The government has categorized as some vehicles (based on value of the vehicle) as luxury vehicles. for those, you need to pay luxury tax yearly or method that government put time to time. if its yearly max for first 5 years. toyota harrier 2016 luxury tax per year near 40k.

this tax i think come from early 2000

if you buy a registered luxury category vehicle you need to double check previous owners correctly paid that tax, otherwise you have to pay when you try to transfer to your name

It seems with new budget proposals any car worth more than 3.5 million (CIF) is going to be considered a luxury car... that's 2.2million jpy

Even a 2018 axio would exceed 2.2mil jpy (CIF) right now if I remember correct

So apparently whoever buys this car would have to pay Edit: Rs.479,000 as the luxury tax
