The other ways to increase your word power is mainly by reading, doing crossword puzzles, playing scrabble etc.

I used to note down every difficult word I found in day2day life in a diary.. which I did not use the diary for its intended purpose, but rather for writing useful words. in a part of the same diary I used to write down english song lyrics too.

Very nice way to improve vocabulary; you can write the meaning of each word in your own words; I mean, not copying. This is what I used to use in my studying; I wrote every definition in my own words rather than copying textbooks. great way to memorize and learn.
