I am not scared. Just want to make sure we give the correct messege to Lankan grads. Also what is your point ? Again mind your langauge my man. You are hurting yourself :)

Essential Career Advice for Young Software Engineers and Undergraduates

    1. Deeply Understand Core Areas of LLMs:

Understand transformers, reinforcement learning, prompt engineering, test time scaling, and other essential aspects of modern AI deeply.

Please please Don’t just rely on superficial use.

    2. Master the Mathematics Behind AI and ML:

With increasing automation, solid mathematical foundations (linear algebra, probability, statistics, calculus) will remain crucial for designing and evaluating systems.

    3. Practice Modern Ways to Acquire Knowledge Quickly:

Rapid learning methods (spaced repetition, active recall, summarization techniques) are key to keeping pace in a fast-moving AI field.

    4. Focus Heavily on Research Methodologies:

Sri Lanka’s software industry currently lacks high-quality research and development because it emphasizes quick deliverables and cheap labor. To shift this, actively learn structured research methodologies—such as hypothesis testing, experimental design, systematic literature reviews, and reproducibility, enabling genuine innovation and globally competitive R&D.

    5. Continuously Stay Updated:

Make active reading and following industry developments a habit by leveraging platforms like Twitter, Discord, Reddit, and LinkedIn.

    6. Don’t Rely Exclusively on Traditional Software Roles:

Pure traditional app and web development roles (e.g., iOS, Android, Full Stack) will significantly shrink due to automation. Instead, integrate AI and ML into your skill set, positioning yourself for more innovative, resilient careers.

agree there are zero reasons to blv in my background. But at least take a look at what I say.

I am not saying all SE jobs will be down and out .. but it won’t be any lucrative job anymore .

Meta openly mentioned it in an email , that they will try to hire ML and AI roles rather than pure SE.

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/esatde...in-today-as-tech-giants-increase-focus-on-ai/

Anyways my idea to young grads doing SE engineering is, do not try to become a good old day developer.

Of course it has limitations .. but this is the 4th Industrial Revolution .. also how we are seeing amazing results with reinforcement learning and there will be amazing agents soon.

    Supply>Demand
Technology in general replace people but AI make it superfast. And AI can reproduce themselves theoretically.

Nobody is replacing Software Engineers with AI. AI is just a tool.

I don't know how much experience you have in Enterprise Software Engineering but you don't sound like you have much.

I'm sorry if you think LLMs can replace good software engineers you are sorely mistaken. AI might replace devs but LLMs aren't good enough. AI giants like Yann Lecun believes LLMs aren't the path towards General AI.

It's funny how people assume just because LLMs got popular recently that this is a sudden discovery and it will exponentially improve in the next few years. The paper introducing the transformer was released in 2017 and it took 5 years for ChatGPT to show up and they got there by training it with almost all content in the internet.

Anyway for new grads (honestly anyone), cyber security focused on breaking LLMs might be good to learn at least as a hobby because all those startups and non developers using LLMs to write production code and use LLM agents without knowing what they are doing are going to create bug bounty gold mines.

My PhD was on self-supervised learning :)
