You definitely can live a super luxury life without being a politician. Have you noticed how many recently registered Toyota Land Cruisers, Discoveries, S Class, 7 series are on the road? vehicles like 5 series and E class have now become very common in SL. Ever wondered who those people are? Where they live or what they do? Are they all politicians? Have you seen how many luxury apartments have been built in the past few years? How many apartment projects are being done at the moment? Did you see the prices? They build those apartments cos there is a market for them. Which means there are people buying those apartments. Think about all those commercial buildings around the Galle rd. Specially the one with parking space for about 3 vehicles. How much do you think they earn per month?

I'm not saying what politicians are doing is right. But when it comes to money and luxury life, anyone could have it. You just have to be a bit smarter than the rest of the guys playing the game.
