How can we believe those figures if media and out information outlets are censored? That's what I'm asking.

Depending on your "political viewpoint.". Professional bodies should not have political viewpoints. They are not the ones who decide whether its true or not. And in most of the countries data is released by a government department or an organisation to the media. Not only Venezuela. We cannot selectively pick this government has correct data and other have not. Media is just printing that figures in a newspaper or website.

Ideally yes. But it doesn't happen most of the time.
Therefore transparency of a country is what counts the most when evaluating the truthfulness of the said data.
It's just that most countries have a better track record than Venezuela when it comes to transparency. This fact seems to be true for all socialist and communist countries.

So going by this, we could deduce that North Korea is handling this situation the best. Which is obviously a ridiculous conclusion.
I would say we CAN determine the truthfulness and accuracy of data released by various governments based on their track record of being transparent in situations like this. Needless to say, if we were to make a list of countries based on their level of transparency, both North Korea and Venezuela won't fare well.

    Nalaka Godahewa involved in ranking??
    😂😂

He should have drafted more attractive election orientated statistics than this. Udayanga or Kabral can come up with another set of attractive statistics then. Like SL has dominated US economy or Tramp urged financial and anti corona consultations from our government etc.

Who is keeping the track records?

North Koreas data may be true because of an isolated country. We don't know. You are just referring to western media. North Korea is in a dictatorship we all know that. You Cannot compare NK with any other country. North Korea is not giving proper figures but Venezuela has it and updating systemically day by day. So why we cannot trust them. Because their political infrastructure not matches with your preferred one? USA also has secrets. Every country has secrets. But if they are updating world with acceptable facts we can trust them in a professional manner. Venezuela also a country where no one going to spend the holiday. So their numbers are acceptable. Westerners just like to see more deaths in countries have no proper "democracy"

There are well regarded studies available. Even if we disregard those studies because they could also be political, one could always use common sense and conventional wisdom.

North Koreas data may be true because of an isolated country. We don't know.
So, you'd rather believe a country which goes as far as to only allow foreign visitors to photograph and document what they consider acceptable? Like I said, a country that has absolutely no transparency cannot be trusted.

North Korea is in a dictatorship we all know that. You Cannot compare NK with any other country.
Not true. Current and past governments in Venezuela can be considered dictatorships to a certain extent.

North Korea is not giving proper figures but Venezuela has it and updating systemically day by day. So why we cannot trust them.
Because there are well documented cases of media censorship and outright lying by the government which is desperate to remain in power.

USA also has secrets. Every country has secrets.
Of course that's true. But we are not talking about black ops, are we? The USA and even Sri Lanka have way better track record as far as transparency is considered. Countries could have military secrets, but here we are talking about keeping things under wraps just so the government can hang on to power.

But if they are updating world with acceptable facts we can trust them in a professional manner.
Whether those "facts" are acceptable or not depends entirely on the credibility of the government or the organization which released those "facts".

I would also like to add that, the problem lies not in the fact whether their claim is true or not, but in the fact whether we can TRUST them or not.
They could be telling the truth, but there's now way we can trust them. They've long lost that credibility.

You are just seeing one side of the story. All your answers were. Credibility applies as long as a country agree with western powerhouses' political structure. Sri Lanka also labelled as in a dictatorship because government leaned to china.

How so? I've merely pointed out the fact that some governments are somewhat more trustworthy than others.

Credibility has a lot to do with admitting your own faults. And "Western Countries" more often than not don't shy away from admitting and dealing with their own problems. Look at how the US media are crucifying their own president. Can you imagine something like that happening in China?

Sri Lanka also labelled as in a dictatorship because government leaned to china.
There's nothing wrong with someone calling our country a dictatorship. It's their opinion and they have a right to express it. We can always point out errors in their arguments and carry out a meaningful conversation. It by no means is perfect. But it works.
The problem with "socialist" and "communist" countries like Venezuela and China is that this freedom to express one's opinion and carryout a meaningful discussion is very much hindered by the government.
By its very definition, the idea of "credibility" cannot even exist in such a society.
Don't compare China to Sri Lanka. We are much much better in terms of our democratic approach to problems. Even if we have many shortcomings, we can also be proud of that fact.

All of these are political opinions. And different political opinions between different people. But these types of personal political interests not should be considered when creating a report based on data available. We are discussing these COVID rankings ranked according to data given by corresponding governments after the analysis of data. And the issue is how come India in the middle of the table. Something wrong with the algorithm and scenarios they are using.
