Finally
GMOA thanked for scientific approach, Muslim community will adhere to science
The Government Medical Officers’ Association ( GMOA ) by letter dated April 3, 2020 addressed to Dr. Anil Jasinghe the Director General of Health requested the appointment of a panel of scientific experts to look into the issue of burial or cremation of bodies infected with Covid-19.
We are thankful to the GMOA for its pluralist and scientific stance on the issue.
The Muslim community and other communities who believe in the burial of the deceased would stringently adhere to these findings.
I requested for the appointment of this committee of experts during representations made at the all party conference because we as a community will be guided by science. The community would not take any measures contrary to scientific findings.
The request of the community all throughout was also the same resulting in the circular permitting burial, which was later amended.
I take this opportunity to iterate the request of the Muslim community to the Director General of Health to appoint the committee of scientific experts.
Death is a very personal issue causing great distress to those alive. The manner in which a society respects its dead is a cornerstone of the civility of a society.
I thank the GMOA again for its scientific and non partisan approach.
