Without a doubt. Great injustice to students on many levels. Also this will distort A/L tuition scene further. Can we do something about this?
I think data paints a clear picture.
This proposal was tabled just as we were getting ready to leave the uni but we didn’t have data then. Latter batches, especially ENTC whom I remember was particularly vocal opposing this change, took it upon themselves to gather and crunch the numbers and it was clear that this revision is quite unnecessary. Anyway, I hope there’s enough ground to challenge this decision legally.
Z-score distribution and what proportion get their first choice (currently): 60% get it
Field selection GPA vs Z-score: fairly unremarkable correlation
Field selection GPA vs Z-score: fairly unremarkable correlation
Z-Score and FS GPA mapped: tail-enders (of Z-score) end up making the central bulk of GPA, toppers (Z) go to top (GPA) regardless.
1st Sem english marks vs Z-score: yet another indistinct correlation
