalty for United, and Van Gaal admits the Spaniard was hooked because of his inability to stay out wide.

"We have to play with wingers who make the pitch as big as possible and with Memphis and [Jesse] Lingard I know it's like that. So we improved by restoring the shape,” explained the Dutchman.

"I asked Mata but he was never there. Then [Matteo] Darmian has to be the right winger and he tried to do that but that is not his speciality and that's why I changed.

"I am very happy that because of one of Memphis' actions he causes the penalty."

Real Madrid 5-0 Deportivo: Bale hat-trick gets Zidane reign off to perfect start

    gareth-bale-real-madrid-deportivo-coruna-la-liga-09012915_h298my9y501d9tchh0ynnhg.jpg

A Gareth Bale hat-trick helped Real Madrid to a thumping 5-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna in Zinedine Zidane's first match in charge.

Zidane, who replaced Rafael Benitez as head coach this week, was forced to deny rumours that Bale could be sold this month and the Wales star responded in perfect fashion by inspiring Madrid to an impressive win.

Karim Benzema flicked home the first before Bale doubled the lead in the first half against a Deportivo side who could have given Zidane much more to worry about had it not been for some wayward early finishing.

But Bale promptly killed the game in the second half with a brilliant placed finish and a glancing header to take his tally to 10 goals in his last seven Liga matches.
Depor, to their credit, continued to push for a consolation, but Madrid stretched their lead oncemore through Benzema to put pressure on Barcelona and Atletico Madrid above them and give Zidane the winning start he wanted.

Cristiano Ronaldo had German Lux at full stretch with the first shot in anger but Deportivo started the brightest, and Keylor Navas reacted well to stop Lucas Perez from snatching the lead from close range with 11 minutes played.

Madrid survived that early scare and got off the mark under Zidane with just 15 minutes played. Sergio Ramos hooked the ball goalwards after Toni Kroos' corner was half-cleared, and Benzema just managed to stay onside before backheeling the ball into the bottom corner.

The home side suddenly looked more comfortable and promptly doubled their lead after 23 minutes, as Bale headed Dani Carvajal's pinpoint cross from the right past Lux from six yards.

Bale then almost turned provider for Ronaldo, but the Portugal star headed his delicate chip onto the woodwork. Deportivo continued to threaten through Perez and Luis Alberto towards the end of an entertaining first half but couldn't find a way past Navas.

Madrid took advantage and put the game beyond the visitors with just four minutes of the second half played. Ronaldo raced clear down the right and pulled the ball back across the box for Bale, whose superb first-time finish with his side foot beat Lux at the near post from 18 yards out and moved him ahead of the 49 goals Zidane scored in a Real shirt.

And the unstoppable Bale secured his hat-trick with a strong glancing header from Toni Kroos' corner, before he was withdrawn to a rapturous reception in the closing stages.

Depor kept pushing for a consolation and Navas leapt superbly to his left to parry Alberto's strike from 25 yards, before Ronaldo dragged an effort wide after charging into the area in what proved a disappointing personal 90 minutes for the Portuguese.

A fine tackle from Alejandro Arribas denied Ronaldo a chance on the counter-attack in injury time but Benzema arrived to smash home the rebound off the crossbar from just inside the box to put the icing on the cake for Madrid and Zidane.

Patta match eka. Deportivo hoda fight ekak dunna first half eke. Eth Real playing style eka dan wenas. Godak aggressive, godak chances create karanawa  Ronaldo apahu solo runs karanawa.. Sahenna team moral hadila. Hoda fight ekak dei next matches tike

:angry::angry:Van Gaal: Man Utd unlikely to make January buys

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal says it is unlikely that the club will sign players in January.

The Dutchman remained tight-lipped over the potential arrival of Lazio midfielder Felipe Anderson when asked about any deal following the club's 1-0 victory over Sheffield United on Saturday.

Goal understands the Premier League club are ready to trigger a £35 million release clause for the 22-year-old although Van Gaal, while conceding he needs "creative players", has suggested it will be difficult to add to his squad in the winter window.

"I don't think we shall do business in January," he told reporters.

"You cannot say that [for certain] because when there is a chance to make the selection better, then we shall do it. [But] I don't think that we shall do that.
"I have said also in transfer period that we need creative players, with speed. And we don't have that too much.

"[Juan] Mata is playing on the right side and is doing fantastically. He has always a big contribution for our team. But he is not a right winger in the profile that I have.

"It's not so easy to chase players who are better than Mata."

Monaco set to end El Shaarawy loan

    stephanelshaarawy-cropped_9dvyghgzmf4912cnpodkcnjnd.jpg

Stephan El Shaarawy looks set for an imminent return to Serie A after Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev claimed he is no longer in the plans of coach Leonardo Jardim.

El Shaarawy joined Monaco on loan at the start of the season from Italian outfit AC Milan but has failed to score in 15 Ligue 1 appearances this term.

Vasilyev said the principality club are in negotiations over El Shaarawy's exit amid interest from Roma.

"El Shaarawy is not any more in the project of the head coach of Monaco," he told the club's official website.

"We are currently negotiating to find a solution. Maybe it’s not a comeback in Milan. It could be elsewhere.

"We are not planning to make him play again. That’s not planned. He’s a great player with a lot of qualities. He’s an international player with Italy. We need to find the right solution for everyone. I hope we will."

The forward will be hoping for a quick solution to the situation with Euro 2016 quickly approaching.

"We are discussing with Milan, his agent and other clubs in order to find something," Vasilyev added.

"I would like for Stephan that he keeps playing in order to be at the Euro because I know that the head coach, [Antonio] Conte, is thinking of him.

"I would like to find the right solution for him."

Milan CEO Adriano Galliani confirmed the negotiations with fellow Serie A club Roma.

"There are negotiations with Roma for El Shaarawy," Galliani told Mediaset Premium.

"If we were to reach an agreement with Roma, we’d have to sit around a table to find a solution."

Inter 0-1 Sassuolo: Berardi penalty snatches late win

    2509242_heroa.jpg

Domenico Berardi smashed home an injury-time penalty as Sassuolo stunned Serie A leaders Inter with a 1-0 victory at San Siro.

The visitors were indebted to Andrea Consigli, their goalkeeper who kept Inter at bay with a virtuoso performance, before a clumsy challenge from Miranda on substitute Gregoire Defrel presented Berardi with the opportunity to be the match-winner from 12 yards – one he gleefully accepted.

Inter were not so clinical during the first half, when Mauro Icardi and Adem Ljajic passed up guilt-edged opportunities and they will lose their place at the summit if Napoli avoid defeat at Frosinone later on Sunday.

Reigning champions Juventus can also pull level on points with Roberto Mancini's men if they win at Sampdoria in the evening kick-off, with Inter left to reflect on back-to-back home losses.

Sassuolo, meanwhile, climb above Milan into sixth after extending their unbeaten league run to five games.

Mancini fielded familiar questions over his team's perceived lack of attacking intent before the match but they spurned two glorious chances within the opening five minutes.

Gary Medel, starting in midfield as Mancini named an unchanged XI for the first time in Serie A this season, caught out the Sassuolo defence with a superb lofted ball but in-form striker Icardi pulled his shot wastefully wide.

Icardi then turned provide with a clever flick into the path of Ljajic, who blasted past the post from 12 yards.

Sassuolo were undeterred by those close shaves and looked to attack themselves, with Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic saving well from Nicola Sansone's 13th-minute free-kick.

Ljajic then wasted a clearer opportunity on the end of Yuto Nagatomo's slightly deflected cross – mistiming his jump and heading over.

Ex-Inter youngster Alfred Duncan was recalled to the Sassuolo midfield to face his former club and Simone Missiroli almost prodded home his teasing 21st-minute cross, forcing an excellent point-blank save from Handanovic.

The Slovenia international kept another Sansone set-piece at bay before his opposite number Consigli was at full-stretch to brilliantly tip a curling Ljajic attempt around the post.

Consigli excelled himself once more in the 62nd minute – a firm hand repelling Ljajic's well-hit attempt – before the tireless Diego Falcinelli called Handanovic into action at his near post.

The hosts' frustration was evident when Medel escaped punishment for kicking out at Sansone and Defrel forced Inter centre-back Miranda to make a last-ditch block.

Consigli got down to claw away a low 20-yard shot from Icardi and, when the forward took Sassuolo's goalkeeper out of the equation by rounding him 10 minutes from time, substitute Rodrigo Palacio had his eventual attempt blocked on the line by Federico Peluso.

Handanovic was alert to deny sub Antonio Floro Flores at close quarters as the clock ticked down but a fine afternoon for goalkeepers belonged to Consigli, who pushed testing efforts from Ljajic and Inter replacement Stevan Jovetic away from the top corner.

Those heroics were rewarded in dramatic fashion as Miranda damagingly lost his composure and was forced to look on, crestfallen, as Berardi kept his to hand a tightly contested title race its latest twist.

Oxford United 3-2 Swansea City: Roofe on fire as League Two side pull off stunning upset

    kemarroofe-cropped_2z918gils3xy1matu6w585wv6.jpg

Kemar Roofe scored a double as League Two Oxford United pulled off the biggest shock of the FA Cup third round so far by beating Premier League Swansea City 3-2 on Sunday.

The Welsh side took the lead in manager Alan Curtis' first game since being given the job until the end of the season as Jefferson Montero finished off a flowing move in the 23rd minute.

But Oxford, who are third in League Two, produced a magnificent comeback to progress to the fourth round.

Liam Sercombe levelled matters just short of half-time from the penalty spot, before striker Roofe - linked with a move to Newcastle United - hit home from the edge of the area in the 49th minute.

Roofe then converted at the end of a quick break 10 minutes later to make it 3-1, only for Bafetimbi Gomis to halve the deficit and fray the nerves of the home fans at the Kassam Stadium.

Gomis' 66th minute strike at least gave Swansea hope of salvaging a replay, but Oxford held out to seal a famous victory.

Oxford started brightly and would have taken the lead if not for a fine save from Kristoffer Nordfeldt, who acrobatically turned Ryan Taylor's header from Christopher Maguire's left-wing cross over.

But the fourth-tier side soon fell behind courtesy of a stunning piece of link-up play between Montero and Emnes.

Montero drifted in from the left before laying the ball off for Emnes, who smartly flicked the ball back for the Ecuador international to find the bottom-left corner with a stylish finish.

Swansea could have been further ahead had Jonjo Shelvey been more clinical, the midfielder volleying over from a failed clearance and then sending a free-kick into the side-netting.

Oxford refused to lie down and levelled in first-half stoppage time following an ill-advised challenge by Bartley.

Nordfeldt did well to deny Jake Wright but, from the rebound, Bartley lunged in on Alex MacDonald and, despite not appearing to make a great deal of contact, was punished by referee Kevin Friend.

Sercombe stepped up and lashed the ball down the middle from 12 yards for his 14th goal of the season and Oxford completed the turnaround four minutes into the second half.

Roofe cut onto his right foot and curled towards goal, with the previously impressive Nordfeldt allowing the shot to creep into the bottom-right corner.

Sam Slocombe tipped over a Jack Cork header to deny Swansea an equaliser and, from the subsequent corner, Oxford gave themselves breathing room with a rapid counter-attack.

The ball broke to Maguire after the corner was cleared and the winger squared the ball for Roofe, who raced through on goal and saw his shot loop into the net despite a heavy touch from Nordfeldt.

However, Gomis cut the gap seven minutes later, the Frenchman slotting home after being played in by Cork, although replays indicated he may have been marginally offside.

Montero was thwarted by Slocombe in what served as the best chance to level for Swansea, who must now focus fully on their fight against relegation from the top flight.
