If you are doing cybersecurity, focus on skills instead of degrees.

😊 There are lots of degree shops in Sri Lanka. Future employers may mainly focus on skills. Therefore plz try to get more hands on experience in the field of what you follow.

If you can learn and do something to the community using that knowledge, it will automatically create your future path. :)

OP Stop misleading the young generation.
    • Paper qualifications without skills is useless, but skills without paper qualifications will always hinder your future.
    • Certain companies / organizations cannot/will not even consider you if you do not hold a degree. (Example: United Nations - Source: personal experience)
    • Certain countries will not offer you a work visa/work permit if you do not hold a degree. (Example - Thailand - Source: personal experience)
    • Even if you somehow manage to find a company to hire you, they will probably try to lower your compensation based on the fact that you have no paper qualifications.
    • There are people who do well even without a degree, but that's just the 1%.

I am currently working remotely in a UK company as a security analyst. I said from my experience. Finding a job is easy if you can prove your skills. I have not even done a degree. You can't prove your skill by saying that you have done HTB AD. It is good for you to do a degree. But that doesn't solve everything.

If you know, post here how to do that. So someone can follow. Otherwise, what's the point of telling this?
I am not saying don't do degree. I am saying that it is wrong to think that everything is fine just because you got the degree. : )

You are advising people to focus on skills while throwing shade on universities. Basically implying that experience is far better than a degree. If someone takes your advice and drops out of a uni, are you gonna take care of that person ? A degree in IT + experience (actually being able to do shit) reduces the risk of unemployment by a huge percentage and while focussing on skills/experience and neglecting paper qualifications does not.
As I said before, one can find work in IT while not being a degree holder, but it greatly reduces your chances of long term success. (again, I said reduce, not eliminate)
