Why are Sri Lankan people so toxic and jealous when someone starts a business?

Hi everyone, I really need to share this and get your thoughts.

Yesterday, a friend of mine told me something truly shocking. This person literally admitted to me that they can't stand seeing others start a business and succeed. They said that whenever they see someone doing well, they get this intense feeling of jealousy and just want to bash them on social media, find their faults, and do whatever it takes to ruin their business. I was honestly shocked to hear someone admit that so openly!

It made me wonder if this is a widespread mindset in Sri Lanka. Even on Elakiri, I've noticed a lot of people who get triggered whenever someone posts about their business or success.

Have you guys encountered people with this kind of toxic mindset? Or have your friends ever said anything similar to you? Why is there so much jealousy and hate towards people who are just trying to build something? Let's talk about why this toxic, bitter mindset is so common.

It's a widespread phenomenon even in Europe. People hate to see someone going out of the traditional pathway and making good money. Mostly US Dubai like society doesn't have that mindset.

This is not an isolated phenomenon only related to Sri Lanka. You'll find people like this everywhere in the world.

To answer your question, I too have come across people like this. Usually I ignore what they say.

BTW are you from from the Sri Lanka subreddit? :P
